I've been complete for some time and haven't gotten it either.

I got the "status changed" email about 5 hours after I logged in and noticed my status had changed. All my status says is 'yeah, you're complete and we'll review you in the order you were complete'.

I think the vague emails come after your file is reviewed and you are given a "priority score". I really really like VCU and I'm hoping for a good message later! 😀

How long after you guys submitted were granted "complete" status?


It's been about a week for me and I know my letters of rec should have already been there.

took about 10 days for me

i submitted everything 7/23, confirmed complete 8/9, hope that helps!
 
Took about 2.5 weeks from when my LOR people said they sent my letters. So probably about 10 business days.

That's right. You don't get the vague email until the committee has finished reviewing your application. Everyone gets that email regardless if they send you an interview invite a few days later.

About how much longer until I should hear something concerning my status?

I have yet to receieve the dismal email everyone is referring to, but I hope my app didn't just mistakingly fall into the trash :scared:
 
Here's another bit of data to the VCU puzzle...I never got one of those "priority level" emails. My status was complete for maybe 1-1.5 weeks and I wasn't sure what was going on. This morning I got the status update email and I logged in to find that I was invited for an interview. So, at least in my case, I never got anything in between "file complete" and "interview invite." Don't mean to be a downer or anything, just thought it might be good info.
 
WTF!!!! I just got my status, and they decided not to even send me a secondary. Id understand not wanting to send me a secondary if they knew ALL my info, but they DO NOT even have my August Scores, thats BS!!! I didnt take the August MCAT for fun, I took it so I could be judged on those scores. GRRRRR. What the hell should I do has this happened to anyone else???

It happened to a classmate of mine and she called them and explained the situation. In her case, they decided to wait until her scores came out because she had clinical experience and the other stuff that they are looking for in an applicant. You could try calling them too. Good luck!
 
Try a resubmission.... call and explain that your scores for the MCAT are coming... its probably just an oversight.

I was complete August 3rd and got the vague e-mail on August 15th. Hope that helps.
 
was anyone complete around august 25th? thats when i was complete and still havent heard nothin!

I also was complete on August 3rd, received the vague email on the 15th, and the invitation to interview today.

I was complete 7/28.

I received the update:
The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are able to grant an interview you will be notified by e-mail.

Anyone know what the VCU interview day schedule is like? I couldn't find anything on their website about it except a question or two in the FAQ.
 
There's information on the day's events when you login to the applicant status site. If you've set up an interview date, the little blurb explains the order of the day.

Let's use this thread to centralize all things VCU (i.e. interviews, waitlist, blah blah blah). Too bad the thread title can't be changed to 2006 VCU central or something like that... 🙁

Good idea. There have been so many different VCU threads, so it's good to have a centralized thread.
 
So are you guys all going to stay with student hosts?
 
Is anyone else interviewing with VCU the week of 9/12? I have my interview scheduled for Wed 9/14 (8:30am! Yikes). I know a few people who go there, but will be staying in a hotel the night before (I could drive from C'ville the same day, but I'd have to be up really early). Anyway, once it's all said and done I'll be sure to let you guys know how it went as well as writing an account in the interview experiences thread.
 
My brother actually lives outside of washington, DC, so I'm going to fly into Baltimore and stay with him. It's about a 2.5-3 hour drive to VCU in the rush-hour traffic, but it's a nice bed, a free meal or two, and convenient to a cheaper airport for me.
 
Anybody know what Complete date we're up to on getting interviews? I saw it was up to around Aug 25, wondering if it had advanced any farther.

I was gonna grab the 9/13 interview slot but didn't feel like I could get myself together (i.e. plane tickets, car rental, place to crash, place to stash my dog, etc) in time. Good luck!

for oos applicants, how long does it usually take to recieve invite/rejection after complete notification??
 
jtank, that depends on where you are in the stack, I think. I'm oos, complete late August, interview invite first week in September. Be patient. You'll get either a vague status change notice or an invite soon.

I am oos and if I had to take a gander I would say about 10 days business days excluding labor day ofcourse 😀 (this was for my file)

The thing about VCU/MCV is that they interview lots of applicants so if you get a secondary chances are good that you will get an interview too.
 
I'm OOS complete on 8/16. Got the complete e-mail and have heard absolutely nothing from them since. At one point I thought I'd be getting this so called vague email - never saw it. Then I thought, well maybe they are taking care of instate first. Wrong again. Now I'm more like, I hope I have the time, money, and will to go to their interview if I get one. Either way, its only a matter of time before some decision comes my way, and I'm not rushing it anymore.

what year is this data from? the data previously posted on SDN shows for MCV in 2004:

Total: 4,406 670 384 184
In-state: 804 337 194 104
Out-of-state: 3,602 333 190 80
 
Yeah, the numbers are for 2003, should have made that clear. They came from US News (I'm old school and got a hard-copy so the figures are a year out of date). Two UVa 4th years on SDN late at night instead of partying? (Actually I just got back from a party a bit ago . . . I'm not that lame, just a bit of an insomniac).

Hey Guys, I just interviewed at MCV today and I was pretty impressed (more so than I thought I would be). I suppose that's part of the point. P.S. Something I failed to mention was at the end of my interview when I was being walked back to the admissions office my interviewer (MSIV) asked if I was familiar with studentdoctor, that it's this great website with all this info, etc. How great is that?
 
For those of you who have already interviewed and those about to interview, what airline did you fly into Richmond? What site did you find had the lowest fares? And what hotel are you staying in?

I want to make my reservations today for Oct. 3.

Try Airtran.com into Richmond International Airport. Airtran is supposed to be really cheap.

I interviewed at VCU yesterday (9/15). My impressions are mostly similar to Dakota's.

The trouble with these interview days, though, is that a lot one's impressions of a school can come from their impressions of the tour guides and other faculty/staff. My interviewer was great (CT surgeon emeritus), the morning presentations were great; the two M2 tour guides were friendly, but I certainly didn't see in them the same enthusiasm that I saw at EVMS. I have no way of knowing whether that's the nature of the school, or whether my tour guides were just tired or something.

They described the academic atmosphere as "not non-competitive, but more like 'friendly competitive.'" I take this to mean that no one's running around sabotaging cadavers or passing around deliberately incorrect information. FWIW, I tend to enjoy and thrive in this kind of "friendly competitive" atmosphere. I asked them about nontraditional students, and neither of them could give me a thorough answer. However, I did see on one of their Match Day photo pages that a number of M4s had had babies while they were in med school. I take this to mean that either my tour guides were not particularly close with all of the class, or that the class is not incredibly tight-knit. This isn't a great or horrible thing, just something to note.

Overall, though, I definitely liked the school, and I'm starting to see how each school is different and how national rankings don't necessarily mean that one school is better for an individual than another. If I'm lucky enough to have multiple acceptance offers, I think the decision process is going to be difficult.
