what time does the interview day end?

I am trying to book a train back to NJ and was wondering if I could make the 3:40 train back? The next out after that is at 6:00pm.

Anyone know who I should speak with when I call. The guy I talked to this morning just seemed like he didn't really know for sure, but he told me they were full til february.

Ask to speak with Shenia Tyler (or was it Taylor?). Just ask for her by her first name. She's Dr. H's secretary so she is pretty knowledgeable. I think Kenny is kinda new so he doesn't know his way just yet. 🙂

I got the scoop on acceptances/waitlist/rejections for those that interviewed prior to the OCT accecptances. For those that are put "on hold for possible acceptance," they will get a status update anytime before the Oct. 15th deadline. For those that are accepted, they will not receive a status update until around the 15th, either a little before or a little after (since the 15th is a saturday this year). So I guess what I am trying to say is that we should pray for no further status updates, besides for the interview survey, until it gets closer to the 15th. 😀

I scheduled my interview for a little bit later. . . Halloween! I hope the interviewers are in a festive mood. I wanted to post because I'm new to the site and am really pleased to see that if I get in to VCU, it looks like I'll be going with some great people! Cheers to all, and good luck.

If you don't already have comfortable shoes, invest in some! You will be doing a considerable amount of walking. One of my fellow interviewees wore new shoes and was in pain and bleeding by the time we were through with our tour. Poor thing! She was a very sweet girl... well come to think of it, all of the interviewees were very pleasant... Good luck! 🙂

I know this isn't something preached on these forums often, and I've had to learn it myself, but instead of calling them, just be patient. I was complete on 08/16 and got my invite on 09/21... two days before my first interview elsewhere. If you have any faith in the strength of your application, it will yield you an interview. Let it speak, and keep your mouth shut. I think they are doing their job well. At least its not like other schools that I've applied to that I've been complete for over two months and don't even know if they've read my secondary at all. I decided not to call them either, but I'm confident that the first correspondance I get will be them calling/emailing me about an interview.

You're still far earlier than most. In fact, I went to an informational meeting last night at our local AED chapter given by a state med school. Believe it or not, the medical school advisor at our institution has not even made a single composite letter yet, however over 70 students attended this meeting interested in the Fall 2006 class. I went the other route with this school (thank God) and opted for three letters of recommendation, and just got notice yesterday that I have an interview with them.

Lots of words up there... take home story, just chill.

First of all I dont quite understand why VCU would update those who are not getting in on the 15th prior to the 15th... it makes sense that everyone would get the "committee has reviewed your file, youre on hold" notice before the 15th if you interviewed early enough. Woohoo, we're back in business! No more slow SDN! (I hope?)

Anyway, I got the status update yesterday as well. My file is now "on hold pending further action." I'm with chattkis on this; Dr. Heldberg said that everyone would get that hold status unless they're rejected, in which case they'd get a rejection notice. But I guess we'll see soon enough what's going on, since 10/15 is just over a week away!

My understanding was that they were a little behind in reviewing applicants after the interview. Since you (Shyrem) interviewed last week and got the status updated this week, hopefully they have caught up or close to catching up. My interview group was huge though so we'll see how soon they can get to everyone.

Either they ran behind interviewing, or just ran behind updating. I interviewed 9/15, and both ShyRem and I were updated this week. I doubt they went through three weeks' worth of applicants all at once, but maybe they've had to play catch up one way or another.

Yeah thats kinda weird - werent you like one of the first set to get interviewed. Did they not start interviewing around the week of 9/12 or was it prior (rhethorical question). Anyway what ever the case I know they will try to expedite the process they have been doing good on time so far.

I don't think I was there during the first week, but it was pretty close. My guess is that they fell behind in paperwork mostly. Either way, that doesn't change the fact that 10/15 is coming soon and that I'm getting really nervous. 😛

I interviewed the week of 9/19 and I wasn't reviewed until this past Monday so they definitely fell behind. I think they sent out those hold updates all at once b/c I got mine at the same time as ShyRem and blee.

I am not holding my breath for the 17th though. 20 acceptances is rough, I tell ya!

Also, perhaps your interviewer wasn't available for some reason for the committee reviews. They did say that if your interviewer was not available to be your cheerleader, your file will not be reviewed that week. I interviewed on 9/26. Then again, did anyone get a status update before this week putting you on hold? I'm just happy I'm not rejected post-interview (yet).

I hear ya about the 17th, jj08... but I'd still love to be one of those 20. *dreaming* VCU is one of my top choices.

The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further. We are now in the process of scheduling interviews and will continue to do so through February. Unfortunately, the committee indicates interest in far more candidates than we are able to interview. Since we are dependent on the Committee member's schedules for interview spaces, we are unable to predict when or if we will be able to schedule you this year. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken.

Yep. I got this one about 1.5 weeks ago. Contrary to popular belief, there were actually 3 status updates out there issued by VCU. THe top priority one actually said that they were on high priority score. The middle one,I believe, is this one. The lower tier one actually tells the students that they MAY not get an interview.

Yep, I can confirm the third update, unfortunately. I'm an August MCATer waiting on scores to be released this week, but based on my previous scores (I guess) I got this status update last week:

The committee's file review indicates that they wish to consider your file over the next several weeks before making a decision about interview. Since they have some reservations about granting an interview, your file will be reviewed again by a small sub-committee before making a final decision. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken.

yes, it means u were very high priority.

picture this. they ranked all the applicants from 1 through 100, 1 being the highest and 100 being the lowest. they ionly have a set number of interview slots for 2 weeks out. therefore, they offer the first 20 or so applicants interviews. but just say that the top 30 are considered high priority. so those other 10 will get "high priority" status update.

those from 31 through just say 70 get the 2nd status update. 71 through 100 get the 3rd status update.

as applicatinos keep coming, the top 30 slots keep getting refilled, while slots 31 through 70 actually increase. as does 71 through 100. so u can pretty much figure out that if ur in the middle, everyone with a higher rank will interview first.

when i interviewed a couple of weeks ago, they said their system couldn't (at this time) automatically upload updates, so it'll come on the next monday...

Well UMiami also has a status page thingy and they are letting there students know prior to the 15th. I think VCU should follow suite 😛 . They could just update our status without sending us an email so that way if we check and find good news, it'll just be a coincedence! Although this would only further our compulsive nature... 😀

MCV/VCU is my top choice too ShyRem, but I gotta be realistic here... 😳
