I still haven't received the email from MSSM (I even checked in my spam box!). Has anyone else not heard from them or am I the only one?? 🙁

They don't screen so their email probably just got bounced back from your email server. It happened to me.

Also, does anyone know if:
A) MSSM wants us to go ahead and forward LOR's
B) If so, to what address?

leiface said:
Anybody hear from Southern Illinois, Finch, or University of Missouri Columbia yet?

according to mu's admissions secretary, secondaries will be sent around aug. 7.

Yeah, I haven't gotten it either

Yeah, I am pretty sure it got rejected by the server.

I havent got the email but I followed the link posted by Thom and logged in. Just in case anyone was wondering, I called earlier and they do not screen. So if you havent recieved teh email, it is likely due to your email server rejecting it for having thousands of names in the "To" category.

Anyone else still not receive Case? I was processed June 14th and still haven't gotten it. I wonder if they're trying to stagger applications, but it seems so late for a school that doesn't screen.

I haven't gotten it yet either and I was processed 6/21. I'm hoping they're trying to stagger - i'm applying MSTP and my last name is a 'Z' so i'm hoping those are the factors holding me up....i also tried their password retreival and got nothing 😕

I called HMS. They said that the secondary link will be sent out via snail mail "later this month." I love that their website says that a "totally redesigned admissions website will be launched in July." (twiddles thumbs)

🙂

Awesome! Thanks cerb 👍

I got a letter from SIU last week, but the date on the letter was July 16th. (Stupid school forwarding service).

Right? this is just nuts.. umm.it's august..they need to launch their site already. blah blah blah..hurry up and wait... 😴

MSSM is really pissing me off. I have everything ready to go, and when I try to submit the essay portion of my secondary, it gives me "error executing database query." I really want to be done with this one. Has anyone else experienced any problems?

Thanks!

Treg

I called and they said that it is a mistake on their part. They said that the program is counting characters instead of wordes. They are hoping that it will be fixed on thursday when the tech support comes.

What's the MSSM essay prompt and directions?

What makes you special, someone who will add to the Mount Sinai community? (250 words or less)

Optional-Indicate the reasons for your specific interest in Mount Sinai. (200 words or less)

I am within their word limit, but it will only save my essays if they are a sentence or two....I think I will call them.

Also, FYI, it is $105 by credit card. Ouch!

Hmmm... My online application says the given lengths are 'suggested' .... Am I the only one?

Treg,

Answer to your issue... Try again on Thursday.

Jason

Ok, I called MSSM. Since this is the first time that they are going completely online, they have a technical glitch. The essay boxes are taking around 500 characters with spaces as the limit. So they said that we can shorten things and submit or wait until the end of the week (Thursday at the earliest, since this is when the tech guys gets back). There will be no difference if we submit now or a week from now, since the adcom is only starting to meet at the end of the month.

Also, since this is the first time they are completely online, they are sending out the secondary in batches. I was able to login via the link a few posts back but I have not actually received the email.

You guys owe me--I used my cell phone from Canada! 🙂D)

Thanks.

Behold the power of cell phones! I don't have an actual landline phone. Anyone in the same boat?

Does anyone else find their md admissions flash page really annoying? It was a novelty the first time but now it just irritates me. Grrrr....

I got a letter stating that they received my AMCAS and are in the process of reviewing my application, it said nothing about secondaries, did yours?

Yeah, i was thinking the same thing earlier waiting for the "Enter" to appear 🙄

I got both a letter saying they received my AMCAS and a 2nd letter with the secondary, which was dated the day after first letter. The only thing I can think of is that they are hitting the central/southern kids before hitting the northern cities (however, i do not know where romeoville is). You might want to call Erin in the Admissions Office and ask if you have been sent a secondary.

Nice, that might be the case. I am in the southwest suburbs of Chicago so it's possible. Also your stats might have gotten you automatic invite to complete their secondary, and I don't think mine would necessarily. I don't know if anyone else has gotten the SIU secondary, but please keep us up to date!

I just got the USC (So Cal) secondary by email...and Tufts by snailmail...

okay i finally recieved my usc secondary... why are all the cali school secondaries so long... arg... okay, just venting..

WOOHOOO SC just came, there are a few essays

Just Got Keck secondary (USC), very short and easy 🙂

They ask if you have any special reason to go there. It then explains that mostly likely you do not, and that they understand you are applying to a large number of schools to maximize chances of acceptance, and as such you do not need to go research their school and BS an answer to their question.

If only all schools had the Tufts mentality, it would save so much BS.

hi supadupadoc, those are the essays for MD only (plus some basic bio/class data)

1a. Have you applied to any medical school in the past? Yes or No
1b. Have you applied to the Keck School of Medicine in the past? Yes or No
2. Please briefly explain your interest in the Keck School of Medicine.
3. Briefly describe any unique qualities and abilities you possess which would contribute to: (A) the educational environment and (B) the diversity of the entering class.
4. Please provide a summary of your most relevant and recent leadership experiences.
5. Briefly describe your most relevant extra-curricular activities (volunteer, research, serving disadvantaged or underserved populations, etc?) related to your interest in medicine.
6. Please provide a copy of the personal statement that you submitted on your AMCAS application.

Good luck to all

I can't log onto the MSSM secondary...it tells me my info is incorrect and to try entering it again. Is it this way for anyone else? My best guess is that they allow access in waves too, but it would be nice to see if other people are in the same boat.

does anyone know if USC's secondary is an automatic one or a screened one? thx

I'm assuming that wash U doesn't screen, correct?

Quick question...so I have my email account linked to my cell phone, so whenever i get an email, it sends the message to my celly. So this morning I get a text message on my phone, from UMICH, saying

"Please read the document" and has a file "file.pif" attached to it. But when i go to my email to see the actual message, there is NO such email!! Freaking weird....has anyone else gotten a similar email or heard of "file.pif" ?

I know what a PIF file is, but why would Umich want to send one?

Also, worms and viruses have been known to hide as pif files!!

Thanks

I had the same problem yesterday morning when I first got the email from them. But it seemed to work in the evening. Good luck!
