"2 out of every 5 healthcare providers in the U.S. are now non-physicians"

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Fun fact is that the number of PA schools has increased from under 100 to over 300 within the past 30 years.

And in New Zealand?
20k doctors and 850 NPs registered (not all currently active).

They just approved, in principle, a regulatory board to start recognizing PAs.

We also have about 1500 "clinical nurse specialists" which are like NP-lite and require a physician to sign their prescriptions etc.

Everywhere is looking for ways to expand the clinical workforce for cheaper.

to be fair, he isn't wrong. The uninsured/underinsured are going to be at the mercy of whatever is available to them, and it isn't going to be the chair of the electrophysiology division when they get palpitations

Even insured patients in my medium-sized city in a state with NP independence have trouble finding an MD PCP.

One of the hospitals in town half the time I am consulted it’s an NP hospitalist.
