I just uploaded an image to this site (The quality of the image is not so great. ALL LINES ARE SOLID although some appear as dotted lines).

http://img344.imageshack.us/my.php?image=image0010qo.png

Does anyone know why A is the right answer? When I look at the 3D figure at the bottom of that page (the above link) I don't see any solid lines that end before hitting any edge of the square base. I thought the right answer is C eventhough C also doesn't seem to be quite right because it's missing solid lines that go to each corner of the square base. I don't think any of the 4 answer choices can be the top view.
Any ideas? Thanks so much in advance.

Thanks so much. That's what I thought. Kaplan's driving me nuts

How about this one:

what do you think?

I think the question has no right answer and the least incorrect answer is C

No mistake in this question, and A is the correct answer. I'll try to come back later with some drawing if possible.

A is correct and here is why. C depicts a figure that has 100% vertical rises or depressions. If you had that you would notice NO lines from the front view which is NOT the case.

Hi Doc. long time no see. Thanks for helping me with the application stuff. My 1st version was horrible. Without the help I received from you and others I couldn't do an ok job. I e-submitted my application in June and they received my trascripts last Monday. Looks like I am making progress.

Regarding the PAT question:
In my opinion, all of them are wrong. I think I said C is probably the least incorrect answer. The problem I have with A is: I see 4 tiny solid lines that don't go all the way to the 4 corners. In few minutes, I'll upload another JPEG to show the lines that, in my opinion, make no sense to me.

IMO, A is the correct answer. If C were the choice, you'd see a dotted line in the middle from the other views. Two possible problems would lead to answer C are drawn in the pic.

I vote for A. 🙂
A is the correct answer.

4 tiny solid lines that don't go all the way to the 4 corners, starts from where they are.

Note: if you click on the image it becomes bigger in size.

I still can't see those tiny solid lines (choice A) in the 3D figure.

check this diagram...can't make it any better (spent more than hour to draw).
attachment.php

it clearly shows the edge of the object.
you can easily see that answer is A.

Iqbal 🙂

Thanks a million. Now, I understand it. Kaplan's way of showing 3D objects is a bit confusing. The light grayish color in the 3D figure made it seem like we have longer lines going to the 4 corners. Now, I can understand why we have those tiny lines. Thanks a million again.
