As much as I enjoy the random chatter, I have a VCU question: has anyone who's been accepted gotten a financial aid package yet??
What is a financial aid package exactly? Is it the info regarding how much I have to pay after scholaships (if I get any?)? I e-mailed financial aid office a coupel of days ago and they told me that I needed to return my credit report and financial aid form ASAP. There is a web application for financial aid and I think there are a couple more papreworks that we need to send.

I got a maybe response too...perhaps we can combine our two "maybes" to form an actual acceptance?

Right... 😉

On a vaguely related note, I was wasting some time yesterday (it was a study break, OKAY?) looking for housing in Richmond. Getting more than a little ahead of myself I know, but it doesn't hurt to look. There are some pretty nice condos for only about $100,000. Or you can rent a nice apartment for $800 per month. It's like reverse sticker shock.

And yay for page 93! We've made some excellent progress today.

That's one of the great things about Richmond -- the cost of housing. $100K for a Condo is incredible. Where I live, it's at least 4x as much.

rescuing from page 2...

Holy crap, tonight's episode of house was crazy! But... the preview for next week's seems to kinda overlook Foreman's new dilemma completely. They show Foreman running around like everything's ok.

Someone should call the front office and find out if they are going to update every wed. This could definitely save some unnecessary stress.

These 2 episodes were the first ones I've seen. I'm hooked on enough shows and trying to avoid more. I'm pleased to see the show's as good as everyone says. My favorite part about last night's episode was when he said, "Call Jack Bauer." Totally cracked me up

1st one to hit page 100 should get a acceptance to VCU. What do you say Dr.H? I know you are out there....

It still doesn't change the fact that the preview of next week's episode showed Foreman running around like everything is fine. =P

Oh man, if that were true, we would be at page 100 in less than five minutes.

But alas, it is not. But it is true that the last person in off of the waitlist gets a scholarship. I think I'd rather have peace of mind knowing I was in earlier, however. I smell a poll.

LOL, it's possible to set your SDN user preferences to show fewer or greater posts per page. Depending on who you ask, this thread might already surpass 100 pages...or it might not be past page 3! 😛

Really? I didn't know that. Hmm. Well I guess page 100 on the default setting then.

On an equally (if not more) important note, some trolls have apparently voted VCU Central back down to 4 stars. This cannot stand. Everybody vote for 5 stars!

edit: ooh, and hooray for page 94. We are getting so close!

Gee, blee, my options only allow me to see a max of 25 posts per page. So... I guess the lowest # of pages would be 93? On the other hand, it could be at page 465 if you only allow 5 posts per page!

I just gave you all five stars on the condition that Shy is the first one off this gd waitlist.

gd, it really is a shame we won't be going to school together. I think they were just too scared to have us in the same class!

I think a "2006 VCU Central" med school class would be very interesting, indeed.

Shy, they hardly want us in the same state! That's why you have to be 4.5 hours away with a mountain range in between us.

4.5 hours? How slow do you drive there, granny?? I usually make it in about 3 (3.5 if I'm slow) from my doorstep to darn near anywhere in Denver proper. 3.5 (or 4 if I hit rush hour) to my in-laws house north of Denver closer to the Greeley area. But I definitely drive the speed limit. My car goes zoom. 😀

For real?? What kind of a scholarship? A thank-for-being-patient-and-sorry-for-all-the-agony scholarship?

True, I'm a little confused by that. But since I don't intend to watch, I really don't care 😉

If I remember correctly from what Dr. H said on interview day:

Once upon a time, there was a man who had to wait FOREVER to get into his beloved first choice school, VCU. And on the last day possible, they finally said yes. Now, this man was soooo thrilled that he worked very hard all through med school to make his school proud of him. And when he graduated, he was first in his class! Then, he went out in the world and made whole piles of money, some of which he decided to give back to his beloved VCU. He wanted this money to go to other students who loved VCU as much as he did, and had to wait as long as he did, so they could spend four years studying hard and doing very well without worrying about the Big Bad Loan Company! THE END 😀

Truth is, I have only made it as far west as Palisades. I have no idea what I am talking about.

Heh, a VCU Central 2006 med class would be scary. =P

you were so close to my house and my overflowing with baked goodness kitchen. Palisade is about 15 minutes from my house.

Since we're all trying to make up to 100, can I ask a non-relevent question? Is there any good Japanese restaurant in Richmond area? I drove around Richmond (near VCU undergrad campus) during my interview visit and was only able to find one small Japanese restaurant. Since I'm Asian, I'd love to continue to enjoy some Asian culture. I wonder how much Asian culture exist in Richmond area (in terms of food and restaurant such as Janpanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Indian..)

bump.

I finally sent a letter to Dr. H, so now I'll start the count down to hear back.

Hey Kids,
So other than the "last-person accepted off the waitlist" scholarship, there are apparently several other "recruiting" scholarships that are given out by VCU each year (according to the website). I asked Dr H about them, and she said rather vaguely, "we're still trying to figure out the budget, we're waiting on the legislature." Does anyone know anything about them? Are they substantial or small? Is there anything one can do to increase one's chances of getting one?

Here is a link that will take you to VCU's SOM website and give you a bit more info

If you live in The Fan then Aikido is the closest place to get decent sushi. If you want a change of pace and don't mind the drive, head out to Sushi Bay (10490 Ridgefield Pkwy).

For Indian I always went to Farouk's in Carytown. Their lunch buffet is pretty sucky, but dinner is very good. Although I never went, the Taj Mahal on Hull St. got good reviews from some folks I knew.

There are also some good carts on campus that serve lunch on the streets. I used to eat from Thai Cabin religiously, and there is also an Indian cart (servings were a bit small for me, but pretty tasty).

My highest recommendation, however, has to go to Sidewalk Cafe. Best damn bar food I've ever had (the owner is of thick Greek descent and it shows). Tell Kimber I miss her (she works the day bartender shift on weekdays).

I think it was plastic surgery in Hawaii, but I'm not 100% sure.
