2 things I need to know about the GRE scores send process.

1. How long after I enter the scores in to the "test" section of PTCAS would it take for schools to receive the scores? I assume it would be instantaneous.

2. All that is required for schools to receive my GRE score is for me to enter them in to the "test" section of PTCAS correct? I don't have to do anything else right? I don't have to have ETS send the scores to each school on PTCAS do I?

You hand to send the scores throught ETS to each school...

Wow. Last cycle I did not do this. But I did send it through ETS to the 4 schools they allowed for free but I think some schools I applied to last cycle did not even get my GRE scores (the ones that were not of the 4 I entered when I took the test last cycle). Wow. I had no idea. I thought just putting the scores in PTCAS was enough. Jeez.

I read on here by some people that ETS was having problems sending scores to schools. I took the GRE Nov. 5 and one of the four schools that I sent the scores to on that day emailed me that very same day saying that they received my application and that "It is your responsibility to make sure all supporting documents (i.e. GRE scores) are received by PTCAS prior to December 1, 2012.". Will my scores be received by the school in time? and if not do you think the school will extend the deadline considering the problems I read ETS having about sending the scores to the schools?

PTCAS is now receiving scores from ETS so that is no longer an issue. ETS sends scores 5-10 days after you order them, and the GRE page on PTCAS will show when the scores are received.

REGARDING , ALWAYS check w/ each school and program. last cycle 2012 application--I did ETS send to the 4 free schools and did the PTCAS enter - believe I had to submit a code for the scores to actually go to PTCAS. I also check w/ schools -- before paying more to ETS---if they would accept the PTCAS verification of my GRE score. most said yes so I didn't pay anymore $$ to ETS. Didn't make sense if PTCAS had verified and ALL schools receive / have access to that score why pay more. it worked for me............but again CONTACT EACH school. I found the state universities were particular to having the ETS score and the private ones were OK w/ the PTCAS

Wait. I am so confused with the whole that.

Okay LittleWarrior you said:

"I also check w/ schools -- before paying more to ETS---if they would accept the PTCAS verification of my GRE score. most said yes so I didn't pay anymore $$ to ETS."

What is the PTCAS verification? is that just when you log in to PTCAS and go to the tests section and type in your scores? is that what the PTCAS verification is?

In that section PTCAS asks for your GRE Registration ID and it says:

"Please enter your GRE registration ID if you have taken the GRE. PTCAS will use your GRE registration ID to match your GRE scores to your application file. If you do not enter your GRE registration ID, PTCAS cannot send your GRE scores, if any, to your designated physical therapy schools. "

Why does it say this if we have to have ETS send the scores to the schools? (with the $25 fee for each school). Did I just waste my money sending my scores through ETS? Are you saying that you did not have to do the ETS $25 fee for each school GRE score send?

That was the whole point of this post. Please tell me that I did not just waste my money with ETS?

And exactly what are we checking with the schools? Are you saying even those that sent the scores through ETS (with the $25 fee for each school) should still check if the scores were sent.

Oh wait you say you check with schools BEFORE paying more to ETS so obviously you are saying that PTCAS gets the scores from ETS and sends it to schools but I guess if you want to be sure the scores are sent you can have ETS send them to the schools for the fee of $25 but chances are PTCAS will get the scores from ETS and send the scores to each designation so I probably did not have to pay ETS to send the scores. Wow . So I just wasted my money.

You know i remember you telling that story of you saving money from ETS in the other thread about PTCAS processing but I had no idea what you were talking about, plus when I made this thread, the first replier said that I had to send the scores through ETS. Well at least I can be sure the schools will get the scores as opposed to having to call each school to make sure PTCAS has sent the scores but chances are PTCAS would have sent the scores and I don't think saving the phone calls to the schools to check was worth $25 for each school. I wouldn't have mind checking with each school.

I am becoming aware that I will probably lose a lot of money with this application process. That is one thing applicants should be aware of and try to avoid.

Do you mean under that "status" part in the Test section of PTCAS? Right now mine says "Taken" under the status section. What does that mean? and what should it say to know that PTCAS has received my scores from ETS?

lol I just realized "Taken" means that I have taken the test. Okay my question is how will I know when PTCAS has received the scores from ETS?

What "GRE page"?

Under the Status Section, you will click GRE Scores. If you sent your scores through ETS with a PTCAS school specific code (as opposed to directly to the school), your scores will show up there. So for example, if you applied to University of Kentucky, it would list the school in red University of Kentucky. Below that it will list your test date with your scores for each respective section. If the scores by a particular school have not been received yet through ETS then it will not show up in this section. Hope that clears it up!

On your main PTCAS application, click "Official Tests" in the right hand column. This is the page I meant by "GRE page". When PTCAS receives a GRE score from ETS, it will list the name of the school in red on this page. When you see that, you will know that PTCAS received the score for that particular school.

Note that PTCAS will only list the school in red on this page if that school uses a "PTCAS GRE code". If the school does not use a "PTCAS GRE code", then the scores will go directly to the school and PTCAS will never receive the score. In that case, you can contact the school directly to confirm that they received your score. You can see which schools use a "PTCAS GRE code" at this link:

Hope that helps!

Ah thanks. Yesterday that "GRE page" was empty. Today it has some(4) schools and scores in it.

But only the 4 schools that i put when I took the GRE last are showing up there. Plus 2 out of those 4 schools I have not even put on my designations list yet even though i chose them when I took the GRE. Which leads me to believe that the only way PTCAS will get the scores is if I send them through ETS(like I did with those 4 during the test). So just putting the school on your designations is not enough despite what Litlwarrior08 said. Had I not put any of those 4 schools on the list when I took the test, would they have still shown up on that PTCAS "GRE page"?

For instance Duquesne University is on my list of PTCAS designations (and it has a PTCAS GRE code) but will it ever show up on the PTCAS "GRE page" if I do nothing else?

In the FAQ for tests on PTCAS it says:

"
Q: Do I really need to send my GRE scores to every program?

A: YES! Arrange for ETS to send your GRE scores to the correct GRE code for EVERY designated program. Some PT programs do not accept official GRE scores sent via PTCAS. If you don't send your scores to the right code, the program will not receive your official scores and may consider your file incomplete.
Q: Is there a single GRE code for PTCAS?

A: No. There is no GRE code for PTCAS. You must arrange for ETS to send your GRE codes to each of your designated programs.
"

So I guess I have to go through ETS for schools to receive my GRE scores. PTCAS does nothing about the GRE scores really. ETS gave us the 4 free designations when we took the GRE and we have to go through them (ETS) for the rest of the schools to receive our scores.

I guess Litlewarrior was only talking about saving money on the 4 free that were sent to PTCAS during the GRE test.

So is the fact that the schools are on that "GRE page" on PTCAS guarantee that the schools on that "GRE page" will receive my scores from PTCAS? or should I still check with those schools to see if that PTCAS verification of those 4 free schools is good enough for the school? I think this is where Litlewarrior meant that we should check with each school. Each of the schools on that PTCAS GRE page he's talking about.

That's right - you need to send scores through ETS for each individual school. That is the only way PTCAS will receive them. If your deadline is Dec 1, then you really need to do it soon.

If a score for a certain school has been received by PTCAS and shows up on your application, then the school has access to it and there is no need to confirm with the school directly (though some people still choose to confirm with the school just to make sure).

Littlewarrior chose to try to save money by asking some schools that use PTCAS GRE codes if it was ok that he/she did not send scores to those schools' PTCAS GRE codes through ETS. He/she figured that PTCAS had already received and confirmed GRE scores for other schools, and asked if that was enough. It sounds like some schools were ok with this, and littlewarrior was able to save a bit of money this way. However, technically, you are supposed to send scores through ETS for each school that you are applying to.

Hope that clarifies things.

Thanks. I understand now. The school that has the Dec. 1 deadline is one of the four that showed up on the PTCAS GRE page, so I believe that I'm good.

NGOZI From reading your post here I think you figured it out. PM me if not. AND OKRAMANGO answered this.

I applied LAST YEAR so I don't know what the current pages on PTCAS look like or ask for. LAST YEAR was the first yr to "marry" (my word) the ETS and PTCAS notification on GRE scores. Think I took advantage of a loop hole.

I was not talking about only saving money on the 4 free ones. here is a link to the admin manual www.apta.org-uploadedFiles-APTAorg-...ources-APTA-PTCAS-PTCAS_ProgramManual.pdf.url or google APTA PTCAS program manual. GRE info starts on page 34.......continue reading you can also go to the APTA site and type in the search box ptcas progam manual a list will pop up click on the PDF for 2012-13 manual.
Looks like there is a statement about NOT SHARING scores w/ other PTCAS schools as in the previous cycle. I believe I did mention that I applied LAST cycle.

I only paid the free 4 and the other 5 schools accepted the PTCAS verification/ posting or whatever they want to call it. I worked for me. some schools have a ptcas / ets code others don't.
BUT it worked for me last year. SO sorry for any confusion this may have caused anyone. Things just keep changing don't they Looop hole closed.

Yup it worked last year. believe loop hole is closed for this year and other schools can not see your score unless you have designated them to recieve the scores.
