I had planned take Analytical Chem 2 lab and lecture next semester (Jan-Apr). I screwed up and registered for class late 😳 . As a result the Chem 2 lab got filled up. This means I would have to do it in the summer semester (May-Aug). This was supposed to be my last pre-req I am done with everything else.

I am now afraid this is going to delay my application for 2008. Are we supposed to have completed all the pre-reqs before May, when the application window opens?

Well.... Firstly, Analytical Chemistry is NOT a pre-req for ANY dental school. Secondly, yes, all pre-reqs should be completed before matriculating. (G. Chem, O. Chem, Bio 1, Bio 2, Physics 1, Physics 2, English Comp (2 semesters), and misc. other requirements - check school website for futher details).

Go to the chem department head and explain your situation. Be sure to emphasize the fact that (a) you know that this is completely your fault (they like ownership of fault) , (b) you've spent X amount of money applying to D-school and that would all go to waste (c) You cannot defer a D-school acceptance most school don't allow it and (d) You, of course, would be willing to take a seat in any of the 8:00am labs, just as long as you get a seat somewhere.

Last resort is to check the lab classes at a local community college see if you can get a spot there. Again, last resort, but worth a shot.

analytical is a prereg at my school for predent/premed because orgo I does not have a lab...it is replaced by the lab in analytical chemistry. Contact your advisor!

Pre-reqs only have to be completed prior to matriculation... for most schools this is May of the year you are going to start. I am finishing up my physics 2prereq right now.

oh! 2008 not 2007. you're fine.

You're school doesn't have an o-chem lab??? That's sad... I'm thinking that it's preferable to have all pre-reqs completed before interviews because that's a better indication of your performance in dental school and makes you a better candidate for admission (personal thought though).

Back off - MIT doesn't either (and I don't think you want to start that argument).

EngDentist, don't postpone your application. You don't need to have all the requirements completed. Think of all the people who apply after their sophomore or junior year. You can update your application officially in December but you can also just send an updated transcript to your schools as soon as its available.

I applied to three schools and I was accepted by all three in the first round and I am not finished with my prereqs yet.

You only need to have them done before starting school.

Back off??? LOL... okay. I'm just saying that because it was my favorite class and I am a lab instructor for organic. I feel sad for people at MIT then too... gees, poopy head.

BACK OFFF!! LOL.. I said orgo I only...we have orgo II lab. Plus we're number 1 analytical chemistry school in the nation...BACK OFF...MIT.
