2004 Bizarre Interview Stories Thread

At my UBuffalo interview, my second interviewer was talking to me about the school's "simulated patient" program and she mentioned how Kramer, in one Seinfeld episode volunteered for such a program and gave himself an exciting disease. A second or two later,
Interviewer: Ah, well, it's a good program.

ME: Yes, Seinfeld is one _funny_ program.

Interviewer (looking mildy unsettled): No, I meant the simulated patient program--it's a good one.

Me (lamely): Oh, yes, that too.

like I said, not bizarre, but mildly funny. 😉

One of the interviewees when I was at Duke wandered into the Admissions office about two hours later.

I guess he found a doctor to show him the way.

He was dressed like Dilbert (tie and all) but with a very dark tan.

While he was making his way in, he made a grand entrance and exclaimed "Oh Crap!" once he was in the office and looked around for a receptionist.

He walked towards the reception's desk and the last thing I heard him say was "Oh, my bad about ... " I was laughing too hard to hear the rest....

Coops

One of my interviewers who is notorious for being kind of eccentric in general turned off all the lights about 5 minutes into our interview. This would be right in the middle of me trying to answer an illegal question (ie one based on religion, gender etc). There was one small window in the room, but needless to say it was really odd to be in such a small dark room interviewing (w/ another man)....

I'm hard to rattle so unless he slid his hand on my thigh or something, I was fine.

Right at the end of my last interview at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College there was a fire drill. Then, about 150 people (including me and my interviewer) walked out and waited in this skybridge that connected the education building and the clinic. This made no sense to me - the bridge was definitely filled way over capacity above a busy street. Also, where the hell were we supposed to go if the fire got to the sky bridge? Anyway, the good news is that no one perished and I also got to chat with the dean for a good 15 minutes one-on-one. My interviewer wrote me a letter apologizing for it 😉

In a recent interview I mentioned that I had taken several years of Latin in college and 5 in high school. My interviewer then proceeded to ask all questions for the next 10 mins in PIG LATIN!!!!!!!!

I had an interview at med school that shall remain nameless. After 5 minutes, the interviewer asked if I had a significant other. The remaining 20 minutes were devoted to the details of my significant other even though I kept trying to steer the conversation to another topic.

Sounds like he/she was interested in you and scoping out the competition.

Actually I think some interviewers are big on finding out your personalities subtlely. Finding out how you treat your significant others and deal with conflicts totally show your personalities. Hope you didn't reveal too many bad things! 😉
