I have been told by people close to adcoms that some schools will count a long turnaround for a secondary as a negative mark on an application. I don't know if Stanford does this however. If the school is telling you to get it done soon, I wouldn't recommend waiting anyway.

there are so many factors that go into a secondary turnaround, the least of which is lack of interest in the school (why would you apply if you didn't care?). For a school to hold it against you is pure conjecture, and they wouldn't do that because (a) it's unfair to applicants who had a legitimate reason for holding off for >2 weeks, and (b) they don't have the time/patience to try to figure out why we submitted so late. Just because we sit here and tried to read the minds of adcoms doesn't mean they do the same for us.

All right, I'm sorry. You don't have to get so pissed at me. I was just trying to offer some advice that I've been told by former adcom members. If you don't like what I offer, then ignore it.

sorry if that sounded like I was pissed... I didn't mean for it to sound like that! Just trying to appease the others 🙂
In any case, if you heard that straight from the horse's mouth, then obviously there's some merit to it... at least at THAT school

Hmm, I haven't received this "reminder email" everyone is talking about, and I haven't submitted the secondary either. Is it possible that you guys received it because you haven't created a secondary application account yet, or maybe haven't logged in for a while?

me neither, so I decided to submit it before they could get it to me :meanie:

I've made an account. I've even filled everything out other than the essays. I'm not too worried about it though. Sure they might frown upon waiting too long, but I don't think 3-4 weeks is unreasonable anywhere. If it starts getting to be like 2 months (which, gulp, I may have let 1 or 2 get that bad), then that's when it might hurt your application. And even then, I can't see it being a real dealbreaker. But heck, I honestly don't know a thing.

I've been told by all of my advisors, by my premed committee, and by my undergrad's office of career services that a 2 week turnaround is the etiquette to follow...If Stanford is sending out reminder emails after 2 weeks, it sounds like they take this etiquette seriously. I wouldn't mess with it!

Maybe they only send reminders to the applicants they are interested in :x

17 day turnaround, no reminder email.

My bad, just found that complete email. They sent the email on 8/4

Hey guys,
just wondering how long it took you to get the Stanford secondary after you're verified...I got verified on 8/18 and have already received quite a few other secondaries but not this one...I know it's only a few days but I'm getting impatient already 😛

I think 1-2 weeks has been the average. I got mine at about 2 weeks. Good luck!

I got verified last week, and got the secondary the next day. But you should try to log into the website, it may work. Or check your spam filter...

How are you guys approaching the first essay you don't have some really unique personal story? Is it okay to talk about volunteering activities, research, and etc (like a mini personal statement)?

I turned in my supplemental application on the 6th of August, yet it still doesn't show me as complete. They say that they still haven't received my letters or recommendation even though Stanford gets their letters from AMCAS. Have any of you guys had this problem?

stanford doesn't get letters from amcas... you need to sent it separately through interfolio or something

crap my status page says letter package received but the individual letters that i listed are not! my school just puts those individual letters together and sends them i hope they can figure it out! anyone in the same boat got their status changed later?!

So what's the best way to send the AMCAS letters to Stanford? It took long enough for my recommenders to upload their letters, so if there's a way I can take of it, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

I sent mine through Interfolio earlier this week, and within 24 hours, Interfolio had sent them and Stanford had uploaded the confirmation on the website.

I submitted mine yesterday, and got marked complete today 🙂. They had already received my letters on August 10th.

I think it would be better to focus on one experience/activity that can show you as a unique applicant in terms of lessons you have learned from it, and how it can prepare you for medicine. You might want to write it from the perspective of you being able to contribute to the diversity of the school because of the experience.

I'll need to open a $19 Interfolio account right? Also, will l need my recommenders to re-upload their stuff, or is there a way I can transfer from AMCAS to Interfolio? I wish I had realized this stuff earlier, but oh well.

Did you get a committee to write you a letter? They probably used interfolio already to send letters to AMCAS so you can just ask them to send them to Stanford as well. My school did this free of charge once I sent them a copy of my verified AMCAS application.

Complete today! Does anyone know how many interviews they give out/how long it takes for them to invite people?

fingers crossed!

From the Stanford Admissions website: "The earliest notifications regarding an interview invitation will begin in mid October and continue through April."

And, according to wikipedia: "In 2008, 6,567 people applied and 473 were interviewed for 86 spots."

Crazy!

From the 2010 Stanford complete email:

1. Invitations to interview are made from July through March.

2. Our interview season is from October through April.

I just got the email from Stanford to fill out their secondary and send letters. I have interfolio, can I just send them electronically? It doesn't specifically mention electronic delivery of LORs in the instructions from Stanford (only a physical mailing address), but Interfolio seems to have an electronic "address" for LORs in their database.

Is it ok to just use Interfolio and send them electronically?

Edit: Sorry for wasting space -- a bit deeper in the application they mention Interfolio, so I'm just going to send them electronically.

What about Virtual Evals? Would that work for Stanford?

yes my school sends letters through VE - and Stanford got it in 2 days (uploaded friday, they received it today - tuesday)

Interview invite. 🙂 Have to call and set it up between 7:30 and 2:30 PST, and they interview any weekday for candidates east of the Mississippi (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday for those to the west).

Now can I call the UCs and say I'll be west of the Mississippi sometime soon? I guess potential savings on plane tickets might outweigh potential awkwardness/crushingness of the conversation...

congrats!!!

when were you complete?

congrats. you IS or OOS? does stanford favor IS? i forgot

I'm OOS. Not sure if they favor IS at all. I'm really far west of the Mississippi, which is why I'm wondering about whether/how to inform other schools in the area that I'll be there an interview.

Congrats on the interview 🙂 I'm out OOS also and just submitted my secondary application tonight (they sent me the email two days ago).

Hopefully I'm as lucky as you 😛

Yay, thanks. Complete 8/8.

Congratulations, that is awesome! I was complete 8/9, and so I have to check my email even more neurotically now. I'm trying really hard not to get my hopes up..

Congratulations premad!!! I am glad they are finally reviewing apps. I only recently submitted the secondary, but this school is more than a dream to me. I hope I at least get a chance to speak with the committee 😍

in reviewing the apps. They do not follow any type of time line except that they interieview till March/April.

Congrats Premad! but there shouldn't be any "crushingness" of conversation with the UC's if you just tell them you were the first SDNer to get the stanford nod of approval.

LOL, thanks, I'll play the SDN card and see how it all pans out. Maybe I can drop your name too, as my sage interwebs advisor?
