I am driving myself nuts because of the f*kin o-chem course. Been surfing D school websites for the past 5 hours.

anyway, 2 questions for you experienced people:

1) For the most part, do dental schools PREFER applicants who have ALREADY completed ALL prerequisites before application is made? Or do they really not care if one prerequisite is still in the process of being completed and no grade for it is available at the time of application?? ( Assuming the applicant has a fairly strong academic record. )

2) This ones kinda trivial, but: Do you guys ever call up admissions offices and ask them your questions? Are they good with talking to prospective students/applicants on the phone? Or is email the only way? its just that I find that for more complex & long-winded scenarios email doesnt work.

You probably won't like my answers but:

1) Yes, a strong grade in all pre-reqs is good. Try to take them all and do well in them b4 you apply.

2) This varies between schools. Some schools are impossible to get through to a live person (UCSF) and some are easy (UoP). The thing is that there isn't really too much to discuss. All dental schools have websites that clearly state their requirements. They have thousands of people calling mostly just trying to kiss a$$ to get accepted and they know that. Most legitamate questions can be answered from the ADEA guide or thier website.

I really dont think it matters if all the prereq's are completed as long as your going to have them finished and you can show that you have these classes scheduled.

I think these are great pre-dental questions.

1) You can have a few courses that are in process while you apply and the schools won't have your grades until after you're accepted. This is good for anyone who thinks that the course will be hard and that they will pass with a B- or C. 🙂

2) I call up admissions offices all the time. If I didn't call, i never would have gotten a secondary from UW (not like it mattered anyway, but I did get one step closer to interviewing) and I probably would have been passed on by NYU cause they told me that they'd pull out my file for re-review since I called. Each school is different in that some will talk to you while others will just shun you away, like UCSF.
