I think in the next couple of years they will be expanding their class. I forgot what Dr. P said about this year's class. It might be 84-86. Well anyway we'll probably find out next week whether or not the class is filled.

According to ADEA entering class size is 84 for UTDB. However , it does not mean that their list is final at this point. People that are waiting on other dental schools might get in somewhere else and withdraw from UTDB. Keep your hopes up!!

dr p said that the class size wouldnt change at my interview so 84 is the max, which means if you havent heard anything yet, it is waitlist or reject.

celeste returned my email on thurs with the standard "give us more time" bs, like they havent had enough time already.

time to revamp the app for 2010 tmdsas, which is supposed to get a makeover, oh boy

What's your point presjc2, don't get angry with these people, these are the people whom you have to deal with next year as well, if you'r applying to TEXAS. I'm just wondering what else is there to do to improve our chances besides all the general stuff that everyone knows such as taking classes, doing research, doing masters......more volunteer experiences ???????

taking upper division courses, more shadowing, new LOE,s ...new PS...
let's see what will be happen. But I am sure about something: "I am not going to give up in any condition!" good luck buddy 👍
 
i called utdb yesterday and asked what the status was if you hadnt gotten rejected or accepted... pretty much she said there were a few on the alternate list and that those people would be finding out what their status is in the next 2 weeks.
 
At 3:38 pm, I got a waitlist email from UTDB. Two yrs in a row, waitlisted. Check your emails peeps if u were waiting like me to hear from houston.
 
Just got an email from Houston that I've been put on the alternate list.
At least I didn't get rejected outright but I'm sure the chances are slim to get in at this point....🙁

Anyone else get this email??
 
I just recieved email from utdb today. I am on the alternated list so I'm waiting... :xf:
 
it appears to me that utdb's waitlist is pretty long so the chances are slim to none. anyways, post here if u hear anything

when did everyone interview that was put on the waitlist?

i haven't received anything so what does that mean?
 
it means they havent decided yet for u 2 wait;ist or reject

not to take attention off the subject, but I was at work wondering about how prepared one has to be to start dental school. I am working full time right now in a field that has nothing to do with dentistry and have had no time to shadow in over a year, need to pay the bills. Even when shadowing I never did anything hands on, I was just allowed to look through procedures. It is ok to be a complete newbee at the start of dental school and not have the slighest idea wats about to happen? :laugh: That's how I feel right now. I'm just venting here.

Hardly anyone knows anything when starting school... with the exception of maybe a hygienist who is now going to dental school, or some people who had some extensive assistant experience or went to lab tech school. Most people know nothing... I had very little hands on experience... so don't worry about that. If they expected you to know a lot when you started, they wouldn't even worry about teaching you some courses... but you have to realize that there are going to be several people who weren't even science majors, or who are working in a non-related field, etc. You will be fine.

today in our PDA meeting I was talking a to a friend a mine about how I am waitlisted in San Antonio but I don't think it is any hope. She said last year one of her firends was waitlisted in Houston with DAT 17 and got accepted in summer. hopefully it will happen again this year. :xf:

so how does this waitlist work exactly??
we're in order.. like waiting in line to be called up and as spots open up they go down the list right??
guess it's like waiting in the social security admin line
 
i dont know if they are ranked, the way that houston makes it sound is that its an unranked list, when a spot comes up, they just look to fill in the spot with someone similar to the person leaving
 
i called houston today....if you havent heard anything you should be "receiving an email shortly" according to the admissions lady.

Of course they are ranked but not on display for public viewing. But you are on the right track when it comes to picking a similar candidate (meaning age, sex, academic/ethnic/socio-economic background). That may be precisely why we see late acceptances with stats which are below the mean for the school in question.

sooo..no movement? when do they reject waitlist applicants? prior to classes starting or in may?
 
yeah, appears to be no movement. utdb doesnt ever reject u if uve been waitlisted. u just dont hear from them again. so if ure on their waitlist, u have from now to first day of classes to get in. so if u dont hear anything after the first day of classes, its a de facto rejection but u never get an official rejection email. u just have to reapply.

as for sa, i dunno. i havent been waitlisted there until this cycle. i have a gut feelin that they will eventually send u a rejection letter once its obvious that no one will be dropping from their class which will probably be in mid july.
 
Quick question for those of you who are applying again this year:

Can we start getting LOR's put together? I know they don't accept anything until may but I also know there's a form that goes with the LOR's and transcripts and it would be nice to get a copy of that now and to the professors so they can have it sent out on May 1st. Maybe I'm jumping the gun a bit here but I want my app in ASAP! Is anyone using the form from last year or are you just waiting until May 1st to download the form?
 
i would wait until may 1st, bc tmdsas is updating their website and MAY be changing the way they structure the app. if u want, u can probably email them and see if its ok to keep using last years rec request forms etc

it can't hurt to start requesting letters and once you know of any changes to the procedure for the new TMDSAS(if any) tell your evaluators then.

you must wait because there will be new ID number for 2010 cycle and it is important to have that number in LOR's form. in addition you have to wait till your spring final grade then you can submit your application.
 
My friend just told me she and someone else received the acceptance call from Baylor today. She told me the other person was originally going to SA and will now be declining SA so at least we know another spot at SA will open up. Keeps your heads up, there's still hope!
 
Hi all. Does anyone know how hard it is to gain in-state residency in Texas? Does one have to live in Tx for 12 months prior to submitting your application? I'm an out of stater, but I am really interested in applying the Tx schools this upcoming cycle in June.

thanks for the info!! there's still hope for SA...:luck: i've been studying hard for my DAT retake and it would be soooooooo nice if i received that acceptance...geez...
