I thought LOR's were submited with secondaries to the schools directly?

They are. I'm assuming he meant LOR's to a pre-health committee or Interfolio.

EDIT:

Oh, and because this is response #300 for this thread:

THIS IS SPARTA!!!

well how we did it at our school was, you go through the prehealth committee. They make a composite letter which gets sent to the schools you apply to. They also sent all the individual letters along with it.

That's awesome, except many non-trads don't have a committee to do all that 🙁

well maybe your UG could do it. I know at my school they also do alumni (which I was already in graduate school). It may be possible for you.

 Maybe, but I've been out of my UG for almost 10 years so I've got Interfolio on the case. Everything's been cool for me so far. But that's not to say others shouldn't take advantage of an alma mater's letter service.

I just got my first secondary too! GW (obviously unscreened). I'm not entirely sure if I should be excited or scared out of my mind!!

Looks like a pretty straight forward secondary. Pre-req stuff, criminal history and "Why GW" type questions. Everything is limited to a few lines so I'll have to keep it concise! Oh, and don't forget that wonderful $125 secondary fee (the REAL reason everyone gets secondaries...).

I can't figure out if I'm supposed to send in a picture or if they take it when you interview...I'll have to re-read the secondary again.

Well here we go! I'm also planning to have each secondary done within a week of reciept...although this one will probably be done Monday!

Nate.

OSU for me. Only $60. 🙄 Was very excited to see a question asking about if you've ever lived in OH and if so for how long. I grew up there and my family is still there, so I do have strong ties..

Guess I need to be on the lookout for the GW one as well....

Just heard from my premed committee. I was the first one to complete my file with them this year. I just have to set-up my interview with them and then they'll put together the composite letter. The wheels are turning...

w00t! My last transcript finally arrived at AACOMAS!

Okay, I've started obsessing since I'm still under review at AMCAS. I've been sitting at my computer for hours waiting for them to verify me, and that's not healthy. I'm going to run a few errands and then head up to the lake for a walk.

Me too. I even called today to find out how long it's typically been taking for verification and they said except 4-6 weeks, maybe a little sooner at this point.

I feel so dejected after seeing lots of other people who submitted when I did already verified. 🙁

So I've been biding my time looking at hair updos for a wedding I have to go to soon.

i am still waiting for my last transcript to verify as received. i hope they do so soon..the thing was sent from Boston between the 6th and the 11th! My other transcripts took as little as 10 days to be received and verified. Urghhhhhh....

AMCAS 2008 is now open. Good luck to all of you:luck: :luck: :luck:

congrats on your admission. That is great considering what you were likely up against with the GPA and MCAT score. I am sure your life experiences helped a lot.

Review is complete - bring on the secondaries.

Interestingly enough, they changed two classes. They classifyed Linguistics courses as Foreign Language - this is a little bizarre, as the classes carried over from the previous cycle in their corrected form. Essentially, AMCAS corrected their corrections. Heh. 😉

It is weird that they'd change it from last year, but FLAN is "Foreign Language/Linguistics". Too bad they didnt' get it right the first time!

I can't believe you guys are getting secondaries already.

AAMC recorded my Social Security Number as 999-99-9999, so the AACOMAS won't accept my MCAT score until I get that rectified.

bwah!!! 🙁 I'm getting jealous!!!!!!!! Still under review, but then again, I have transcripts from 5 different schools toward 3 different degrees + postbacc for them to look over.

They really aren't much help in the timeline area, either. Just the standard "it takes 6 weeks" line when I asked.

Do they do it in bits and pieces or do they finish a file and move on to the next?

We're in essentially the same boat - 4 transcripts towards 4 degrees (undergraduate, graduate, and post-bacc). They finish the file in its entirety before moving on.

Check his signature line for the other tee's. Some of them are quite good (and I admit, some of them I don't get).

I'm thinking about sending a copy of my CV with my secondary (for those that get mailed in) - I'd like to front-load as much information as to what I've been doing, since we only get so many slots on the primary. I'm especially concerned about my AACOMAS application, as I didn't really see any place to put other kinds of experiences (the EC/Volunteering/etc. section didn't really seem amenable to things like panel discussions, publications, presentations, lectures, etc.), unless I severely misread the instructions. We'll see what happens.

Just sent in my AMCAS on Friday! Woohoo!! My dilemma with my postbac advisor was resolved. Because I am a career changer, she keeps thinking that I didn't complete the science pre-reqs way back in the early nineties. Silly advisor, that is why she was telling me not to apply until I got back my summer grades! Anyway, I am still waiting for one transcript to arrive. Once that is in then it is verification time!

Good luck with everyone who already has received their secondaries. I'm gonna do a search now for this on SDN, but I thought I would bring it up here too. Has anyone compiled a list of schools that do and don't screen before sending out secondaries?

Holy crap! I don't know how some of you do this. Like Quix, with all your degrees and inputing in each course. my 300 credits are taking me forever. And I'm only submiting to AACOMAS! I can't imagine doing BOTH! Some of your are really dedicated!!!

I submitted both. I had 89 classes to submit. It was excruciating.

Don't even get me started on LORs.

Good luck everybody! It's all worth it!

last transcript reported as received 6/25/2007. now, the waiting to become verified starts. :scared: Bring on the secondaries🙂 I plan to send out my LORs as soon as I receive a secondary. My projected turnaround is about a week or two for each secondary form so I hope to stay on top of my game well enough to get everything completed by the end of July. Good luck to everyone!

FYI: I submitted AMCAS last Tuesday evening, June 19. The verification email came this morning, Monday June 25. Go AMCAS! Less than a week. When I called them on the phone before, they said projected processing time was 1-2 weeks.

Well, I just completed and submitted (online) the Baylor secondary. I was a little perplexed by a couple of the questions though. They ask for your high school class size, high school class rank, SAT and ACT scores. They do say you can put "N/A" if it is unknown. I put N/A for class rank, SAT and ACT, cause I honestly don't remember. I'm 32 years old. Yeesh. I have some vague recollection of my ACT being around 32 or 34, but I could be wrong. I figure it's better to put N/A then guess.

And I see that Jefferson asks for your SAT and ACT with section break-downs. And they don't say you can put N/A as an acceptable response. Does everyone else keep/have this info? If so, maybe I need to look into getting it. I'm hoping it won't be so important.... Thoughts?

SAT? Really? Geez, that's lame. Like most of us, I took it a decade ago.

On a more positive note, I've been lurking for the past few weeks but am happy to say I've finally joined the ranks of the AMCAS submitted this morning.. Take that, stupid application! +pissed+

Been putting crazy time into the PS and app over the past month, non-stop, and the PS has been in varying informal revisions since January or something. As much time as is feasible for us gainfully-employed non-trads. It's so surreal after all these years to have finally clicked the submit button (and paid the exorbitant fees)..

Now to wait for verification/secondary influx..

Hi Guys,
Anyone looked at Einstein's secondary? Are we supposed to attach a separate sheet for every box we checked yes to, or one sheet for everything?

slightly off topic but..

can I have a popsicle? 😛

(btw, I *do* actually remember my SAT score from 1991.. mostly because I came *this* close to tying my engineer brother's math score which pissed him off to no end.)

i remember i did alright on my SAT's but my effort was own3d by my uncle who aced his math SAT section. s'all good though considering I had just moved to this country a month before taking the exam and had no clue what the SAT was until I found out that I needed the darn thing to apply to college:laugh:

I remember by SAT score, but cannot, for the life of me, remember my GRE score. This seems more than a little weird to me.

Hey, me too! I know I was happy with my GRE score, but I have no clue what it was. But I never wound up needing it, b/c none of the grad programs I applied to required it...

I also remember my overall ACT score, but have no clue what the section breakdowns were.

Actually, I remember my total score... but not the breakdown..

oh my goodness those popsicles look delicious! 😍 *drools* Thank you!

[share bear] Who'd like to split one with me? [/share bear]

most recent hurdle jumped: I have a secondary photo :horns: Got a coworker to snap a couple of me today, played around with them, cropping and minimizing the BRIGHT RED NOSE from yesterday's sunburn.. 😳 And per a couple of SDNers, it's looking good enough to submit. 👍

Tonight I finally submitted AMCAS. It's "Ready for Review." I hope verification comes quickly and goes smoothly.

You know, I had butterflies in my stomach when it came time to hit the submit button. I'm not sure what it was -- maybe the realization that I'm actually applying to medical school and not just talking about it.

Crazy that you guys are getting secondaries already. It's still June!!! :luck:

I got my first (real) secondary yesterday (U Michigan🙂)! I'm about a third of the way done filling it out. Yay!

Good luck everyone!

I'm applying there too! Is their secondary ugly or easy?

Received my first secondary this morning! Already! Aye.. From Columbia.. I'm not even verified yet.. Crazy application fee turnstile..

And you know the best part about the waiting?

That's right: the waiting.

EDIT:

Shameless plug for Depakote

It's like being on the "line ride" at busy amusement parks

That's enough! I am going to pistolwhip the next person who says 'shenanigans!'

SHENANIGANS!!!

But seriously, AMCAS verified me in less than a week after I submitted but I have a few X's to deal with and I can't bring up the page on their website concerning what this means and what I have to do about it. I think my reviewer was taking something. They accepted one economics class as BESS and then gave me a big, fat X for the economics class immediately below it that was also classified as BESS. I know that the grade and hours I entered are correct.
