Nope, I received the big goose-egg...nada, no interview. I received the rejection email last Tuesday, November 21. There was an attachment to the email which indicated the averages for those interviewed were: 3.5 overall, 3.46 science, 18.75 for the academic portion of the DAT, and 18.70 for the PAT. Also, there were 142 interviews this year.

Not sure if this helps, but I am close friends with 6 guys who have graduated from there over the past 5 years. Please do not shoot the messenger on this one...but according to them, there has been a push to increase the number of females in the class since the new dean took over 2 years ago. I am strictly throwing that out there as additional info. But, the class of 2008 had 40 males and 22 females. The class of 2009 has 31 males/31 females. Since historically, more males apply for spots than females, this can be "bad" if you are a guy, "good" if you are a gal. As I stated earlier, just passing on info I have heard "through the grapevine".

I do know that MCG only had 60 available spots this year instead of 62 as two other spots were filled based on some random cases from the previous application cycle.

Personally, I am anxious to see the final numbers this year as I am a dude 🙂 Maybe it will make me feel better for getting that wonderful rejection email.

In case you were wondering, my numbers were 3.4 overall, 3.8 science, 18/18. I am a non-traditional applicant as I received my BA about 15 years ago. No clue how I did not get interviewed.

If you actually had an interview, it could be a while before you hear anything about a rejection. From what I understand, acceptance letters will begin to be sent out Dec 1. Typically, that will be about 70-75 acceptances. Of course, some will wind up going to other schools so people will move up in the pecking order.

If you got an interview, I would not worry so much as you have a pretty good shot. As far as what they are looking for in particular, I have no clue. As I said in an earlier post, I was pretty confident in receiving an interview but I got nada. And this is after having gone down to MCG 3 separate times over the past 9 months to meet with various faculty and the admissions staff to go over my application. I filled out my application in June, went down to MCG in late June, and had one of the Admin Staff go over it with me for about 1.5 hrs to make sure everything was in order before submitting. And I got nuttin' .

So, in a couple of months, I will make yet another trip to MCG to meet with Dr. Haynes to see what the deal is/was.

Interviews are a done deal now so hopefully you were in the 140+ folks that received one and congrats on that!

Thanks for the info. Keep contact with them about what more you can do and with your stats, I'm sure you will get in. I applied last year, didn't get in and called immedietely to find out what I should do to increase my chances. They gave me a list of things to do and I kept in contact to let them know how I was doing with each thing they told me to do. I still am concerned about being accepted, but I got an interview so I know that what I did helped. Keep being persistent, Im sure you'll get in.

i called MCG this morning. they said they have already mailed the acceptance letters. but could not tell me over the phone whether i got accepted or not. the letters were sent by registered mail, will have to sign for it. good luck to all.

no, they did not say when they sent the letters, but i assume that the letters were sent today because my friend from MCG told me that the adcom had meetings tuesday and yesterday. also, in the e-mail that they sent a few weeks ago, they said they'll try to send the letters shorty after dec. 1st.
since the letters are sent registered mail, you have to sign for it. if you are not home, then the postman will leave a note and you'll have to go the post office to pick it up. i guess MCG just wants to make sure that you get the letter. this is what my friend did last year. she wasn't home when the letter came. just have to wait few more days.

called them again. you are right, they haven't sent the letters yet. they said they'll send them in about a week. but i talked to a different person today. but why would they say the first time that letters were sent? 😕 i don't get it.

The stress is killing me!! Today my sister IMed me saying "I got accepted to your school today!" and I of course missread it...

That stinks that I'm away at school, and I'm sure no one will be at my house when/if the postman comes by.

no its true...i just got one....i dont understand..i had above avg stats for the people who interviewed...i'm a male though..go figure

yeah, my stats are pretty good (i think) 21/21 dat and 3.8 gpa and i had an interview the very first week. i won't have my degree by august but when i asked my interviewers and the dean about it they all said that overall my appl. looked good so it wouldn't be a problem... guess it was.

ya'll don't need to get worked up about it all yet. like i said, i'm applying as a third year and i don't think anyone at MCG realized that until i went in for my interview. i'm guessing that when your appl. first gets to MCG they just look at your stats and if they're good they send an invite for an interview and then once you've gone to the school then they actually look at the details on your appl. i thinks that how i got an interview so quickly as well as a rejection letter so quickly.

I have a close friend that is a 2nd year at MCG that did not get his acceptance letter until mid-Jan. Hopefully that helps....

For those of you that interviewed and just got the awesome rejection email...really sorry to hear the news and try to keep your head up. I did not even get an interview and my stats were fairly close to the stats of those interviewed.

Personally, I can understand getting a rejection email if I did not get an interview. But, to receive a rejection email after having interviewed, I just don't agree with that.

Hey Berry...are you going to make an appt to meet with someone and see how you can improve your app? I bet if you apply next year, you are a shoe in. Most folks I know have had to apply at least twice to get in there.

Heads up everyone and try to stay positive...it will all work out.

yeah. Merry Christmas love, MCG. and in addition to the kick in the balls that was my rejection to MCG today, I don't have interviews anywhere else because my AADSAS would be considered "late"... so I too am trying to come up with a job for after graduation.

has anyone been able to contact them to schedule a "rejection meeting" in january...i have left a message..but nothing....also about the male thing...if 50 percent that get accepted are 2nd time applicants then you only have 30 spots open...now if they are going to accept half females or more out of the 30 that are 1st time applicants...then that means that between 10-15 1st year aplicants that are guys will get accepted...or less.....hmmq...oh well...always next year

Just so you all don't feel too bad the competition at MCG this year was fierce. MCG makes an effort to interview as many of their applicants as they can accomodate. And of all those interviewees the average was a 3.5 GPA and 19 DAT. Think about that. If you had a 3.5 and 19 DAT you were just average. Pretty crazy.

MCG has to sort through all those great applicants and pick 60 of the best. Not an easy task. The competition has been steadily increasing over the last few years. When I got in 3 years ago I had friends with a 3.2 and 19DAT who weren't accepted. This year they may not have even gotten an interview. Unless you are an academic rock star you do NOT want to place all your chips on MCG right now.

I have something else I want to say but don't want to come across as a jerk. So please take this in the nicest way possible.

But unless you are a minority, those of you applying with a sub 3.0 are pretty much wasting your time and money. I believe the official cutoff is a 2.8 but I have NEVER heard of anyone getting in here with a GPA even close to that low. That doesn't mean there is no hope for you; there are plenty of schools who will consider you. MCG isn't likely to be one of them.

I just scheduled a meeting with Dr. Haynes in Jan. Trust me, I have a LOAD of questions for her. And Yosemite...don't worry at all about being a jerk, you are being totally honest which I wish the Admissions Committee would be. So, I for one appreciate your comments and any other insight you may have.

Personally, I feel I may be wasting my time as I have already travelled to Augusta twice before and got the "no problem with you getting an interview" story. I have everything that MCG has told ME they were looking for...good grades, good DAT, prior military officer, older student (34), software architect at the CDC, steller recs.....and I got the shaft, not even an interview. Apparently, the Ad Comm has told many applicants the same story....I have now come to the conclusion that it is an easy $30 for them to say that stuff.

I have always wondered why MCG has a minimum posted of a 2.8 GPA and 14 on the DAT if you have no shot in hey of getting in with those numbers.

Ok...nuff venting from me. All the best to those still in the running....I cannot wait to see the final stats for people accepted.

As for those who are reapplying next year, my advice is to apply to more than one school. It doesn't hurt to keep your options open. i'm pretty sure crest was accepted to howard.......does anyone know if mcg has any graduate schools there...i looked on their website, but don't quite understand what would be the best thing to take, b.c. i don't want a phd and it looks like that's all they have...it looks like i might be stuck in augusta for a year b.c. i had planned to get in...by the way, i have heard some people already have been accepted
