OK, I don't want to waste anybody's time so I will get straight to the point. I completed my DAT back in August. After the exam I took a week hiatus then college started back up and I just got engulfed with that. I am a senior and just realized that I don't want to essentially take a year off school and would love to start dental school.

What I've completed on AADSAS: Essentially everything except for my Personal Statement (rough draft) and my letters of recommendation.
Yes, yes I know. Letters of rec take forever to get sent; this is a fact I have to simply live with now.

So my two questions:

1) Is it REALISTICALLY possible to get this application done and turned in for the 2009 cycle before the deadlines?

2) On AADSAS once I get everything with a red asterisk completed can I send in my application? This would mean that I wouldn't have the letters of rec section completed but it doesn't have a red asterisk near it...

DAT score is competitive (I can say it is not like some of the amazing 23+ AA some of you have)
Decent volunteering

There's a thread on here about deadlines for d schools. Make sure you get those LORs in! If your AADSAS is completed and you're only missing LORs, then go ahead and submit it. Oh, and have a good reason why you applied so late.

Oh boy. Lets take a look at your questions:
1) As for this question, no one can say yes or no. It depends on you. Are you willing to sit down and finish the application? Can you put two days in and finish it, and send it off. The amount of work you put into it is upto you, but here is a more realistic question:

Will you get interview invites and acceptances when turning in your application this late?

That is something you need to weigh out and compare your GPA/DAT scores. Just note that it takes 3-4 weeks to verify transcripts and another 2-3 weeks for your applicaiton to be sent off.

2) I'm not entirely sure what areas you can make changes once you submit it. But I would not suggest doing this. Others can correct me on this, but this is what I know. If you hit submit, it will take some time for the original applicaiton to be sent off. Then if you make changes, it will take another 3-4 weeks for the revisions to be sent. For instance, I made changes to my applicaiton a week after I submitted it. It took another 3-4 weeeks for the "Revisions" to be sent.

Hope this helps.

I submitted AADSAS and paid on the Night (1am ish) of the 24th (friday). I checked AADSAS again on the 25th (saturday) at 7pm and my GPA was verified. My transcript had been received for a couple weeks before this time though. But my understanding was that it takes 3-4 weeks after you AADSAS submit to get your AADSAS GPA verified - this was cleary not the case as they did it in less than 1 business day for me.

Hey DentGuy,
Can you elaborate on why we need a reason? Have you heard of people being asked why at interviews?

What kind of reason is a good reason.. I just submitted my AADSAS..
If I am confronted, I will have to say the truth: school, extracurriculars, campus life, etc bogs me down and I am really busy. I wrote my DAT really late in the summer and wanted to take a break from it all... So I didn't start my application until mid-september.. I don't see why they would care too much... it is the applicant's loss afterall.

1) some applications are as late as february 1st (i think boston/buffalo?).. but at the same time some schools like UCSF already had their deadline (oct 15).
of course it is possible - ask yourself if you are willing.

2) Yeah, you can submit AADSAS without your LORs submitted. But you must tell AADSAS who your LORs will be, and ask them if they want to do it electronically or by paper. Urge them to do it electronically b/c it will be sent faster (read: immediately) to AADSAS. You should also send your transcript in ASAP, b/c it will take time for your school to process the request and send it to AADSAS. It's cheap anyways.

goodluck!

you can edit/ add LOR evaluators even after you submit AADSAS. I did that.

OK: it's late.

You want to basically give it a shot ...see if dschool is an option next year.

Here is my suggestion: DO NOT waste your $$ and apply to a billion schools. Instead apply ONLY to your state school(s) because this is where you have the highest chance of getting in (most state schools have in-state preference).

This way, you will have completed your application, can re-send it next year if necessary with minor changes(if you need to re-apply)...

Next, check to see if your school has a letter forwarding system in place...my school for instance has a system so even if I don't get in this cycle my letters from this application cycle will be saved on a private database to be used again if necessary. This way you don't have to keep asking/bugging professors every year and especially when you have graduated to write you a letter.

good luck.:luck:

Well, I appreciate all of the quick responses. Thanks!
