I got an email from one of their administrators..Apparently their associate dean is leaving for a position in maryland and it is really slowing down their admissions process, as she put it, "adding to the madness" so I'm pretty sure that is why no body has heard anything...She was replying to an email I sent her in like May for information about their program....

So UIC pays up to $300 in travel expenses. What I'd like to do is fly up for the Northwestern interview, stay the weekend with relatives, and then fly home after the UIC interview. Do you think UIC would still reimburse me for the flight if I come 5 days early? Should I ask them about it?

I don't see why not. It couldn't hurt to ask.

Congrats Calf! I'm anxiously waiting on hearing back from UIC - they told me they were holding their first review Fri. 9/12, but then Hurricane Ike happened and our email servers got a bit messed up, and I didn't get a reply to an email I sent yesterday asking about my status/if emails had been sent out. I'm hoping the silence doesn't mean a rejection :scared:

Congrats on more interviews. I would drop VCU. Even with my 5 invites so far, I am thinking withdrawing from Nebraska. I think realistically speaking 8-10 interviews are more than enough (both financially speaking and not missing too much school or work).

In any case, I am getting jitters now as I have my first interview in less than 24 hours at NYU, and I should find out if I get Wisconsin invite or not!

How deeply have you guys read the publications of the person who is interviewing you?

For people who applied to Northwestern, did they notify you by e-mail when your application was complete? Or did you simply log into the status page, seen that they had listed your letters, and assumed you were complete without explicit indication?

I could call and ask, but don't want to needlessly harass if anyone has a ready answer.

VCU is a cool place! Don't drop it. Just from a selfish perspective, it probably isn't a good idea to refuse any interviews until you get an acceptance. You never know if you're going to need it. The best idea is probably just schedule one of them later. It happens all the time and I'm sure they'd understand.

I was really impressed with the invite UVa sent, so I'm going to try to reschedule VCU and keep the date for UVa. How was VCU's campus? Could you possibly PM a couple things you liked about them? Don't worry about it if you can't; I just really like the school before visiting but the interview season is becoming packed.

It came by email around 8pm. Apparently they send out the invites in groups of 5-6 or something, so this is a drawn out process. The invite was also really personal, and I was thoroughly impressed.

Do you know who you're interviewing with?

The schedule I got said "refer to interview grid 1" or "...grid 2" etc, etc, but there is no grid... so I really don't understand. Am I missing something?

I'm starting to get really nervous about this. No rejections yet, but no interview invites either. I guess I haven't been complete at many places for that long (I got burned out half way through filling out secondaries and took a couple of weeks off, so some places are receiving the last of my materials this and next week), but still... it has been almost 4 weeks since I got the "you're complete and under review" email from 6 of my schools.

I wonder how often the committees meet. Have I already been passed over, or are they just slow? I thought my MCAT (37) made me pretty competitive despite my GPA (3.63). Then again, my essay writing skills are not exactly fantastic, so even though I spent months on my primary essays, my secondary ones are not great.

I guess it's time to just sit back, take a few deep breaths, and realize that this process is going to be really really long. So if I'm pulling my hair out the whole time, I'm just going to end up bald and unhappy. I would feel so much better if I had heard from SOMEONE, but even my state schools are silent. The only thing that I've heard at all is that I passed UVermont's first pass, but that doesn't guarantee an interview. I'm just in the pool of people from which they will pick the people they interview. Not very comforting.

Doesn't anybody want me? 🙁 I'm really nice, I swear!!! I'd make a great addition to your program!

P.S. I'm having a pity party later, and everyone's invited. Should be a pretty depressing time... you should all come. 😛

No, it was an attatchment to the invitation email. If you didn't get it they may have forgotten to attach it.

I didn't think I was going to get one for an MD/PhD program!!!!! I am so excited!😀
I also emailed UVA saying I have an interview with another school in Virginia, and if it is at all possible (and if I am still being considered for an interview) for them to have me interview around the same time. I live in CA and its pretty expensive and the two schools are 70 miles apart... What do you guys think?

That's pretty much 100% true. Most of my top choices don't seems to have sent interviews to any of you fine people yet, so I guess I'll just have to resign myself to the waiting game. I guess it's for the best. I have some weight to drop before interviewing for schools anyway (what with the whole scientifically proven bias against overweight applicants :lame:

), so I guess I'll just take this as a chance to improve my chances!

(Disclaimer: No, I'm not a 100 pound person who is concerned about losing 0.25 pounds before being seen in public. I do legitimately need to lose weight, and will do it in a healthy way. I was planning on it anyway, but now I have an added incentive. It's all part of my master plan to use my beautiful smile and my cunning wit to distract adcoms from the gaps in my application!)
