Does Stanford give pre-interview rejections? Not saying my app is that bad, but I'm wondering why I haven't gotten one yet, lol.

i believe i've heard of a few ppl getting the sad news. its only the hardest school to get into so most won't get one....no matter how cool we think we are. 🙂

better yet, i saw someone mentioning that interviewees are reviewed in batches for a final decision.

any ideas how often these batches are reviewed??😕
yeah. any early interviewees know about this?

btw just curious, but how far are interviews taken at this point?

I interviewed in early December. They told us we'd hear back by March, but it looks like 4-6 weeks is about the time frame you're looking at. Maybe less, since their office was closed for winter break during my waiting period.

congrats man. Stanford is sick

They do. Last year's thread had some rejections going out in January and February in batches I believe. Stanford offers interview invitations through mid-March (they interview til April). There's still plenty of time. Also, judging from last year's thread....once acceptances started going out...new interviewees had to wait between 3-6 weeks for decisions...so the process speeds up slightly. Stanford interviews less students each week than most schools (~20-25)...so if they do monthly meetings they only have about 100 applications to consider which is far less than other committee meetings at peer institutions who are rolling.

Anyway, I'm excited about my interview in 2 weeks! Did get off the phone with my pre-med advisor and she noted that Stanford hadn't accepted a student from my college in quite some time, so I am a little discouraged.

Don't be discouraged about them not accepting from your college in a while. I think that actually provides a slight benefit to you, since they like you enough to give you an interview.

Do they reject post-interview? Or do they only waitlist?

I just got waitlisted, and I'm wondering about my chances.

Do you mind sharing when you interviewed? I'm not sure if they reject post interview...but I could be wrong.

hey,

i interviewed in early december too. no word yet. i've been checking my phone/mailbox/email compulsively. i'm normally very chill but stanford has made me neurotic!!!!!!! judging by this thread, i'm not the only one.🙂

early-mid december interviewees - have you heard any news, positive or negative?

it says four to six weeks on the school website and it's been six weeks.... does this mean a march rejection is in store? or are they still mulling over the december crew? or did the land lady secrete away my mail? or should i just mellow out and quit analyzing this??

also, have some info to report in an update. should i send it, or is it too late? feedback appreciated

they do reject post interview. a lot of waitlist movement. they like accept 2-3 people at a time, they are very careful with their acceptances, to make a class of exactly 86, lol. so a lot of waitlist movement at the end. also they interview till april, and send out invitations till late march. so veryyyyy careful process

to someone above. they do reject pre-interview, but i think most of them go out in feb/march. so they wait, i think cuz the director reviews alll people that they want to deny, just to make sure, only school i think that is this careful

Hey, anyone who's written an "in the area" letter: did you get a response back? I emailed them about a week ago and no response/acknowledgement 🙁

The best acknowledgement of course, would be an interview invite popping up 😀 😀

did you send the email to the admissions office address? i sent an email recently, regarding a different matter, and haven't heard back yet either. maybe things are crazy busy there right now.

yep, I sent it to: [email protected]

they probably are quite busy now, since they're making the first decisions and all!!

:luck: to you 🙂

Also be weary of the fact that Stanford does not accept pre-interview updates...so I don't know how diligent they are about reading email inquiries sent to the admissions office if a candidate hasn't been invited for interview yet.

Good luck!

After I got invited for an interview at UCLA for early Feb, I sent an "in the area" email to the above Stanford address. It's almost 2 weeks later and still absolutely no reply back. The silence is deafening.

At this point, however, I'm probably just going to withdraw from both UCLA and Stanford. It's just way, way too expensive for me to consider flying out to the west coast twice, especially after already attending 14 interviews. I definitely would have checked out UCLA if they had accommodated my requested interview day of any day but Tuesday... needless to say, they gave me a Tuesday interview. Thanks UCLA for caring.

dont bite the hand that feeds you.

Hello all,

I just received my interview offer (email) today, and will be going on March 12th.

For those of you who had interviewed at Stanford before, any advice? (where to stay, any school specific preparations, etc)

Much thanks!

Hi Geezo. May I ask when you were complete? I really want an interview from stanford and have been just waiting and waiting. Thanks!

Stay with a student host. Arrive the day before so that you can go to classes. You probably won't have time on the interview day. Just read your application and the Stanford website. Ask questions.

I LOVE STANFORD! I was so impressed after my interview day. Admission Committee, please give me an acceptance! 😀 😍

Congrats! I'm going next week and booked a night at the Hotel Cardinal (it's not super expensive, and you can walk to the train station or medical campus from the hotel...I mainly picked it off location from the fact that I won't have a car). I also arranged for a host as well to avoid having to take a red-eye back home (there are instructions in the email, but I think it's better to just contact the coordinators directly via email instead of using the online form). As I haven't interviewed yet that's all the advice I can give.

AMCAS in early Aug (forgot the exact date). Secondaries confirmed on 9/26. When I checked the interview booking website, every weekday after the 12th in the month of March had spots available. So there are still interview spaces available. I wish you best of luck!

I will look into this. I'm pretty hyped too. Best of luck to you. Congrads to those already accepted!

Thanks for the info! I completed 9/14. Congrats on getting the interview, hope you do well. 🙂

Wow! Accepted 1/21 after a 1/8 interview. Just under two weeks. I guess anything's possible... timing seems to be random. Infinitely earlier than expected, but so happy about it!

Congrats bfg9000 and other recent acceptees!

waitlisted here in nyc via snail mail today. 🙁 very bummed. this is my first choice....

i want to come back to the BAY AREAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!! rahhhhhhhh

for others anxiously watching their phone and mailbox, i interviewed in early december. the letter was dated and post marked 1/19

Also just accepted from an early December interview and absolutely thrilled - I will almost certainly be there next year.

For those on the waitlist (green onions, my heart goes out to you from somewhere in nyc as well)- I think there was significant movement last year, so definitely keep the admissions office up to date on everything you are doing and don't hesitate to let them know it is your top choice in a professional, well-written update letter (but only if it truly is!) Stanford seems to pride itself particularly on its risk-takers - people who will be leaders in medicine in entrepreneurial endeavors, research, innovation, etc. I think it helped me to know exactly how I wanted to make use of Stanford's resources in this way...

Just got an interview invite! Was complete in early August...there is still hope! =)

I have an interview this Friday. Any last minute advice? Thanks!!

Congrats sophia!! thats awesome and thanks for posting this i was just wondering if stanford goes in order and this gives me a little hope now! i reallyyyy hope i get an interview here too :luck::xf::xf:

Hoprefully they are still giving new invites...

Yes there definitely are. They seem to have handed out invites a little earlier this year compared to last year (big batch in December that filled up February)...but judging from recent invites there are still interviews open between mid-March and April. Stanford interviews late, so there's definitely a big possibility for anyone still waiting to hear. They were handing invites out til mid-March last year.

Good luck and congrats on your success so far.

Omg, Stanford = Amazing + Friendly.

EDIT: Let me elaborate by saying that my Stanford interviewers were great! They take really good care of their students, even their interviewees!

that's not much of an elaboration, lol. describe please...😀

just wondering if anyone has received responses to emails...I guess they must be really busy, but I emailed them last week and still no reply 🙁

Have you already interviewed? If not, they state on their website they do not respond to emails from people who have no been invited to interview.

This is not true. You are welcome to contact the Admissions Office by email or phone, but they will not respond to questions regarding the status of your application. They also do not accept updates from applicants who have not been invited to interview. But if you have any other questions, try calling them again.

Well basically, everything is done 1-on-1 or 1-on-2, that's it. They first show you around the admissions office and take your picture. Then they meet with you individually to see if you have any questions about the school. Then they let you choose what you want on your sandwich and you can have any drink you want. Next comes the individualized financial aid overview followed by your interviews. Both interviewers were very cordial and relaxed. I happened to be sick that day so my interviewer gave me some hot tea (even after I said 'no thank you' twice). : )

Yeap sounds about right. That's how it was when I interviewed there last year. But when they gave me the lunch menu to choose from, I thought it was just a lunch box with a bit of food here and there so I just checked all the options. It turned out that each item was basically a meal by itself. It was kinda embarrassing cuz I had like 5 rolls of sushi, a couple boxes of salad, and some kind of chicken with rice. I got to bring the leftover home for dinner so it wasn't too bad.
