np rejection letter received. looks to be all downhill from here. i don't get why they would lie about acceptances being given throughout the week. cruel cruel

Perhaps they know about SDN and don't want people jumping to conclusions (whether correct or not) before they have the chance to give them the news.

I know of at least one school that is VERY careful of what they do/don't say over the phone so that applicants here won't "get the news" unofficialy first.

What time was the rejection e-mail sent? At this point, I'll take any e-mail notification. I want closure :bang:

i haven't received my rejection e-mail yet either..are they seriously personalizing all 700+ rejection e-mails as well?? so unnecessary..they should just send out a mass e-mail and get it over with

Yes, they personalized my rejection e-mail

Makes sense, but it would be a lot less deceiving if they just said "we do not give that info out over the phone" what's the point of giving out false info.

Is it possible that maybe they're just releasing the decisions as soon as they can? I mean, why attribute to malice what can be explained by ignorance? Several people were accepted to both HST and NP; maybe as they are choosing one or the other, more seats are opening up and more admissions decisions have to be made. I guess what I'm saying is, maybe they aren't telling us one way or the other because they don't know for sure yet, either. Why else would they stagger the release of decisions?

I wouldn't go as far as "malice" but in general there is no need to have everyone in the office say something different. If they are intentionally misleading then that's really sad on their part. If they are not, then we are all jumping the gun, which happens from time to time 🙂
I guess we'll see and I hope acceptances really are still coming out.

that's why there's a waitlist. i wanted to get my rejection out there b/c i didn't want people to get their hopes up with posts like this. if they really weren't sure yet (which would be ridiculous b/c that means the whole adcom is meeting continuously through the week) there would be no reason to put qualified applicants on the waitlist if all the outright acceptances haven't even been given. please stop getting people's hopes up.

When you guys say "personalized" your letter, do you mean anything beyond "Dear Mr/Ms XYZ"? Do they actually put anything about you?

We send out mass emails all of the time at my school, and there's a very quick and easy way to automatically plug in the name to the to: line. I can't see why that would be a reason holding them up from sending out mass acceptances and rejections unless they did more than the name.

come on guys...i know rejection sucks but seriously acceptances and waitlists are done...yes they've staggered decisions (ie acceptances, rejections and waitlists) like almost every school...but theyve never staggered out acceptances before so why would they do it now? they would have waited the extra few days to release all acceptances by the end of the week if they still had to make decisions or send out acceptances..no reason to give people false hope..if you haven't heard from them by now its a rejection

and i think when the admissions office said there woudl be more acceptances I think he/she was referring to MD/PhD students who still hadnt received their decisions at that time..but MD/PhD have a separate admissions process....but for HST and NP it seems like all acceptances and waitlists have been sent out..and now they're working on sending out rejections to the 700+ post-interviewees..like I said unless someone can call them and get them to explicitly say that "there is still a batch of acceptances for HST/NP that need to be sent out" then its a rejection for those of us left waiting

It seems to me that we are only waiting for rejections at this point. Go back and look at the old Harvard threads. In the past, all acceptances were released on the same day, followed by waitlist and then rejections. Why would this year be different? There have obviously already been a ton of acceptances reported on SDN (mid yesterday) and a few waitlists went (early evening yesterday), so guess what we are waiting for now?

I hope this is not the case, but the only evidence suggesting otherwise is from tenuous and contradictory reports from people who have called their office.

LOL I just received ANOTHER rejection from Harvard...also for HST. They rejected me at 9:51 am today and again at 12:39 pm. Gee thanks guys, way to rub it in.

Edit: The first one has my first and last name, while the second has just my last name. Maybe they wanted to personalize it and forgot to.

I know these rejection letters are all very similar, but I thought Harvard's really was well written, sincere, and showed a lot of class.

Dear Ms. SwineSue,

With sincere regret, I must report that the Committee on Admissions has completed its selection of the class entering in August 2010 and has not been able to offer you a place.

We are grateful to have received applications from so many students like you with excellent intellectual and personal qualities. This year, well over 5000 students applied for the 165 places in the first year class at Harvard Medical School, and we interviewed over 900 candidates. With so many more talented and highly qualified candidates than we could admit, the Committee on Admissions faced a very difficult task.

Although you may be disappointed, my personal wish for you is that you find fulfillment studying medicine at another fine medical school. Perhaps we will have the opportunity to work with you in the future as a resident or fellow.

We thank you for applying to Harvard, and we send you our very best wishes for a successful career.

Sincerely,

Robert J. Mayer, M.D.

Rejected from HMS for NP 🙁 In pain since I loved HMS so much, but life moves on. Congrats to those who got in - good luck & keep the faith for those on the wait list!

I guess this makes my decision easier now 🙂 Guess I'm going to Penn Med!

Info for the data-miners:

Interviewed 2/18. Rejected 3/16 (today) via email @ 3:48 pm. Applied to NP only.

Edit: btw this means my initial theory was right 😛

Rejected at 3:48pm.

Must say one of the nicest rejection letters I have received this season! I am just glad I now have closure from all my schools so that I can make a final decision. Good Luck All! 🙂

rejected from NP via email at 1:48 pm. HMS were by far my best interviews too, ugh bummer.

congrats to everyone accepted! always stay humble!

I haven't heard anything from hms yet...🙁

That's probably because they're sending someone to drive out and tell you in person. I was holding out for that possibility but just got the rejection email myself. Keep up the faith.

Congrats to everyone who got accepted/WL though.

Just got rejected from HMS and from UPenn. I don't know what else to do now... Still waiting on JHU though.
Seriously, this is like crushing a lifelong dream. :diebanana:

Reeeeeeejected! It's been fun, folks. Good luck to all those waiting. I'm gonna have a beer and start making a decision 😳)

got the rejection email pre-interview just now. I'm like thanks, duh, i didnt even interview, lol

is there any reason people wouldn't live in vandy? a friend of mine may get into HBS, in which he may want to room together (if i go as well)...but i dont wanna miss out on the dynamic in vandy...

Central Sq in Cambrige is very convenient, with bus and Harvard shuttle connections making the trip 10-20 min for olds like my friend who has lived there since she started. (NB: I am also old, so this appeals to me. 🙂)

Boo! 😡 All the cool people got the axe...noting irony...weeping at my own bleak fate.

As a married student, it seemed a bit too dormish from my brief encounter (ie shared kitchens etc). Is Vandy even available to married students? Does HMS offer other grad student housing?

Wow, that is a very nice rejection letter. Props to HMS for that.

but vandy is literally across the street! even if you are old, for the first two years, i cant think of anything better...unless you just hate the sharing kitchen/dorm style rooms...

and married would be a problem, too. those rooms are smaaaalllll.

None of the married students live in vandy....its just not practical since the rooms are only singles and, unless your spouse is also a student, they couldnt live here haha. There is grad housing at this place called the trilogy but its mad expensive and I dont think its worth it. I'd just try to rent a place somewhere.

Vandy is mad convenient tho, especially in the dead of winter.

Theres a gym, which is good.

If you dont live in Vandy, well, I would be lying if I said that you probably wouldnt miss out on SOME of the social things that go on here. You can always come over for the big class events (and people do) but its more of a hassle and that always discourages people. And, just as a matter of logistics, you wont be running into your classmates in the hall everyday so yeah, thats a loss of social interaction.

That being said, most of the off-campus kids are just as social etc as people in vandy, it depends on who you are, really.

Yeah, Vandy seems OK, but I haven't lived in dorms for so many years and have a significant other. Plus, would be happier to be in and out of Longwood, as I'm a Cambridge/Somerville girl. Cannot beat the convenience, though, very true.

Rejected! 😱

You mean interviewing is required for acceptance?

🙂

Oh, and where's Bannie?

rejected pre-interview (finally). almost forgot i applied here

There are other graduate student housing in Cambridge and around Boston. This website tell you all about it <http://huhousing.harvard.edu/HarvardUniversityHousing/index.aspx>

Boo! 😡 All the cool people got the axe...noting irony...weeping at my own bleak fate.

 there are some mildly cool accepted people 😛

i thought you were headed for stanford!

 You're right, you and I are totally, mildly cool.

Who knows. I told Nerday Shortay that I wanted to go where she goes, because she made an awesome Facebook post about watching re-runs and drinking responsibly. But, I've heard that Harvard is a good school. 😉

i think i'm fb friends with nerday, look me up

Pre-int reject. Couldn't care less.

But they do have an awesome rejection letter. 👍

Received the nicest "go to hell" letter of the whole cycle. Definitely beats Stanford's 3 sentence letter.

Hey now, there's always residency 🙂. Maybe by then you'll have loved med school, done fantastically, an won't even care anymore. So leave that banana alone!

Got the rejection email this morning. Have fun in Boston, y'all!

HMS rejection letter is nicer than many schools acceptance letters IMO.

I wonder when that second look info is going to come out... it shouldn't be much longer, its less than a month away. I'm starting to try to figure out airline tickets etc. Are most of you planning on going?

Has anyone received the admissions packet or know if it has been sent yet?
