I have noticed that in the transcript request form of the application there are a few required fields such as other names, institution and campus attended. I only get my first and last name typed in automatically, the rest is blank. I was just wondering if they want us to type this information in somehow or have it written by hand. I know it probably does not make a difference, but I just wanted to make sure I don't have to resend my transcripts. Thank you!

i didnt even use the request form and they said that its fine.... although without the AACOMAS ID it may take longer to ID your transcripts to your application if there are >1 person applying w\ your name. so........ it don't really matter

Yeah, it's the form that should be submitted along with the transcript. It's from the AACOMAS website.

When I looked at it, I figured just write it in by hand to help them match your trascript to your file.

WOW!

Just finished the AACOMAS for the EC 2008 cycle. Now, I guess all I can do is wait. Anyone else finish the application yet? Where are you applying (ATSU-KCOM for me)?

Good luck,
Ryan

I turned mine in Thursday. I'm applying to AZCOM, CCOM, DMU, KCUMB, MSU, and Nova.

Verified? Does that mean that it has been reviewed already? Or does that mean that you still have to wait the 4-6 weeks for ti to be processed?

Thanks,
Ryan

WOW! That was a fast verification! I submitted mine on Tues but am still waiting for one pesky CC transcript... hopefully monday! I'm applying to LECOM-B, Nova, ATSU, SOMA, Western, Touro NV and CA and PCOM.

i don't get it. why not send the lor in the primary? don't med school review your primaries b4 they send you your secondaries?

In my experience, most schools do not review your primary before sending you the secondary. but the few that do "review" before sending secondaries generally take a very quick look. they're not looking at details... basically numbers only I think. but anyway, earlier is always better in this process so get those lor's in soon!! Your entire app won't be "complete" until there in.

come to ATSU - KCOM. FUN AND GREAT!!!

Hi everyone!

I plan on submitting my application next week. I just started to work for a D.O. last friday and plan on working with him until the end of June. I wanted to update my application after I was done working for him and I was wondering how long that usually took or what the whole process is (do I have to tell each school i applied to or just AACOMAS)? Thank you! 🙂

Since there aren't many characters to express how you feel about the experience (I would save that for secondaries) I say that you put it down now if you know what you'll be doing. You have already started so it is ok to do that. However, if you don't feel comfortable doing that then I would send a message to schools later that you have had this experience. (I was under the impression that you can't change your experience section once you have submitted) but that you could tell each school individually if you had something to update them on.

Does anyone know if this is true?

Hello all! I submitted my application Thursday, and under the status section, it says they received everything (transcripts, MCAT, payments) by June 8th at the latest, except the Designations part says it still hasn't been mailed out to the schools. Is this normal? I'm worried that something is wrong. Thanks!

No this is absolutly normal. It typically takes 3-6 weeks to after submission to mail to the schools. Call them if it is not done in 3 weeks.

Quick question - if you submit your AACOMAS now to X number of schools, and then, say late August/early September decide to apply to a few more schools, how does this affect your application to those schools in terms of being early/late?

In other words, once you've submitted AACOMAS, it takes time to verify and then mail the application to schools, but how long does it take if it has already been verified and you are just adding on an extra school or two?

(My application won't be "complete" until then anyways because that is when I'll be getting my MCAT scores so I'm just curious in case my scores are higher/lower than what I expected and I decide to apply to an extra school at that time.)

Thanks so much!!

It's normal. AACOM needs to verify your course work that you entered against your transcripts and calculate your GPA's. It usually takes about a month, give or take, for them to do this. They don't send out your completed application to the medical schools until after you have been verified and your GPA's have been calculated. Keep checking your status.

I believe you are correct in that you can not change your EC section once the app has been verified by AACOMAS. THe only thing you can do is update your grades and MCATs.

OP, write about your shadowing now and mention what you do and that you will be continuing with the doc until the end of June. You put the dates of the experience anyway, so the schools will see that you are continuing to shadow. You can always mail something to each school updating them to your experiences, but definitely add something to your AACOMAS app now.

I think the definition of early/late is different this year than in the past b/c the MCAT is offered more than twice a year. Obviously, the earlier to any school, the better. Once you've been verified, an added school should be get your app within a few days or so, so that is no big deal.

Hey all,
I took a Psychobiology course in my undergrad. This is basically a neuroscience class. We covered visual neurology, cranial nerves, neural functions, etc. This is listed on my transcript as being a psychology course. Should I still list it as a bio course? I did well in it and it will help my BCPM. 😕

Thanks

Sure, go ahead. It seems the primary focus of the course content was Biology. AACOMAS will fix it if they disagree.

Hello all,

Quick question: I received 4 credits for taking a calculus course in high school from a county college. On AACOMAS when listing this course, it only offers selection of "undergraduate" and "freshman" "sophmore" etc. How do I specify that I took the course in high school? Do I need to specify the college credits earned from the county college?

Thanks for any help.

I could be mistaken, but I believe the status goes by credit hour, so it being your first few credits as a freshman.

For your second question, you have to add the community college in the same way you did for your university, as another institution.

Ok guys...
Very sorry about this, but WHAT cover form? I know there's one on AMCAS but where did you find it on the AACOMAS?! I just sent requests via fax to my schools. Thanks for the help.

I agree. I had a physiological psychology course along with its lab (which was basically a neuroanatomy lab) and I listed both as a "Bio" course and that was fine with AACOMAS, so you should be fine. Did the same on AMCAS, they both seemed to be more focused on the actual course content than which department it was taught from. Especially with some of my more basic-science-based psych courses that had a lot of overlap with the bio and neuroscience departments.

I took an Advanced Placement English course in high school and Physics 1 over a summer at a local Univeristy, both of which were pass/fail.

I am viewing my AACOMAS GPA, and it looks like they counted both courses as "C"' grades when calculating my GPA, which lowered my GPA by .07

Why is the AP English being counted as a C? Is there anything I can do to rectify this?

I am thinking of retaking Physics 1 and an English class this Fall to give my GPA a bump.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I don't remember exactly what happened with mine, but this does not sound correct. I took Physics I AP and had no problem with the GPA. Defiently call AACOMAS and talk to someone in person. You may want to retake them this summer. I was going to do the same thing if I had not gotten in.

Thanks for the advice. Called AACOMAS, got the AP English rectified.

Hi guys, I am familiar with what AMCAS sends out regarding your college coursework and how it is broken down and presented to AdComs, however, I am unfamiliar with how this is done by AACOMAS. I have my 08' app submitted and my GPA has been calculated by them. Is the information that is presented on my app in that format sent to and used by AdComs? Just curious, thanks ladies and gents

It has been about a week for me since I sent transcripts, I wish they would update it soon :luck:

Will submitting the application around the last week of June still be early in the app cycle?

Does aacom require mcat scores to process the application and sent to the
schools?
I applied on the 5th, they are still waiting on the transcripts, once the transcripts is recieved...do they start verifying and then send to the schools?

thanks.

Yeah, I think so. Seems like it would still be early until around the end of July, IMO.

Got mine in this morning. Now its waiting time.

They will varify the transcripts when they recieve them it should take 3-6 weeks. In order for them to send it out to the schools I think you need an MCAT score regardless if you plan on taking them again. I'm not 100% sure though, I would speak to AACOMAS about that. I remember last year mine didn't get sent out until my MCAT's were recieved. I hope you are accepted into the school of your choice. Good Luck!!!

They get a print out of the course work and grades you entered in the course work section of the app. At one of the schools I interviewed, they had it out on the desk and actually went through all the grades with me. They also get a GPA breakdown by year, non-science, and science (which is accesible to you once the primary is processed).

Most schools dont start interviewing until september or october so july would be pretty early and should land you in the earlier interview slots.

I have a lot of different work and extra curriculars, but a lot of them aren't related to medicine. Should I include those?

Yes. Not everything has to be related to medicine. I have plenty of non-medical EC's as well as other people. It shows that you are a well-rounded person.

Agreed. I listed things like being a Sunday School teacher and volunteering at a local school.

Hi Everyone, I have 2 questions:

1. Does anyone know how to indicate lab sections if they are not specifically listed on your transcript? For example all of my pre-reqs are 4 credits w/ lab but there I don't see an area on AACOMAS like AMCAS where you can specify that the class had an associated lab. So, do I just add "& lab" to the course description or just enter Bio I, 4 credits, my grade, and let them sort it out?

2. There are a few classes, like genetics, where the lab grade was also combined into the lecture grade, but there is a seperate line on my transcript for the associated lab, however the credit hours and grade are blank. Do you enter those labs as seperate entries on AACOMAS although they have no associated grade or credit hour?

Thanks in advance for your help

I don't think I listed them separately. I just listed (for example) BIO 110 and lab in the description since my BIO 110 had a lab but I was only given one grade for the lecture/lab.

I'll be starting PCOM's biomedical sciences program in the fall. Do I include those courses on my application?

I run an online business and make a small profit from it. I originally did it as a hobby, but it has grown into something that I have been able to make a profit. Should I list this under work experience or extracurriculars?

I would say work. I think it sounds even more impressive that you make a small profit from your business 😀

Good Luck :luck:
