HOw did you know you were on hold at UVA? I completed in August and I haven't heard from them since.

for those who received one for gwu, did they send you an email?
 
I called GWu and Tulane to find out where my application was. I don't think most schools notify you, since the are continuing to review files.
 
GWU sends you a yellow postcard stating that they have reviewed your file and placed it on hold.

I called UVA and GWU and asked about my status. That really is the only way to know if you are on hold since many schools do not send a letter or email stating this.

as soon as i ask, i get the nice little letter from gwu.
 
I am adding SUNY- Upstate and GW.

I am also wondering what the hold means. I have great GPA and expereinces (personal, health and work), but not such a great MCAT score. I was took the test in August.

Do you think that HOLD means that you might be capable of the work, but have something that works against you? However, they don't want to reject you since you might add to the diversity of the class.

I was told by the admissions office at UVA that hold means they reviewed your application and did not want to immediately reject. They do want to see some more applications before returning to yours to make the decision to interview. My guess is that if the next group of new applications are better than yours, it is over. If, however, they feel as though you are competitive as compared to the new group of apps, you get an invite.

That is my take on it. I have become comfortable with just simply raising my arms in the air and not questioning this med school application process. I have no idea what it takes sometimes. 😎

does anyone have any idea whether or not this application cycle is more difficult than previous years?? it seems like many schools are overwhelmed with a lot more apps than they are used to receiving. also... everyone always says to apply early... well, i did, but now i am on hold at a lot of places pre- and post-interview... so now i feel like i am getting passed up by everyone else... i feel like i might as well have applied a little later???
 
guess GW sent out their batch list the other day- got the hold list today as well

I got this really heartfelt (or seemingly heartfelt) letter from GWU that is a whole page long!! It made me feel their pain, and when coupled with mine from being waitlisted, the pain was almost unbearable. I heard some got a postcard. What do the differences mean?!? (Just hopeful, you know?)

I wouldn't really think letter or postcard makes a difference. Actually, I will be surprised if they send two different types of communication. I am on HOLD, as well. But, hey it is only one school and it is pretty soon... So, don't think any negative thoughs just yet.
 
Got put on hold at MSU pre-secondary (in state too...31P, 3.75) just got the hold letter from GW...

I got a full length letter saying the people in my group will be evaluated again in february. Then they asked me to inform them if I got into the school of my choice. I guess adding them in a second round of applications was a little transparent.🙄

GW is not the best med school in the world. Maybe they wouldn't expect you to go there, so they nixed you. Maybe if you wrote a letter of interest that would get the ball rolling.
I know that I got a pre-interview hold from them and there is nothing numerical on my app. that isn't well above the 90th percentile. And I have years of volunteer work in a hospital and third world country. Oh well, it's a real crapshoot.

P.S. No my personal statement is not horrible, I have several interviews at other schools, including one top ten institution.
 
I asked University of Vermont if my application is complete and this is the email response that I got.

"Your file is complete and you are in our pool of applicants from where
an interview may be extended. This does not guarantee and interview,
however."

do you guys think that this is a HOLD?

I think you should call and schedule an interview...it's always good to take the bull by the horns. It's like when you're in a relatitionship, and the other person is kind of wishy-washy, it's up to you to demonstrate your speed on the base paths and use your hustle to turn a single into a double.

If you don't get my sports analogies, I can rephrase, but you probably see where I'm going with this...they're being vague, so you should just hear whatever you want to.
