The derminterest calendar has a Case Western interview scheduled for 11/11. I wonder if they've given out invites and none of us were lucky enough to get one :smack:

I know I saw this too! This is really rough hoping everyday to get interviews that don't come and trying to think of good answers for these secondaries. I really hope that November will be good for us!:xf:

I know, I've been checking my email probably 5 times a day. So far, M4 year is not the greatest year of my life like everyone said it would be. Just think, if you were applying for family medicine, you'd only have to apply to like 10 programs, you'd be knee deep in interviews by now, they'd pay for your hotel, and they probably have better food.

Omg I know! You took the words right out of my mouth. I stalk my email too and have been saying that M4 is definitely not the best year at all. Too much stress and anxiety for us. I am hoping a miracle happens and we get tons of interviews/match, but so far no reassuring signs.
 
Hey M4s......

Take our advice, we were there last year. I had 1 or 2 interview offers before thanksgiving and ended up with 10 total. It takes time. Don't freak out. Easier said than done I know but it will happen. My program hasn't even really reviewed apps yet.

not a big deal I guess, but why keep track of rejections? that means nothing. rejections seem to be random.

it only serves as an additional stimulus for anxiety

you guys do what you want, im just saying.... 😕
 
If you see another applicant has received a rejection and you haven't, you may possibly be in the works for an interview I would think. This is why, imo, you would keep track. To help your fellow applicants get a feel for the buzz out there, in all regards.

it's def a stressful time nov-jan for derm applicants...esp when ppl applying to other specialties have a ton of interviews at some really great programs/locations and you have only a couple derm interviews in random locations...it's worth it though?

Is there a "magic number" of interviews to have a relatively good chance of matching?

Also, is getting pimped on basic derm common during interviews?

November 1st tomorrow! Dean's letters should be going out. Hopefully, things will start picking up soon.

It's been brutal waiting while my classmates already have 20+ interviews...

1. most people say 9-10 interviews

2. was never asked anything about basic derm on any interview.

I could easily be one of the few who didn't notice this, but if you applied for UTSW Dallas, you need to answer 3 questions from their website rather than submit a personal statement. The deadline was yesterday. I just now submitted mine today. It might still be worth it to answer the questions even if you're late.

if they like you, it won't matter. I actually "forgot" to answer the questions and still got an invite. Whoops.

I didn't attend due to conflicts, but great program, btw.

You're fine dude. Wanna hear a jacked up story to make you feel better? A friend of mine received an email invite to interview at a competitive program (another specialty). 2 days later, he got another email saying the first email was a mistake and to disregard it, and that invites weren't supposed to have gone out yet. Then like a day later, he gets a rejection email. (he has a good attitude still, though)

If we applied to a school that is listed as already sending out interview invitations, should we assume we will not receive one? Just trying to figure out my interview calendar!

Never assume anything with the derm application process. Most programs send invites on different days. They may send offers to their rotators first before all the apps have been reviewed. Also as people get conflicting offers they will have to decline some which means more chances for an interview for someone else.

There will also be a select group of "rockstar" applicant that get more interviews than they can attend so spots will come available closer to interview time.

in their email to me, they said my application was put "on hold" and would be considered if an interview spot opens up. they also said "all interview spots are now filled", so i'm guessing they already gave out invites and it just hasn't been posted on here.

Penn State gave out interview invites, waitlists, and rejections. I applied there as well, but I haven't heard anything at all. Should I be worried that my email is broken? :scared: Anyone else in the same situation?
