Ok, since the new topic won't include Alkenes...Does that mean none of electrophilic addition reaction/electron withdrawing group...etc...topisc will be on the exam??! I am just confused.....how could they possibly remove alkene as a whole topic from the exam? (well i guess it's good that they are reducing Ochem topic since I usuallys screw up on it)

Well, that could do those reactions with benzene, but remember, there are no phenols either! 🙂 Aren't they reducing the number of hydrocarbon questions too?? Anyway, from everyone at my school who has taken the MCAT before, they all said that Orgo on the MCAT is easy, and once you do it there, you can forget it forever.

Hi, I think that the AAMC took out alkenes, but they since they didn't take out alkynes, that means that you have to know all the reactions with alkenes (except for benzene) in order to do the alkyne reaction. Are there any "sample" exams with this new format so that we can see how it looks? I was studying from the Kaplan monster review book (which supposedly is updated for the April 2003 test, but they have a chapter on alkenes AND alkynes) and the EK book doesn't even have a chapter for alkynes; they just teach you alkenes and they say to apply everything there for alkynes. Weird.

I think NMR is still on there, but from my understanding the organic section could possibly be reduced by one passage and the exams are usually not 50/50 correct? with the new addition of more genetics and some other bio stuff, I really doubt that the organic will be that tough. That will be one of the areas that I do not spend most time with just because it seems to be one of the least tested. Maybe someone whom has taken the MCAT multiple times can elaborate if this is incorrect or not.

Yeah, I was wondering about that word "speededness". I looked it up on dicitonary.com, and no matches! Hmm. . .😉
