Hey guys -

I'm currently a D3 on HPSP through the Army. Quick question for all of you w/ knowledge of how the 2-yr AEGD application process operates. Long story short, how does it work? What's the timetable look like? I've already emailed Ms. Flores a couple times over the last few weeks, but she has yet to get back to me. I know she is endlessly busy taking care of all of us, so I'm hesitant to push it with her. Although, I know I'll have to get a hold of her sooner or later...

So, any info you might provide will be appreciated. Thanks!

I am currently a D4 applying to OMFS, so what I say may not be exactly what you're looking for, but it should be very close.
Next summer when you begin you D4 year you will get an email from COL Manga (most likely, unless he changes positions), he is the director of Graduate Dental Education. In that email you will get all the information you need for applying to residencies. I decided to write to you because the paperwork is the same for all the residency programs except for the 1-year AEGD. You basically have a short form to fill out where you list your personal info, check which program you are applying for, and then rank your preference for the locations the program is offered at. You will need to submitt: 2 letters of recommendation (and a third is recommended), your official transcript, official copies of your NBDE score (now just a pass), a letter from your dean stating your class rank, and a letter of intent. The deadline this year is actually tomorrow - November 9th. So, I would assume that next year the deadline would be at a similar time in November.
Like I said, I'm not applying to that exact same program, but the 2-year AEGD was listed on the same sheet, so I think the application process is similar. After the deadline they hold telephonic interviews which will complete your application package. Everything is then submitted to the board for review. When the results are given I do not know.
I hope this was at least somewhat helpful. As far as I know all you can really do right now is wait until next summer. If you haven't yet done an externship with the Army at the locations for one of these programs, I would highly recommend it. Good luck!
