Wow congrats on the interview! Anyone know if Pitt's mstp has an online status check? I'm not sure if my two research advisors have emailed them my letters, and the mstp program hasn't responded to my emails.

Yes, go here and use your email address as your username and your AMCAS ID as the password. Select MSTP applicant. Good luck!

Are interviews for MSTP sent out separate from MD at all schools? I was looking on the pre-allopathic forum, and it seems that some schools that I have applied to sent interview invites out to people who submitted their secondaries at the same time that I did. For example, Case western hasn't sent me anything (submitted 8/22), and Michigan's page says "We are pleased to offer you an interview...All interviews for MSTP will be arranged by the MSTP office". What's up with that?

yeah mstp interviews are done separately than md interviews. further, mstp cycle is a little bit delayed in comparison to md cycle so dont worry even though the pre-allo invites are flying out.

congrats on mich! i guess you can just go ahead and arrange your interview dates! when did you complete?

2 days, but the schedule in the email was vague. The just gave times to arrive on campus each day... nothing about a time we'd be out or how long each interview will be. I'm excited nonetheless and will call today.

Oh wow! Congratulations on UCSD! I just called them yesterday, and they said the reviews weren't going to begin until October, so this is really surprising and amazing!
 
UCSD? When where you complete? I had no clue they were reviewing files already for MSTP. Congrats!
 
So what kind of questions do they ask? I kind of have a gist of what the MD questions will be like, but what about the graduate school side?

I find it odd that they get my check one day and the invite comes the next day. Does that mean they didn't even look at my secondary? Lol, seems like a waste of time if they didn't.

Congrats on NW, calf and sleepy. I applied there also but still have no decision - my last LOR from my current PI was sent out via snail mail today. Still waiting for my first interview offer.

In the interest of full disclosure, our choice of career paths is rife with seemingly pointless beaureucratic hurdles (most designed purely to cover SOMEONE ELSE'S ass).

Get used to it quickly. 😉

Thanks waterlily and britishmafia! So yea, apparently I was complete 8/21, and got the invite 8/28...which seems like a superfast turnaround! I'm also in-state, so I don't know if that helped...?

But yes, I'm super excited/nervous. It's definitely one of my top choices, but it'll also be my first interview, so who knows how I'll do. Hopefully I won't screw it up too bad hahaha. :laugh:

^^ Not cancer. I can tell you that much. My PI told me that Chicago is not the best place for cancer research.

just bought one suit today for 350 bucks (a suit, two shirts, 3 ties + alteration costs). I will put the pics up for all of yours approval (or disapproval🙁) once I get the suit back from tailor. Macy's have a good deal for next few days due to labor day weekend.

I think I am reading tea leaves in the admission process, but I think I am gonna get most of the yay or nays in next 3 weeks.

same here i applied to both as well and i want to get a suit too! i found a couple great ones a couple weeks ago but i was thinking wow.. id feel like an idiot if i bought a suit and didn't get an interviews! today i went looking again (just in case) and none of the suits i liked were there anymore! well i hope to get interviews soon so then i can actually be stressed out about this suit-less situation. also for girls in here... are you all going with a skirt suit? do you girls have any recommendations for good walking heels (if those even exist lol)?

Congrats on the NYU! I hope that I'm going to get one too soon.
 
I am little bummed out about NYU as it is on very short notice. They just told me today and the interview is in less than 3 weeks. Of course, I am not complaining. I would rather have it early. It just mean that I will have to start preparing for them very seriously now. I am hoping for Pitt soon.....

also i called case western mstp and they are currently reviewing last names beginning with Cs and should be finishing Ds around monday or so... just to give you all an update if you were curious where you are in line for review 🙂 good luck!
 
Nice...I hope no one has their last name starting with Es and Fs, so I can be reviewed on Tuesday (mine start with G). Hurray!!!

The review process and interview invitation seemed very slow initially when MD applicants were getting interviews from the left and the right. Now, it seems that the MSTPs are catching up! I can not wait:hardy:

So for an MSTP interview, I'm assuming one question will be "tell me about your research". How long of a spiel should you give in that situation? I'm sure there will be follow-up discussion, but how brief should the initial answer be?
