I got the stats. But during this time I am not taking classes or working a medically related job. I am volunteering however and working (non-med). Is the bolded a death sentence?

EDIT: to clarify, I took the MCAT, didnt do well. So I didnt apply after I graduated. Took it again and did well. I decided to hold off an not to apply because it was late in the cycle.

no. Myself and many others didn't work a medical job and/or take classes and got in just fine.

My non medical job (I own a tech company) was the biggest talking point in all my interviews...I was never really asked about my medical related stuff..

thats reassuring. The only thing is, Im working a service level job.. Nothing unique like a tech company (damn!)

Yeah that definitely made me stand out but it doesn't matter what you do...find a way to tie that into why you'd be a good doctor. Could be janitor, chef, etc...doesn't matter. There's always a way to spin things.

sounds good. Will there not be a concern that, "this person has been out of the classroom too long to adjust to medschool."?

How long have you been out of class? If you are that worried then just take a few online courses, my policy is "proactive rather than reactive."
I graduated and did not apply that summer and decided to apply the following summer (this coming summer). So if I were to be accepted to medschool, there'd be 2 years between my undergrad and medschool.

I have a classmate who did absolutely nothing medically related for 5 years before getting in. You'll get in somewhere if your stats are good enough.
