Well crap. I'm going to re-email today and call tomorrow/Monday. And the whole point was to have sent it super early! 🙁

Let them know (politely of course 🙂) that you sent it in 2 weeks ago and just want to make sure they received it, hence you are sending it again. It's still pretty early I think.

Yay they got it! Just got an email back that started with "Our apologies for not responding sooner!" That made me smile, and I'm happy that I didn't need to call and pester them.

Hey all! Just so you know, you can now check to see if they received your LOI on your status pages. It's at the bottom on the main page.

keep hanging in there everyone!!

Thanks for the info! Mine says "Applicant update" even though it isn't an update letter. If you wrote an LOI, does yours say anything different under "Type"?

Mine says also says Applicant Update for my LOI.

"applicant update" here too...close enough i guess!

Ok, good to know we all have the same then!

just checkin in to see how folks are doing and if you're all keeping the faith or just tired of playing the waiting game.
what do you think the protocol is for future contact after sending a letter of intent? Are you gonna check in again at any time or just let it ride?
I don't want to be annoying but i wanna make sure they know i'm still interested...

I'm tired of waiting (but this feeling started months ago 😳) but still pursuing this waitlist! I think that if you are on a waitlist at any school, it's wise to err on the side of too much contact rather than too little contact!

Yeah, I'm definitely going to err on the side of too much contact. Sent my LOI, and going to send my update maybe tomorrow. I might make my update and update + repeat of Intent, or I'll send a third letter after the update. Haven't decided yet.

I am tired of waiting (I want to know where I'm going to be so I can start planning my move! 🙁), but I want to at least ride out the first wave of wait list decisions and see what happens.

I would expect to see some movement in the second half of may and early June after folks make their final selections, but i'm not sure why there would be movement after that. what would open spots in mid-june? folks getting in off other waitlists? perhaps deferring for a year?

I've gotta say it's not easy knowing that this is revisit weekend at Penn. really kinda wish i was there. and maybe that it rains the whole time so people hate it and give up their spot!

 Yeah, I'm hoping revisit weekend is awful, somehow, though I'm sure it'll actually be awesome. It's revisit weekend at the med school I work at too (and which rejected me 🙁) so I saw a few people who are obviously here for that when I was out running errands.

I think the majority of movement happens in May and June, but there's always the stories of people getting off wait lists in july and august so it happens. Not sure why though.

happy weekend folks! just checkin in to say hello. it's finally may so perhaps we'll start to hear some news in the next few weeks. much longer than that and i'm gonna wind up with a permanent ulcer.

Can't believe it's already May! Hopefully this waitlist may start to see some movement in the coming weeks :xf:

I'm excited to see the wait lists start moving. Good luck to you guys! :luck: I don't have much hope for myself, but I'm sure some of you will get in.

I'm not sure what to do since I'm leaving the country May 10th and won't be back till June 1st. I'll be giving them my brother's address and I'll have access to email, but should I give them an international phone number?

I guess I'll just overload them with options for how to contact me.

I sent one in February between my Dec. 5th interview and decisions and still got waitlisted so idk if it would have changed anything. Sending another now.

I also sent a letter some time after my interview and was waitlisted. I'm considering sending another. What did u add ot the second letter? Did u write any personal letters to your interviewers or just one to the admissions office?

Just wondering how your seeing updates. My status site just says "Our records indicate that your application is complete, and is currently being reviewed by the Admissions Committee."

Looking at your previous posts, are you possibly mixing up University of Pennsylvania (what this thread is for) and Penn State?

I was waitlisted but invited to Preview.. I went to preview and talked to Gaye and she said that there were about 10 other people waitlisted and invited (including MD/PHD) and she could not say when or if we would hear about openings in the class. She said last year they did not accept everyone that was waitslisted/invited to Preview because the class was over-enrolled. I also know that some people that were waitlisted but weren't invited to preview have been accepted in the past, so I am confused how the waitlist is used.
Either way, good luck to all. :luck:

Sorry... 15 people but 10 that were there. Also, I'm hoping that because they over-accepted last year, they under-accepted this year and will use their waitlist more.

Thanks for the info norty! Very helpful. How was preview by the way? Can you guesstimate how many prospectives attended? Did most seem set on Penn or still deciding?

Even after going through prior years' threads, I don't completely understand how the waitlist is used either. Seems like waitlist + preview applicants have a good chance of getting in (but don't always get in as you said). A few years ago there were applicants who got in off of regular tier 1 before top of tier 1. I agree that it is confusing.

Let us know if you get that magic call from Gaye! :luck:

Preview was awesome (which is both great and not great news) .. From the list of prospectives they gave us there were about 140 prospectives there... most were set on Penn but there was definitely a good number of people that were still unsure. I'll let you know if I hear anything more.. hopefully there will be some movement in the coming weeks!

Sleepy425 has posted his acceptance to the MSTP.
Probably, he was a “Tier 1 plus invited to the preview” but did not attend the preview.

lol, yes, I was tier 1 and invited to preview. I couldn't go to preview, but they had another revisit day the next weekend for MSTP people who couldn't attend preview. After going to the revisit, I was sold, and committed to attending if I were accepted. I got the call the next day. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

hey guys! I just withdrew from Penn...amazing, amazing place but I decided to head back to NYC for the next four years.

Good luck to everyone waiting!

I was on the regular Tier 1 Waitlist. I sent a letter of intent and was called by a member of the admissions team yesterday and had a letter sent to me today. The list is beginning to move!!! Good luck to all in the next few days. There is no better way to get their attention than to show sincere interest and commitment.

Congrats Matli! you must be on cloud 9 right about now. If you don't mind me asking, when did you send in your letter? Did you do anything to follow it up?
here's hoping that a few others of us on the boards will be joining at Penn in August!

Congrats!! I guess us regular tier 1 kids do have a chance!

Hope we hear more good news soon :xf:

I wrote one directly after I was waitlisted and then another one at the beginning of this week. Make sure they know you are committed

happy monday folks. how's that wait going for ya?
From what I hear, the Admissions office is currently weeding their way through withdrawals and students who didn't put a deposit down etc. They will then assemble a list of those students who have shown they are still in interested in Penn and give that to Gaye Sheffler who will hopefully begin to make some calls either at the end of this week or early next week.
I'm not sure that this information is all that helpful one way or another, but I figured I would keep everybody in the loop.

Any information at this point is helpful! Out of curiousity, did you hear this from the admissions office?

I did. That's what the secretary at the office told me.

hi all,
I'm happy to say that I just got a phone call from Gaye Sheffler offering me a spot in the class of 2013! 😀
On behalf of everybody else on this list I asked what kind of progress was being made and she said they were still filtering through withdrawals and were just beginning to pull names from the list, so hopefully more of us will be getting calls in the next couple of weeks.
Good luck!

Good luck to those still waiting :xf::xf::xf:

Thanks to everybody for the congratulations. I really appreciate it. Considering that they are still getting withdrawals in the mail, yet they have already accepted 2 MD's of the waitlist from SDN, I would say it seems like the waitlist is moving this year. Good news for everybody here! When I spoke to Gaye yesterday, I got the sense that the biggest thing they were looking for is folks who were really into penn, so don't be afraid to restate your interest even if you've already sent an LOI. When she offered me a spot she started by saying that she knew that a lot of time had gone by between when I wrote my LOI and now and so she totally understood if I had made other plans or my feelings had changed. Bottom line, if your feelings haven't changed, I would find a way to let the office of admission know that. Good luck everybody!

I've been lurking for a long time... especially on this thread.

I got the magic call from Gaye about 40 minutes ago. I am losing my mind.

I wanted to let all you all know that she said there are currently "slots available".

Don't give up hope. Make sure that they know you're interested. It seems that a big reason this happened was because I called on Friday to check up on my update letters and new LOR.

I sent in a LOI in early May. Yes, it was a little late... but so it goes.

Congrats facemelt! If you don't mind sharing, were you on the "regular tier 1" waitlist or "top of tier 1"?

I was on regular tier 1.

Linguini, I saw that you got into Cornell off the waitlist. So did I! I hope that the luck I had is transferred to you too.

I can't stress this enough... reiterate your interest in the school.

weird... i just called the admissions office to check to see if they had received my update which i sent in at the end of last week and they said that "there has been no waitlist movement yet" ... bad sign for me? or has anyone else been told this?

i just called and they said there was no movement too...

Was waitlisted, reg tier 1.

I have officially withdrawn my application to Penn, in a move to begin having a totally carefree/stress-free summer.

Best of luck to the rest of ya

Good luck wherever you end up!!

Any other news, fellow waitlisters?

Hey- I'm interested in applying to Penn. Does anyone know if all lectures are mandatory?
