Any advice is appreciated:

I would like to submit my AACOMAS primary this month and would also like to apply to these schools which are unlikely to be added as designations until September. Any suggestions, please?
 
Hey, anyone's app stuck on processing? It gave me a mailing date and just says processed, I don't know if that means it was mailed or?

Does anyone know about LECOM, do we submit secondary right now or wait until we get notified? Also, is anyone submitting secondaries without MCAT scores or is it best to wait. I will see mine in 3 weeks.

My application has already been processed and mailed. What can I do now? Do I need to simply inform each school of this individually? Has anyone had issues similar to this?

Contact AACOM. It might be possible to update your application. My recollection is that you can update academic, biographic, and MCAT information, but I'm not sure about the work and/or the experiences sections. Check with AACOM.

From the General Instructions:

Updating Your Applicant Profile

While AACOMAS processing is generally completed once your materials reach your designated colleges, you may want to update Applicant Profile information with MCAT scores or new course information.

AACOMAS should be informed in writing of any change in biographic information reported on the Applicant Profile. When informing AACOMAS of a change in legal residence, provide both the county and the state.

To update your Academic Record with new course work, contact the registrar at the institution you are currently attending to request an official transcript, showing the addition of the updated course work, be forwarded to AACOMAS. Transcripts should be postmarked by April 1 to be included in final processing.

Once you view your updated information online, please report any discrepancies to AACOMAS.

You can call them and ask them what they suggest. But I was wondering.. is the shadowing the only thing you did? If you have other extraculliculars that are strong then I wouldnt worry about it. I ended up leaving mine off and it never phased my application. dont let it hold up your application is the main point to my post.

If I turned in my AACOMAS on the 29th of June, when do i expect to start getting secondaries from schools? What could be the earliest date? Thanks.

Relax. This is AACOMAS and school dependent.

1. Depends on when you get verified, might take a couple weeks.
2. Depends on when schools decided to send secondaries and also if the school screens.

Refer to this thread about secondaries and when they came out.

Here is more information about the AACOMAS process from the AACOMAS FAQ:

A: The best way is our online application status check. You can log in to your account and click any of five linke under Status to determine how AACOMAS has calculated your GPA, the status of Transcripts, receipt of official MCAT scores, your College Designations, and your Payments.

AACOMAS normally processes applications in three to six weeks from the time your application is complete. An application is complete when AACOMAS has received all required transcripts and your application. Once your application has been verified you will be able to view your calculated GPA through the status check link available after logging on to the application service. Your application will be mailed shortly thereafter. Once your new application has been mailed it will be indicated with a date listed in the mailing section and your mailing status for that designation will be listed as either New or Revised.

Q: How long will it take for my application to be processed and be sent to my designated schools?

A: Although the time frame varies, AACOMAS normally processes applications in three to six weeks. Missing transcripts and/or receipt of large volumes of materials in the AACOMAS Office can affect this time frame. If you do not see transcripts posted to your account two weeks after they were sent, please contact AACOMAS to make sure that your materials have been received. You should allow four weeks after submitting your application for processing before contacting AACOMAS regarding the status of your application. Also, once your application status reflects that your materials have been processed and mailed to your designated schools, please allow at least 10 working days for your materials to reach and be processed by your designated schools.

Submit your application without delay. Don't wait until the aforementioned schools are available for designation. My understanding is that AACOMAS allows you to add designations later, up to the submission deadline for the schools you are planning on adding. Thus, the best course of action is to submit your primary this month, as you are planning, then when Rocky Vista and Pacific North West become available for designation, add them.

If you have questions about your status, contact AACOM. However, if everything has been verified, your GPAs calculated, your status says processed, and your designations have mail dates, then it sounds like you are done with the primary (AACOMAS) application stage. Your primary application was mailed out on the specified mailing date. Now, get your LORs ready to send and take a look at last year's secondary essays (or this years if they are available) and start working on them as you wait for your secondary applications to arrive. When the secondaries arrive, don't sit on them; get them and your LORs out to the schools as soon as reasonably possible. In general, the sooner your file is complete at the schools, the sooner your file can be reviewed.

Check this thread for details on specific secondary applications, including LECOM. It is a good idea to submit your secondary applications without unnecessary delay, if possible and reasonable. Don't wait until until your MCAT scores are out. The idea is to complete everything else in your file as you wait for the score release, so that as soon as your scores finally come out and are received by the schools, your file can be reviewed.
 
How do you check your status at TCOM? I am so confused..they say go the portal, but you cant access it if you aren't a student?? Am I missing something...
 
The website shows everything was received but none of my schools were mailed...is it still under review?? How long does this take? I have yet to receive a single secondary ! 🙁

Hi guys,

My GPA is recently calculated by AACOMAS. I don't have an English GPA or hours. My school uses 5 Humanities classes for the English requirement. We did a lot of writing in those classes as well. AACOMAS placed those classes under "Other Non-Science." I know all DO schools have a 6 semester hour requirement for English. Should I tell AACOMAS to place those classes under English??? or do you think the schools would know and I just have to explain in my secondary??

I would call AACOMAS and ask them. I would also suggest calling the schools you are applying to so they can tell you what they suggest. good luck.
 
i'm re-askin' my question because it got moved to page 12 of a thread which no one looks at.

i just went to school and told them to send it to AACOMAS... but i didnt give them the transcript request form.....


should i go back and re-order another set or will it be fine??

The thread is here for a purpose and yes people DO read this thread and answer questions. Just right now (summer/July) is traditionally a very slow time for SDN.

Your answer is, if you didn't send in the transcript form, don't worry about it. I didn't send it for any of my 8 transcripts and all of them have been received.

I had the same problem with mine - I copied/pasted the exact same text from a text file four different times and got four different character counts. 🙄

It wouldn't accept it until it was around ~4480 for me too - weird. Luckily, I had a few places I could trim.
 
I've now revised it 4 times and every time I have to cut because I end up adding over the 4500. Why don't they just bump it. Seriously. Quit secondaries and just give us more room! That's my vote! 😀
 
Hi everybody,
I've been contemplating this for awhile and just decided to finally seek some outside input.

In my senior year of high school I got a Minor In Possession of Alcohol. I need to enter this information in the "have you ever been convicted of any misdemeanors or felonies?" section and I'm not sure what I should put in the "description" section.

Please help. Any advice or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
 
I had a question about grades on AACOMAS--I come from a quarter-system school that uses numerical 0-4.0 grades. However, I'm not really sure what to enter in the "AACOMAS Grade" box on the application for my courses (It says "to the best of your knowledge..." not sure what that means) any help would be appreciated!

Also, we have to calculate semester hours ourselves, unlike AMCAS, right? thanks!

So I go to submit my AACOMAS app and I print it out to triple check everything, when I print, only my first 11 EC/Volunteer activities appear 🙁 I know stupid question but will they see the other 10?

im applying 2008, mcat august 9th

if i send my ap for the DO schools will i be super late?

do you ahve to list prior mcat atempts if they have expired

It's best if you send in your application NOW. You will not be late this cycle with an August MCAT.

When you release your MCAT scores to AACOMAS, all scores after 1993 will be forwarded to AACOMAS (or AMCAS). So yes, your prior MCAT's will show up. Make sure to list that you are scheduled to take the MCAT in August on your application . . . . This way schools will wait to review your application until your new score arrives.

Well, this is my first time applying to DO schools...my uncle's DO buddy sold me.

Anyway, im in a little bit of a bind with the EC/work exp/volunteer section. It doesn't allow for research publications and presentations the way AMCAS does. I know DO doesn't put research on as high of a pedestal as the current MD trends, but it's kindof interesting stuff and would make the overall app stronger. Anyone found a way around this (like, all blanks in the hours/dates section for work experiences?)
 
I think the idea that Osteopathic schools don't care about research is a misconception. Anyways, list in in the extracurricular section and in the description list your publication.
 
I'm applying to schools whose deadlines are in April.

When should I apply?
 
In my AACOMAS GPA calculations, I have no "Behavioral Science" hours. I didn't take an psych classes in college, but I did take a class called "Animal Behavior." Do you guys think I could try to petition this as counting for a behavioral science class? I know that I'm stretching this here...the class was offered from the bio dept., but it would be nice to have it count to fulfill part of that requirement.

Any thoughts? Thanks!
 
did you take any occupational leadership or soc classes? Those count too.
 
Nope, the closest that I have is an anthropology class...or wait, does that count as sociology? It satisfied the "behavioral science" criteria at my undergrad institution.

you are supposed to put anthro under behavioral on the aacomas...
 
I can't remember if I did that or not. Darn...but is there any way to correct this? I e-mailed AACOMAS about this already. There's no way to change your app. after it's submitted, right?

I called one of the schools that I applied to, and a (very helpful) counselor said that the anthro I took doesn't count as a behavioral science for them.

Two of my transcripts were send out June 27 and 28. AACOMAS still has not received them!!!! 🙁 Anyone else having this problem?

I emailed and called. Email said it is probably lost. Phone said they are a week behind in entering the transcripts so I should wait...but shouldn't the transcripts have gotten there by now and been processed? It has been over two weeks. I'm afraid if I wait too long it will take longer for my application to get processed.

Please some advice. Should I resend my transcripts or wait to see if they show up?

Check with your school first to see if they were actually mailed. If they have been, I would wait a few more days. AACOMAS takes a while to get them up, especially in early summer when everyone is sending in there apps.

I listed mine in the " EC/work exp/volunteer section". If you really want them to know about it, send a resume with your secondary.

I have waited and waited and my AACOMAS says processed when you click on designations but I have not received any secondaries. It has been processed since Monday. How long does it usually take for these schools to contact you? Thanks! I am a bit nervous because I am starting to get the feeling that I just did something completely wrong. :scared:

So you are verified, your GPAs have been calculated, and you are processed. Do all your designations have mail dates? If so, then just chill. There's nothing more you can do on the primary applicant dept. Just wait for the secondaries to arrive; the time for this varies. Just chill. Otherwise, if you are concerned that something went awry with your primary app, contact AACOM.

i was completed on june 18th and started getting secondaries this week...so chill out, relax, get some tan and just wait😀:luck:
 
well, it says processed...under the mail category...is it supposed to have a date for each school?

Within a short period after verfication, your primary app gets mailed out to your designations. You know this has occurred when you check your school designations and each has a mail date. If you are unsure, or your app has not been mailed within a short period after verification, contact AACOM.

I found that copying and pasting from a text editor into the application window transfered the wrap-around text as carriage returns; that is to say, there were a bunch of extra spaces at the end of every other line or so. Resetting the preferences for the text editor to wrap fixed it, and copying from a window half again as large as the window in the application allowed me to double-check. Saved ~50 characters...
 
so on my aacomas app, my 'mailing status' says 'processed', and to the left of that the 'mailing date' is indicated. does that mean that my primary was sent to the schools? what does the 'processed' mean?
eeek so confused!
