wow, i'm really starting to worry. by this time last year I had completed all three interviews WITH LOWER STATS than I have with this cycle. I've only heard from Houston for an interview so far, no one else. I got the letters that they got everything, so I guess I just have to wait.

hope you will hear soon from other two schools. when is your Houston interview?

Alright, got my second interview invite - San Antonio Sept. 29th!! 😀

To give some reference for others, they sent me a letter postmarked Aug 11th saying they received everything. The interview invite was postmarked Aug 26th.

Just out of curiosity, did any of you guys apply to out of state schools. I really want to stay in TX but so far have only had one interview (at SA) and think I should finish my out of state apps.

I didn't apply out of state, but if I get rejected again i will. Hey, danny, have u gotten any invites this years? its so weird, it seems like all of us who interviewed last yr, haven't been invited yet this yr. I guess, they want us to add something more to our new app. so, i re-took the DAT. I guess its wait and see now...

not yet. I think they don't like me. 🙁

I applied to three out-of-state schools, just to improve my odds of getting in to dental school this cycle. If I were more confident with my stats, I would have liked to apply strictly to the Texas schools - which would have saved me a good deal of money. My plan is if I get invited for interviews at all 3 texas schools (only waiting on Houston now), I will withdraw 1 or 2 of my out-of-state applications and avoid any additional costs. I love Texas, the schools are great, as well as cheap, and Ill be close to home- why would I want to go anywhere else? Good luck and hopefully we all get into the Texas schools of our choice! 🙂

think this way, the school we got invited last year, already know us ( for me San Antonio).I won't be suprised if they invite me later . But what I am interested is Baylor and Houston. It looks they are not interested to me and time is passing very fast...

i know how u feel, danny (houston for me, sa for u). I'm like freaking out cuz its freaking Sept already, but at the same time, i didn't get my app in until 9/19 last yr and interviewed in Oct and Nov. BUT, our apps have been sitting on their desks since June 18ish, which makes me believe they have put us on the reject pile 😡. but i am trying real hard to stay positive. it aint over til its over, danny, which for us will be dec 1st. they can't possibly hold our apps for 6 months and then give us an interivew.

Houston and San Antonio are ok. they give acceptance after Dec1 but Baylor almost is full by Dec1. if we don't get invitation from Baylor before novamber, I think game is over for Baylor! lets keep our finger crossed 👍

I don't know how many of you have already seen this but Baylor has posted their pre-matriculation report for the entering class of 2008. Here is the link: http://www.tambcd.edu/education/admissions/pdfs/newclassdata0708.pdf

They accepted 100 students, 6 more than the year before. The average GPA went down very slightly. The DAT AA went down and the PAT actually went up considerably. (Hopefully that continues because it bodes well for me lol!) They accepted exactly 50 males and 50 females. I guess yall can check it out for yourselves.

thanks for the post! Now if only they would grant me an interview

how many people do you think actually gets accepted (not enrolled) in each school?

from ADEA book, about 250 people gets interviews from Texas dental schools (each) but I'm pretty sure people applying in Texas are applying to all 3 dental schools. so then probably 200 out of those 250 people are same people getting interviews at all 3 schools and each dental school has class size of about 80-ish.

since many people get into more than just one school, do you think they accept way more than 100?

does anyone have any information about this?

At my Houston interview, they told us last year they accepted roughly 150 people to fill all their spots by matriculation.

Does anyone know the chances of getting accepted at Baylor once you are granted an interview for a TX resident? I think applicant to enrolled is 9:1 but how about interviewee to enrolled? Thanks!

I'm in the same exact position! Really want to stay in TX, only SA interview so far... and trying to decide if I should finish my out of state apps too...

I would finish your out-of-state applications sooner rather than later. A lot of schools are already filling up pre-December interviews. The amount of money you spend to complete these applications means nothing in the long run if you get accepted somewhere this year.

you are SO right... it's the worth the $ just in case.. thanks a bunch mamelons!

Does SA really have 162 accepted students? I'm thinking that might be but then how come Baylor and Houston list as only 84 (in state)?

I don't think the information is correct. I think the schools only submit what they want and the people put the ADEA guide together with whatever they have, whether it is right or wrong.

I interpret it as Baylor as 84 spots filled by residents. They probably accepted more than this to fill those spots. Not many though, because I have heard they fill majority of the class with December 1st acceptances.

San Antonio does not have 148 enrolled in their class. In my class, Class of 2011, we have 95 people... 7 of which I are non-residents. I think the 148 is the total number of acceptances it took to fill the class. I think last year, the list they had of the December 1st acceptances had 110 or so people on it. They know from previous experience that not all 110 will accept and ultimately attend. So as people deny their acceptance they accept another person... which is where the 148 comes from. I believe the incoming class this year has 96 students.

Also, in response to another post I read... not as many people get accepted to multiple schools as you might think. There are very few in my class who got into to all 3 Texas schools, and then a larger number that got accepted to 2 schools, but there is a fair number that it was their only acceptance. Some people only apply to one school too... they have a spouse who attends school here as well, or something of that nature.

Thanks Mamelons!

That sounds about right.... whatever the case with multiple acceptances, it looks like once we are granted an interview, our chances are better than 3:1 and I like those odds 🙂

There were 120 names on the Dec 1 list.

Has anyone been to any texas interviews....care to share your experience?

mine are coming up this next week 😱

TMDSAS received my LORs on September 11, 2004..

Hopefully the schools will receive it soon!!

I called SA to reschedule my interview some time late August or early September, and they told me they would send me a letter in the mail with the new date.... It hasn't arrived yet.

I hate mail.

Hurricane Ike tore up my roof.

Hey everyone, please don't laugh at my silly question, I honestly need help. I am about to answer this question of the tmdsas:

describe any personal characteristics and/or important or challenging experiences you have had that will contribute to the diversity of or provide educational benefits to the student body

I thought about writing about my experience with the dat, since it took me a long time to get it done, 2years, longer than most students, not because of any hardships in my life but I was just simply studying and studying and not getting the scores I wanted, but I persevered until I was able to achieve a good score, I think. so I was wondering if I can write about my perseverance since I really struggled with it and I feel I have gained lots of personal strenght from it, but I was thinking, may be this isn't a good topic to write about since they may think "she took 2 years just to do her dat, who knows how long will she take to do her dental boards exams, which are much harder than the dat!!---reject" , so I don't know what to do

I took the dat only once and these are my scores:
AA 19 TS 21 PAT 16
an my GPA are overall 3.2 and Science 3.2

please help, thanks

You don't have to answer that question on the application if you don't want to. I didn't when I applied, and was accepted to all 3 schools.

On another note, I would not mention your DAT in this section. I do not think it is wise to highlight this given the reasons you have stated. Everyone has to take the DAT to get accepted, and in my opinion, is not a unique or challenging experience. I think they are referring to difficult background growing up, raising a family while in school, things like that. Just my personal opinion though.

Do get your application submitted ASAP though... interviews are filling up fast.

any interview cancelation in Houston because Ike?

Hi all! Looks like on top of the craziness of applying to dental school some my fellow Texan predents have been affected by Hurricane Ike! Sure hope that all is ok with everybody... just wanted to send out my heartfelt best wishes to all!!!

seriously, Im beginning to worry

Well I guess Houston's got an excuse but what are the other schools doing? It seems like nobody's heard from them in awhile. Maybe the pool here on SDN just isn't big enough though.

Hi everyone!!
i hope everyone is safe from the hurricane!
just a quick question.
i was just wondering if Houston has specific date of the week they usually interview people. like San Antonio interviews every monday and baylor interviews every wednesday...
i'm planning on a trip and need to buy an air plane ticket soon.
just in case i get a interview from Houston😀, i would like to avoid the date.
if anyone knows! plz lemme kno!!! thanx🙂

Baylor interviews on Friday also I think, that's when my interview is.

San Antonio is transitioning to a interim Dean of Student Affairs -- that might be part of it... I have no idea though.

I am a bit confused about the tmdsas and texas schools, when the schools say the deadline is October 1 does that mean your complete application should be at tmdsas by October 1 or at the school by October 1 ??

please someone reply asap, thanks

I received an email on August 8, 2008 confirming the receipt of my application. I had an interview invitation sent out for me on September 2, 2008 (I didn't know about this until today! I learned my lesson to check my Spam/Junk Mail daily!!). The interview is scheduled for this Monday, September 22, 2008. My application was received on June 18, 2008 and was processed on June 25, 2008.

Good luck and best wishes to all!!!! 👍

Fresh off my Baylor interview, I thought I could leave some feedback for those yet to interview. Four baylor hopefuls arrive at 9:15 and start interviewing immediately and four others arrive at 10:30 and will interview after the tour. As far as the campus and curriculum, Baylor is outstanding. I personally loved the setup and the students I met. The interviews were relaxed and seemingly went very well. Questions were run of the mill with few curveballs. The dean of admissions, Dr.Miller, is very sweet and was a pleasure to talk to. My other two interviewers were nice as well and one guy was very interested in research so be ready for that. My main advice is not to worry and to be yourself - show them character.

Good luck fellow texans! 🙂

I hate to be a Debbie-Downer on here, but I need to vent before I kill something or someone. I took the DAT today and BOMBED the piece of @#$& test! Ouch! So much for starting d-school next year... Even though I interviewed last year on my scores, I retook the DAT because I wasn’t accepted and was asked to improve my science scores. Guess what… THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN! I get to wait around another year, study more random stuff that I will probably never use once in d-school, and loose another $100k in salary. Yeah, ADA... you rock! Thanks for testing me on plant biology. I now see why studying plants and understanding every detail of photosynthesis makes perfect sense to me and everyone else in dentistry. WTF? Anyway, as I said, this was the second time I took the DAT and I swear the questions this time around were a million times harder than the last time I took it. I didn't even know you could present ochem in word problem format without showing a line drawing... amazing! My scores are so bad I can't even post them here because people will laugh at me. I did score a 21 on RC, but even that is less than my first test. Anyway, just wanted to get that off my chest. I hope everyone has a great semester… I am off to start studying ecology and plant anatomy… it appears there is a lot of that in the oral cavity that I was unaware of until this afternoon when I had 4-5 random question on it. I feel better now...
