*EDIT: I realized I titled this with the wrong years, but it won't let me change it 🙁 I guess my mind is still on last year's app season!

I know apps for these programs aren't due for a bit, but it's never too early to be organized! I should note that I am applying to Ed.S. programs, but from my understanding, admissions is very similar (apart from research background) across programs within a department, and there's not many school folk on the MA board, so I've started this here.

I'm applying to:
University of Delaware
University of Connecticut
University of Massachusetts - Amherst
University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill
Winthrop University
Wayne State University (back up, can live at home)
Middle Tennessee State University (I currently live in Nashville)

(I applied to Michigan State University's PhD program last fall and was accepted, so I can answer questions about that too. And UVA's school/clinical program and was rejected).

My strengths: A strong GPA, solid GRE scores, a research background, paid experiences with children (camp counselor, nanny, mentor), a psych undergrad degree, heavily researched the field (in regards to public school practice) to discuss exactly why I want this and why I'd rock at it.

My weaknesses: A year off between undergrad and grad (I'm enrolled but will be withdrawing from a totally different PhD program) that won't necessarily involve anything psychology/child/education. No mental health or evaluation/assessment experience.

Ooh, a school psych thread!

I'd rather not say the schools I'm applying to--I've been pretty open about everything else here, so I'm keeping that mum. I'm applying almost exclusively to school psych PhD/PsyD programs.

Strengths: Good GRE score (for the programs I'm applying to anyway), decent GPA, strong psych GPA (like everyone), lots of research experience, paid research experience, conference presentations, peer-reviewed publication(s?), allegedly a good writer (YMMV on this), good clinical experience, lots of teaching experience, strong passion for what I want to do/study

Weaknesses: I have child experience, but it's probably not as extensive as most; a visible disability (but considering that I'm applying to study disability psych, it would be an ironic reason for rejection 😉); most of my research experience isn't directly related to school psych (though a lot of it has educational and/or disability bents to it) or with children; applying straight out of undergrad

I'm interested in applying to school psych programs. I'm still unsure at this point whether to go PhD or Ed.S (if it's a lot harder to find positions without the doctorate, I know it varies by district).

I'm going to apply to Tufts and Northeastern (has both a PhD and masters program). Does anyone know anything about other programs? I'm curious about the Columbia Teacher's School School Psych program.

I'm applying to a lot of school programs, too. I was looking at Columbia but they don't have very solid funding. It's a decent program, though.

Columbia U has the same problem most NYC school psych programs have. Poor funding.

Most phd students at Columbia self finance (quite expensive, considering tuition + living in NYC). Yeshiva U is the same way.

Fordham and St. Johns in NYC tends to provide funding for many, though not all doctoral students - and funding does NOT cover all tuition or living expenses (that is my understanding - I did not apply to either, but have met friends/colleagues at both).
