BTW, does anybody know exactly what time we can submit. I think it'd be cool to be the first one or something. 😀

the aamc webpage says amcas will open June 3rd, 12:00 a.m., so the first submission can be at the stroke of midnight tonight... good luck everyone

I wonder if Vegas has odds on whether or not it's going to be delayed again before we can submit. 🙄

Hey I was looking at a thread that had a lot of the secondary questions on it .... how do you not repeat yourself on the secondary? Like alot of them ask for the most valuable volunteer experience etc, and this is stuff I covered in my PS...

well, even if you talk about the same experience you can talk about either a different instance or talk about it from a different angle.

eg maybe in the PS you talked generally. In the secondary you get very specific about a particular patient or a particular situation that had a deep effect on you. For example: your first night when you were completely disoriented, or the first patient you really knew that died, or the first time you really felt like you had helped or made a unique contribution, or describe the innovative things you brought to the position once you had been there a while, or maybe there was a particular patient you spent a long time working with, or who you made a strong connection with and you can describe the development of that relationship. There are always multiple angles for any one situation.

If you were a volunteer fulltime (or a camp counselor) (7 days a week) - basically a live-in volunteer - how many hours a week is that? it's not really 40 because you basically have little time to yourself - but putting 24/7 seems a little outlandish. I am considering putting something like 80...but would that sound weird?

to be honest I think they would understand what you meant if you just put down 24/7. was there no stated hour structure in your contract?

Is that Eastern Time? I'm Central, so could I submit at 11pm? That would only seem fair.....I'm such a dork.😀

I was wondering... if we submit the AMCAS tonight, and then after getting our MCAT scores, we want to add more schools, is that possible? Or what is the rule on this?

thanks

Yes, you can add more schools. You just have to recertify, etc. and pay them more money

thanks for the reply... that's what i thought.. but the AMCAS help says:

"To designate additional schools once you have submitted your application to AMCAS, you must re-enter your AMCAS application, select the additional schools you wish to designate, and re-certify and re-submit your application to AMCAS. You must re-certify and re-submit your application with the additionally designated schools by the stated deadlines of the schools you wish to add. Deadlines differ for different Program types. "

So we have to reenter all out courses and all that painstakingly boring stuff? that would suck...

and do we have to wait for the whole verification process again?

thanks!

I don't think so....but I'm not sure

As of an hour ago, it's still June 3rd. I know, I checked.😀

No, there was no contract. Just free-lance live-in volunteering.

make that 4.5 hours!!!

Lets have an AMCAS submission party, y'all. I'll bring the munchies, the party hats, and all the hoops we'll have to jump through (so we can practice).:hardy:  😀

Yeah, I'm just weird.😀 I've built up a lot of nervous energy since I started thinking about applying a few months ago. Now I'm just thankful that the process is actually beginning.

I dunno. I'd guess some time in July.

Hey guys. I have some AP credit and when I am filling out my AMCAS application, I am really not sure where to put it. I came into a college first, and they gave me some credits for my AP tests, but then I transferred to another university and they gave me different credits for my AP credit (they accept lower AP scores). I was a sophomore when I transferred, so do I enter my AP credits in my sophomore year?

I am really not sure what to do! Thanks in advance for all the help!

If you ask AMCAS, they will reply:

Enter your courses exactly as they appear on your transcript.

Yeah, they're really helpful.🙄

So, if your second set of AP credits appear on your transcript during your sophomore year, that's where I would put them. But you may want to call just to check. Or maybe someone else here has some insight. Sorry, but I really don't know. Just guessing, really.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking about that, but when I look on my transcript, there is a section that says Advance Placement. The credits are not under any certain semester, thats why I was curious.

If anybody knows that would be great. Also, does anybody know what grade we are supposed to put with our AP courses?

Thanks!

Wow! AMCAS is on time this year! But to be safe, I'm going to wait @ a week to make sure they ironed out all the kinks. Definitely don't wanna be an AMCAS guinea pig.

I'm a reapplicant & last year I submitted @ mid-June. 2ndaries started coming mid-July, only 1 week after they started transmitting info to schools.

As much as it sucks to reapply, I'm excited to start anew! Hope it goes smoothly for everyone!

Well maybe you should apply DO as well to increase your chances.
Hey Slickness,

Yeah, I did research DO as well as the Carribean option during the past month & have decided that it's not the way to go for me, weighing the pros/cons of my situation. How @ you?

**Btw, I didn't have AP credits, but I'm pretty sure they go w/ the 1st semester 1st year since I was told to do that for my exemptions. Don't worry @ entering the grade for it--they'll fill it in when they verify. If it's the same credit, I believe you only enter it once under the school that initially accepted them.

For real? Is it true that the first few apps might be victims of AMCAS "kinks?"

With regard to last few messages about listing course numbers on the AMCAS. I asked someone who successfully applied last year. She said that you just list the actual number. So if the course was BIO110 or whatever, you just put down "110." My hunch is that you will be listing out the course titles anyways on the application, and the AMCAS people should be able to use that to match it up with the grades your transcript. Then on the other hand, I don't think it would hurt to list the subject area with the number. Perhaps it means more work for us, but it might result in less ambiguity. If there's anyone else who'd be willing to share how you listed the courses, that'd be greatly appreciated.

Some people I talked to who "successfully applied" last year listed the whole thing (i.e. "BIO 110") and that worked great as well.

Someone at the other end sits and manually checks off each course on your form against your transcript. Imagine it was you. Could you interpret it without the BIO infront? Yes. But which would be quicker? Personally I added it to minimise the work they had to do at their end and make it as quick as possible.

I totally agree!!

that's a surprisingly good idea. i've been blindly wanting to submit on june 3rd, but the cons might outweigh the pros in this case. past medical school students have told me that submitting the first day versus a week later has almost no difference in the eyes of medical schools; everyone gets secondaries at almost the same time. some schools even lump everyone who applies in june together, without preference, on july 1st.

waiting an extra couple days is an increasingly advantageous decision in my book. i'm mulling it over seriously now.

good luck to everyone applying 🙂

Hey guys,
stressing out, here. What did everyone decide to do about AP credits? They show up on my transcript as "S". AMCAS wants you to put it exactly as it is on the transcript. So I put "S" under OT. But then it doesn't show up in the Supplemental Hours box as AP credit? I tried putting "G" under OT, but that didn't help, either. What should I do?

I did like AMCAS said and put my school down twice since I received two degrees (did a double major)

Does that mean I have to enter the course work twice for each entry of the school? Or just once for one of the entries?

Thanks

I put my AP credits in as G...what's S for?

Also, I know this double major , listing the school twice has been an issue. When I called AMCAS they told me to only list my school once and select 2 majors underneath that. so that's what I decided to do, but I know other people have listed their school twice. If you list your school twice, you only have to list your coursework once I believe was the consensus

OK I was getting ready to submit this piece in an hour... but maybe I will hold off as well.. I worked too hard on this to let AMCAS mess me up if that's the whole deal.... 🙄

wiill amcas wait until april 2003 mcat scores are out and then send apps to the med schools? will med schools see april 2003 scores if we submit the primary now?

should i resend a transcript after my schoool posts spring 2003 grades?

I have 30.5 semester units of AP credit. I also have 24 semester units of Community College Credit that i took during high school. That is a total of 54.5 units coming into my freshman year at Berkeley. So for ALL my AP credits, I state that that was freshman status (according to the directions given to us) and all my Community College i state it as high school status, however, my freshman year, i took 17 units, so that by the end, i was considered a junior?! please help me.

Satisfactory, I think. When you put your AP credits in as "G", does it show up as AP in the Supplemental Hours box under the GPA heading when you print it out?

okay, I've calmed down now. The instruction book says to put it exactly as it says on my transcript. On my transcript, it says "S", so I'm gonna put "S". It says AP next to the class anyways. They can figure it out.😛

Holy CRAP!!!! I just applied to medical school!!!!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

So now what?

take a deep breath, it's going to be a long ride

Man, I'm too psyched. I can't go to bed. Bring on those secondaries. Bring on the interviews. I'm ready. Let's get it on!!!!!

How can you say that with no exclamation points?!?!? You just applied to medical school!!! Ahhhhhh!......okay.....calm down soonerpillow....breath in....breath out....breath in..........brea.....Ahhhhhhhh!!!!

man, the april mcat didn't magically appear on the amcas print function... @!#% this godforsaken application

more waiting, more foreboding... maybe i should just hit the submit button and get this over with... aaaaaaarrrggghhhh what to do.............

+pissed+

🙄

I have a question....when it asks on AMCAS "have you applied to this medical school before"... that doesn't count BA/MD programs right? I applied to some BA/MD programs 5 years ago when I was a senior, but decided not to take that route.

But since I did apply, does that mean it counts ? It wasnt the traditional application per se

That's a good question. Maybe if you got rejected from these programs they would count.

I can't even remember which ones I applied to...ugh I'm gonna have to dig that stuff up. I know I got into 2 and then I didn't get into the others.

OK, I'm desparate for an answer b/c I'm sick of staring at AMCAS and want to submit this thing already so I just started another thread so hopefully people from last cycle will see it

Congrats to everyone who submitted!

I just submitted and though I requested transcript exemptions from 2 out of 4 of schools attended, one of those two popped in their email as transcipt (not received). Should I be concerned about this? It was a consortium school that shows up on my real school's transcipt. The other exemption was foreign study and did not show up in the email. Thanks.

Anyone know of any problems as of now or have any with submitting AMCAS? I'm still waiting to submit mine, just in case. Thanks!

Hopefully not. I just submitted.

Yeah, I submitted my requests many weeks ago and submitted the application last night and everything seems to be going fine.

The send you email confirmations of each transcript received, even before you submit. Although I have yet to recieve an email confirmation of submission.

Yeah, I didn't get an e-mail confirmation of submission either.
