I was accepted to OHSU today and I am very excited to go to a school where I will actually be the average age upon matriculation! They also claim they will build a daycare center. SOOO EXCITED!!!😀

That's awesome. 👍 Congratulations, melissainsd!

Hurray for you! Congrats to everyone who shared their recent good news, and good luck to those still waiting to hear :luck: :luck:

Congrats to all the recent admits!

"Dear Mr. ------,

I am writing to advise you of the status of your application to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. The Admission Committee has reviewed your credentials and has elected to place you on the wait list. In May, the Committee will admit from the wait list. Naturally, further consideration will be given to your application at that time. We feel honored that you have chosen to apply to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

Yours truly,

Beth Piraino, M.D."

I think Shakespeare put it best when he said, and I quote, "F*** a duck."

It has to be the QPA; that's the only explanation that makes sense. 😡

Quix...I'm so sorry to hear that, buddy. Join me in Pitt waitlist hell. They waitlisted me for my MCAT score (99.995% sure about that one). ugh.

😱 🙁 I'm sorry to hear that, Quix. On the other hand, at least it isn't an outright rejection. You still have a chance. Write them some really compelling letters of intent, which I know you definitely can do.

PBandJ, I didn't know they put you on the waitlist. I'm sorry to hear that, too. 🙁

I'm crossing my fingers that you both get pulled off the waitlist, if this is the school you want to attend. :luck: :luck: :luck:

Quix,

Don't give up hope. How much movement does the waitlist generally have? And do you know if it is a ranked waitlist and where you are on the waitlist? You may be next in line!👍

I'm really envious - apparently OHSU doesn't even want to interview me. Portland is a great city and OHSU is a really good school. Is that where you think that you will end up?

I actually wrote one back in January (the 29th), updating them quite specifically on additional experience and qualifications (the IRB #'s of my studies with overviews), the specific book chapters I wrote for Critical Care Nephrology and the forthcoming chapters for the Oxford Desk Reference, as well as the current articles on research ethics. The only thing that wasn't included in that letter were the *most* recent developments, which involve me wearing a new hat as the project manager for two additional studies through the department of critical care medicine. What more do they want? Blood? Sacrifice? Just tell me, vengeful adcom, whom to smite and they shall be smoten!

Yikes, that's unreal; those recent accomplishments are amazing. I don't know what to say, and I don't blame you feeling both angry and sad. I hope everything works out and that the adcoms come to their senses, because they are clearly not thinking straight. 😕

Thank you for interviewing with members of our Admissions Committee at the Florida State University College of Medicine. We sincerely appreciate your interest in our medical program.

At this time, the Committee has elected to place your application in our HOLD category. The Admissions Committee will continue to evaluate your folder as the admission cycle proceeds. You should make no assumption regarding your acceptance or non-acceptance to the program at this time. We will inform you when a final decision has been reached by our Admissions Committee which will occur after all interviews have been completed and after all applicants files placed in the Hold category have been re-reviewed. You should expect to hear from us again in mid to late April.

"F*** a duck."

Friggin hilarious. My usual response is much less entertaining, "Poop."

Edit: RisingSun- unless monkeys begin flying out of my butt (i.e. Harvard, Mayo, or Brown acceptance), I am fairly sure I will end up there. I love the class schedule (8-12 most days). They also seem the best place to go if you're a mom. Don't give up hope though, I think they interview through April.

Congrats!

I was talking with a friend today who has a marvelous way of grounding me, helping me to realize that a waitlist is better than a rejection, and that there are many people who would be ecstatic to be where I am now. I felt better after talking with her.

Regardless, I'm still thinking that I should get individual letters from every member of the Dept. of Critical Care at Pitt to write update LORs for my file. 😉

I think you should try to display your humble and caring side to the adcom. Your academic achievement has been outstanding, but if you show an attitude of over confidence with your academic credentials, those people who interviewed you and/or the adcom may balk at that. You know, they like premeds who admire them, not the other way around. 😉

I have just started looking at the nontrad forum here, but I am on preinterview hold at DMU, KCUMB, CCOM, UNE, and I am on the waitlist at NSU. This mostly due to a screw up with AACOMAS and a lost transcript and a delay of about 2 months back in December. Hooray for relying on other people when it comes to things which directly effect your life.

That's undoubtedly an unfortunate situation. 🙁 Sorry to hear about it. That's why I'm super paranoid about every step, and I don't feel like I can actually relax until my white coat ceremony. I'm in favor of having faith, but also tying up my horses with a figure eight knot.

Good luck Quix! You're local, so you can afford to hold out for a waitlist spot over he summer. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I went to my UVM interview and it was a really great school, really my idea of a perfect med school actually. But I can't see moving my kids so far away from home. So, I've withdrawn my app and it's Erie or bust! I'm really glad I went to the interview though. It made me feel 100% certain about LECOM.

I also got a rejection letter from Harvard today, but I didn't apply there. I don't know if I should be offended or flattered...

Oh, and congrats to PB&J on the most recent good news 👍

Thanks for the update, MVDM. Glad you feel confident of your choice to attend LECOM. 👍

thanks MVDM!! i am so glad you're all set on somewhere to go. 😀

I see, I see...Harvard rejection....I also did not apply there, but got rejected yesterday...Whats wrong with those people ? hehehe

Glad to hear you liked the school, MVDM. I was very impressed by the place. I've never seen such large groups of happy students. I went to the interview with high expectations, but the school exceeded them.

Even though you've ruled it out, I'm glad you were happy you went. If for no other reason than not to wonder "what if?" And now you can be all the more satisfied that LECOM is perfect for you. Well done...

I was surprised you didn't look like your avatar. Disappointed really. I kept waiting for your avatar to walk in the door.... But it's more disappointing for you I suppose to realize I'm not really Bea Arthur.

Good luck with UVM! Only another month or so until they give you the decision. I'll keep my figners crossed! 👍

I just found this thread. I graduated in finance about 4 years ago now. I am on the waitlist at LMU DCOM, TOURO-CA and NY. I am also on a post interview hold status at WVSOM.

Quix, I know the feeling. Although I don't have chapters in a textbook, that's pretty spankin' cool!

I keep thinking of my favorite movie, LA Story. It has a line where Steve Martin is trying to get his love interest Victoria Tennant to stay in LA rather than go back to London. He says:
I know there's something
that would make you stay!
The right word, attitude, plan...
but these are all tricks!
So let's forego that!
Let's assume that it happened,
that my hand went down
your throat,
grabbed your heart and squoze it!

I feel that way about the adcoms. I'm SO SO close to getting into the school I'd like to be at, I'm trying everything I (as well as others) can think of, and there's gotta be SOMETHING that can just push my application over the edge. I'd do ... an awful lot... to make it happen. I mean, in order to get the best score possible, I moved across the country for six months to study for the MCAT without distractions (and work on a research project). I'll make whatever grand sweeping gesture or small hand signals they need -- and yet it's still undetermined until I see how far through the waitlist they go!!!

I don't post a lot in here but I've been following along and here's to hoping you have found the adcom's heart and "squoze it." Good luck.

Thanks, sporty. Hopefully if I can get CCM some money for a study on renal failure their hearts will be sufficiently squozen.

I feel like I'm the only one who hasn't heard yet whether I'm in, waitlisted, or out on my keester.

Out of the 12 schools I applied to, I've received 11 rejections. I'm not complaining, there are probably reasons for this. But at this point, I just WANT TO KNOW!

The one school left interviewed me a month ago and I heard through the grapevine that they'll be meeting this week, and I'm once again on needles and pins with waiting. This whole process has taxed my patience beyond what I thought I could bear.

best of luck elzeekio! i hope you hear good news soon! 😀

Bon chance!

Pitt's waitlist acceptances are coming up in a few weeks. Yee-hah.

You're not still waiting, are you? I thought they (or somebody!) would snatch you up like a bottle of Fresca in the middle of summer. I hope you get in! 👍

Good luck Quix, elzeekio, PBandJ, and everyone else still waiting to hear from schools. I hope that all of you guys get in!!

I haven't posted on this thread for a while, but just wanted to add Indiana U acceptance, and waitlists at UofWashington and Baylor.

I just got an acceptance (my first) to the USF College of Medicine in Tampa FL! 15 years in the making! Good luck everyone! :luck: :luck: :luck:

LifetimeDoc, that's great news!! I knew you would get into one of your Florida state schools! I remember how nervous you were a few months ago about not having any interviews, so I'm really happy for you! All that waiting paid off!

12 Rejections and 11 months later, it's over.

I'm not going to begin my journey to becoming a doctor next fall.

Good luck and best wishes to the rest of you still in the game or going off to Med School!

Sorry to hear that, Zeek.

Mentally, I'm gearing up for the next cycle. I applied late in the cycle this time around, and assuming things don't work out at Pitt this time around, I told myself I would at least give it another full cycle.

I am sorry Zeek. Take some time to gather your self and your thoughts and find out from the schools what you can do to make you a more competative applicant.

really sorry Zeek. i don't even know what to say, maybe it is over for this cycle, but i think you have great background, hopefully you will have better luck next time. good luck.

and good luck Quix :luck: and everyone else on waitlists

Sorry to hear that. But keep your chin up! I am sure there are ways in which you can improve your application (apply earlier, etc.) to make yourself a better applicant next time around. Good luck with everything!:luck:

So I'm a non-trad and I sadly have not been admitted to any med schools this year (I have limited hope for 2 waitlists though). But, I just finished law school and am now Kidthor, J.D.!

Hi everyone, Im an aging premed anxious to be posting on the thread and I need some advice through the process since Im able to see a counselor all
the time. My question is what I need to be doing this summer or any time soon. So far Im halfway done with classes but not sure I need the biochem.
Would like to take a EMT class before doing anymore volunteering. The most
I did was tutor for a few jobs. But would like a solid year of that. Then findingsomeworkwiththatlicense. Should I do more of the school stuff and then plan to take MCATs next year. how important is doing all the clinical and
communtywork to the apps if I did all school for the last couple years as a postbaccb/cIcouldnt afford it and ran up some problems? Dropped a few classes and more retakes. Im rally thinking about the SMPs but dont have
the chem to go into Masters. Will SMPs accept chem for Life Sciences? which ones and dont like MPHs. GPA is not hot, few EC's. Take the summer and then a year for a SMP? orjutstowork uptsome.Manyclassstaken at CC andnoneupdiv.😴 😕
