I wonder when that second look info is going to come out... it shouldn't be much longer, its less than a month away. I'm starting to try to figure out airline tickets etc. Are most of you planning on going?

I'm going! Driving from Ithaca, NY

i looked on facebook and there seems to already be a group...i requested to join but haven't been let in yet 😛

I think that was there before HMS even gave offers out this year. If you read the group description carefully, "The group is for any dedicated premedical student who will be a member of the HMS Class of 2014."

Seems more like a fan page rather than a legit group for accepted students.

I think another fb group for HMS 2014 should be made!

alright who's good with facebook? i don't know how to make a group

Bleh. NP Waitlist. Here's hoping I can find a way to rise to the top of that 50 person stack. So you guys should totally focus on all that negativity a few pages back and go somewhere else. I need some movement!!

Congrats to all the accepted students! Quite an accomplishment.

In the meantime, I am going to continue enjoying my time on the FL coast this spring break. Harvard or not, there's still whiskey. And as long as there's whiskey, I'm happy.

For married students I would recommend living in Brookline. There is something for everyone in the area. The Coolidge Corner area of Brookline is is especially nice with lots of shops and restaurants. It's a short walk from HMS and there are plenty of quiet/safe tree-lined streets.

If you're on a budget and willing to have a bit longer commute then you might try for something on the western side of Jamaica Plain.

hey guys,

can anyone comment on the two trips offered before orientation? One is a backpacking trip and the other one is a community service one (sorry i dont have the names with me).

Do most students do these? Is one particularly recommended?

Thanks!

this is a weird question, but can any student tell me if there is cable in the rooms in Vandy? also, is there an option for HD?

just found out they dont have cable in the dorm (the have satellite in the common rooms). wow. what a blow to living in vandy.

Anyone know how much it costs to live in Vandy? And do you just pay for the school year or is a 12 mo lease?

To those of you who were accepted: How soon after you sent in your secondary did you receive an interview invite? I'm trying to see if there is a correlation.

i sent it in the day i got it (sometime in july or august) and didn't get an interview until december

i was complete mid-august, invited late sept to np & hst, interviews nov 6 (np) and dec 1 (hst), only accepted hst

Complete Nov 2 😱 (submitted essay on Oct 31 deadline). Interview Invite in January, interview in February, accepted HST. I put off that essay forever!

Completed early Sept. Interview invite early Dec. Interviewed early Feb.

Has anyone looked at the 2010 HMS match list yet? Anyone have a link to it?

Boo! 😡 All the cool people got the axe...noting irony...weeping at my own bleak fate.

Well the other way I see it is that this lets us mildly cool people represent at all the "big" schools out there! That way, we are guaranteeing coolness across the nation - spreading that coolness around and all that.

my financial aid award is now on my HMS financial aid portal page. *WOW* very generous!

have they had all your stuff for a while? I've done the online stuff and just sent in copies of tax stuff on Monday and I'm wondering what turn around to expect... also if you don't mind sharing, do you think you fell into the middle income category?

yes i fell into the middle income category. here are the dates they show for when they received each piece of the financial aid application:

FAFSA 3/29
Need Access 3/26
Tax Returns 3/24
Institutional Aid Form 3/21

I sent in the FAFSA and Need Access way before the dates they downloaded them, though (in February).

Does anyone know the attire for revisit? I assume casual during the day? But is it business casual for the dinners or just casual? Thanks!

Hi jla314, did they email u when ur fin aid package was uploaded to the website? My file was completed on the 26th, but I have not heard from them yet. Thanks.

Does anyone know if Harvard gives out any merit aid at all?

They did not email me; I just happened to check the website to make sure they had received all my materials, and I saw my package on the front page (towards the bottom) already waiting for me.

Their need-based financial aid is more than generous. Even if they did have merit-based aid, imagine how much of a crapshoot it would be to try to decide who gets it.

Wow, just wow. My financial aid award just came through. It is more than generous.

ugh. so many hiccups regarding my documentation. the wait is killing me!

I'm getting excited for the award info to come through after those last few posts... though I'm not expecting much since my parents are above the middle income cutoff and even though I'm married I'm too young for the age deductions in parent contribution

If you apply a second time, are you more likely to get in that time?

Aren't you in somewhere already?
And to answer your question, no your chances are not improved if you apply the second time. In fact, I would think that you have slightly decreased chances. They rejected you the first time for a reason and unless you addressed whatever they did not like, and significantly improved your application, then there is still no reason to take you in. Unless, the applicant pool that year was a lot more mediocre - which is unlikely to happen.

I agree - since Harvard caps the number of times you can apply to their med school (twice total), I'd guess that they review reapplicants with a good deal of scrutiny, and that being a reapplicant at their school is probably not a good thing. They might have had problems in the past with people continually applying (and being rejected) cycle after cycle, hence the cap on the number of times you can apply.

HMS fin aid is probably one of da best around. Excited to c all of u at revisit! It should be a great group of ppl!

naijaboi - just checked out your mdapps profile. you are amazing! i won't be able to make it to revisit, but if you HMS choose i'd truly look forward to being your classmate.

good luck through the process.

when they say casual during the day, does that mean jeans or dress pants? also is polo shirt or button down shirt?

thanks!

I would also like to know the answer to this 👍

casual is casual......I wore shorts, a t shirt, and flip flops during the day of revisit (it was warm.) From memory, the only thing we needed to dress up for was the dinner (slacks and a button down or polo will do fine). We're also taking y'all out clubbin' so bring some club-appropriate attire 🙂

GET EXCITED EVERYONE! We'll see y'all in a few days.....and welcome to the HMS family!!

To those that have received finaid info, how long did it take from the time you submitted your forms to when the awards popped up on their website??
