I need some advice on UCHSC. I am a third year and ready to start my audition rotation and one of my top three choices was UCHSC in Denver. I have already submitted my application for a senior elective and paid $125 for application fees. I went online last week and their website has changed. http://www.uchsc.edu/extern/

Now for osteopathic students you are required to pay $2000 for administration fees.😱 I have heard such wonderful things about anesthesiology at this place and they have four DO students in their program! I also heard if you rotate you were given an interview automatically(?).😕

Should I spend the money? What is another 2 grand if It helps me get a shot at a program I was really interested in?

Please hep with advice about the program, any recent director changes, and info would be great about my dilema. Thanks in advance!😉

I called and spoke with them and unfortunately they are not willing to waive the fee.

I'd suggest talking with the program coordinator about the rumors about the interview. (Often, the people who administer the student program don't handle the residents) I'd also ask some questions about the program to make certain that it is what you want. Talk with some of the current residents as well. If everything is as you expected, then I'd spend the money. You may be able to get your school to help kick-in or increase you fin aid. In the end, it is only another $2000.

Do you have to pay extra money for externships. I was thinking(and I know it is too early to be thinking for that) of doing some 4th rotations in ohio. does that mean I will have to pay extra money for each one,??

Optomistic - most programs do not have this high of a fee. I have paid 25-35 bucks for application processing. UCHSC is the highest I have seen so far. The fee only applies to osteopathic students who are non residents of Colorado (osteopathic students that are residents pay $1000).

Just an update! I have decided not to persue UCHSC because the fee is so much money and after recieving a call from the coordinator at home.

Thanks for all the perspective and best of luck to all of you in the future!😀

Optimistic-
You shouldn't have more than a minor administrative fee to rotate in Ohio. Akron General will even put you up with a roommate in the Raddison if you need a place to stay, last I heard. Metro, Cleveland Clinic, University in Cleveland, OSU, Summa in Akron, Riverside in Columbus are all places people I know rotated with little difficulty.
