I wish the barrons book had solutions for these so i could figure out the problems i dont get but all they have is answers at the back of the book. Someone please take a stab at these for me. hopefully streetwolf or mila will come to my aid 🙂

1. A bowl contains 7 blue and 3 red marbles. What is the probability that 2 marbles selected at random from this bowl without replacement are both red?
A 9/100
B 1/15
C 6/10
D 47/90
E 21/100

Answer= B

2. A gift of $180 is to be shared by Brett and Andrew in such a way that Andrew gets 25% more than Brett. How much does Brett get?
A $100
B $72
C $108
D $144
E $80
Answer= E

For 1. The firts draw the prob of getting a red is 3/10. For the second draw assuming one red is gone it is 2/9. So, 3/10 * 2/9 = 6/90 = 1/15

2.
180 = B + A
A = (1.25)B
180 = B +1.25B = 2.25 B
B = 180/2.25 = $80

The second problem:
Andrew = 1.25*Brett (Andrew gets 25% more than Brett)

Andrew + Brett = 180
1.25*Brett + Brett = 180 (since Andrew = 1.25 Brett)
2.25*Brett = 180

divide both sides by 2.25
Brett = 180/2.25
Brett = 80
good luck!
