Does anyone know if Stanford is okay with people sending In-the-area emails?

Just curious...

they seemed very friendly, even though they could not accommodate me

woah two invites today and one of them is STANFORD!! I am very excited about this one - anyone going on Dec 16?

What email did you send it to?

Whichever e-mail address is linked through your status update page. It's a generic one, but a real person checks it. I got a response within an hour or two.

Congrats to all those who received interview invites today 👍! Would you mind posting when you were complete for all us still-waiting-to-hear applicants? Thank you!

I was complete last week (11/15)... I'm really surprised that they got back to me so quickly. really excited.

lmao, it's hilarious that you haven't gotten an invite from Stanford or Brown. It's ridiculous how this process works sometimes. That said, neither of us can really complain lol.

I think a lot more of it has to do with which faculty members are reviewing your application and how quickly they do so (and where you fall in their pile). I doubt Stanford will sit on decisions for a ton of applications (a few may be put aside to compare to other applicants -- but it wouldn't make sense to do this for a lot of people given the applicant pool). So if you don't have a response yet, there's a high probability an interview decision hasn't even been considered yet.

That's just my thought on the process (there's also a link that was posted earlier in this thread with screen shots of the system used by Stanford that seems to indicate this is the case)... At least thinking about it this way can ease some nerves hopefully 🙂

neeevermind. found it. wish i hadn't. terrifies me to think of my educational history plastered up like that. i think in my mind i just had an amorphous idea of the review process that amounted to something like this

Wait. Has Stanford even rejected anyone yet? I've been complete since like early August and still haven't heard anything. Someone must have looked at my app by now (and likely passed on it). It's been over 4 months!

I dont think anyone has been rejected yet! and didnt the secondary came out in august? how has it been over 4 months for most of you?!!!!

can u post the link here?

Woops 3 months. Getting my months confused now. I was complete August 11th, submitted August 10th. So it's been a bit more than 3 months now.

yea im in the same boat.. submitted a few days after you.. stanford is definitely taking its time with us 😏

I was complete 8/3, so next week will be 4 months for me. and i do believe stanford has already sent out rejections (check this thread and mdapps)

They have only rejected people with in the area emails. I don't think they have sent massive rejection letters.

Here's the link... See the "due dates" on the user home screen shot... Then everyone has to pass to committee... It just seems there are a lot of stages for the application to pass through before a final decision is made. People who pass quickly, probably have quick faculty reviewers, or are expedited for a random reason.

What does it mean that they have only rejected people with in-the-area emails? They only sent people rejections if those individuals had emailed them that they would be in the are?

I ask because I just sent an in-the-area email yesterday. They wrote back and asked for my reason for visiting. When I told them I would be visiting family, I received no response.

lol. wouldnt it be funny if they got back to you and said you were rejected? loolz.

hopefully they give u an interview though !👍

I guess what I was trying to say was that the people who have been rejected were people that had some sort of interviewing restriction time. Also if you look at some of the other rejections on MD apps, they were for MD-PhD not regular MD.

I just wish they would send a rejection letter if they already know that they don't want to interview you. There is no point in continuing to hope for an interview when that is not going to happen. It is my understanding that they have not rejected people, but I could be wrong.

Does anyone on this thread know someone who has been rejected via snail mail or email without having contacted the committee first?

Rejected MSTP today. Sadness, it was my first choice...but life moves on : ) I'm still hoping for an MD interview!

Hi LSU, what did you mean by "you almost got an interview" on the in the area email? Also, what do most people write when sending these? I have my first west-coast interview at UCSF and would like to email Stanford (only other west coast school), but what do you say, "If you are thinking of offering an invitation, could it be during these dates?" I realize these are common emails, but I have no idea what people do for them. Thanks for the help!

Follow up question, does anyone find it weird that we can see all the interview dates available? Can we just schedule one and then have them tell us we aren't allowed? Has anyone tried this?

i dont see interview dates (where are you looking?), so maybe they sent you an invite and it went to your spam or something?

When I open my status page... I never got an email so am nervous to ask...

yeah i def don't see interview dates on my status page, go ahead and call them up

hmmm i can't access the entire med school website, let alone the status page.

Okay, so I called and got an interview. I checked spam and trash, but no luck... soo, if you are like me and rarely check status, you might want to do it more often. Either way very excited!

Congratulations! Wow, what a way to find out you got an interview at Stanford. Do you mind sharing when you were complete?

I think you probably received the interview invite very recently. This happened to me last year too. I didn't get an email about it, but I got notification in the mail about a week or two later. Congrats! Stanford is an AMAZING place.

My computer crashed, does anyone have the link to the status update page?

Okay, I would rather not have known that Stanford can invite for interviews without an e-mail or letter. I'm checking my status page a ba-jillion times a day.

ah!!!!!!!!!!!! omg! i got an invite too! and it's been in my spam for a while!!!!!! ah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! omg i'm so happy and shocked! so so shocked!

EDIT: oh, and i was complete in september.

Congratulations NotSur. 🙂

So, I also found out about my interview by the status page and never received an email invite. I called today and they re-sent the email invite. It must be some tech error. Because after receiving the second email, I checked my spam, trash (which I have not emptied since they first sent the invite), and inbox, and I still could not find the first email.

How did you check whether you had an invite? I went to check my status and saw this message:

This site only indicates whether your application is complete and ready for review. No final decisions are made available online.
