I got a complete email Nov 19! Typically how long after that will they reject or invite you to interview? And how do they handle rejections? (i.e. tell you before interview season is over or after?)

Check last year's thread to find when they straight up stopped reading any apps b/c they booked up all their interview spots. I think it was sometime around now...

Man, I hope I can get and invite from NYU. This school just seems so amazing... puts in in NY!!! I wish they will get my application. I still have faith

I don't think they are done quite yet, the invites were only in early december a couple weeks ago.

Anyone from New York or who came into penn station for their interview, know how long a taxi cab ride from penn station to NYU will be at about 10:30-11:30am? I'm trying to decide which train to take in from New Jersey to arrive by noon for the lunch.

Thanks

Personally, I would just take the train all the way to the interview. I don't think you want to be playing with traffic on interview day.

I would factor in about 15 min to hail a cab (sometimes the cab line is long) and at least 15 min to get to the school. So I'd get a train that is scheduled to come into Penn station at least 45 min before you have to be there, an hour to be safe. You don't want to be stressing about being late, and if you get there too early you can just chill and grab coffee or something. also, NJ transit doesn't always run on time (my train came in 20 minutes later than the schedule said) - so give yourself an hour or so to be safe.

Opps, just realized where the Medical Center is in relation to Penn Station (My brain just associates NYU with Greenwich, sorry). Train would actually be a pain. Just take the M16 or the M34. Its a really short ride and distance, and then you don't have to stress about hailing a taxing or spending money on a taxi. According to the MTA, the bus is scheduled to arrive by the Med Center about 20 minutes later, and the schedules account for traffic (unless it is something unusual). I think you should get at penn station at least an hour ahead of time, take 20 minutes on the bus, that way you're at NYU a half hour early to relax, gear up for the interview, and get to know your fellow interviewers.

Good luck!

I have been complete for almost 2 months. Do they wait to inform applicants of rejections until the end of the application cycle or when they run out of interviews? Is there an order to how they review applications?

thanks so much acp2010 and longshanks! I have some knowledge of the subways, so I knew that I'd either have to take the bus or a cab, but thought the cab would be easier. I'm gonna look into the busses now, thanks.

If its a nice day you should consider walking. I used to commute to that area, and had the Penn Station --> Midtown East dilemma. Walking is usually the way to go. It takes 25-30 mins, no worries about trains/busses/traffic, and you would get a really nice look at the surrounding neighborhood.

Word -- I recommend walking as well. I've beaten the bus to 1st ave most of the time.

anyone know how NYU feels about update letters/Letters of intent???

who do i send it to exactly...

(this would be post-interview if that makes a difference)

I interviewed here last week and officially fell in love with this school and Manhattan in general! :xf: for good news...

yeah just walk to the school. plenty of people do it 5 days a week. the crosstown bus is roughly the same speed as walking and it very well may be so crowded you'll be standing anyway.

My tour guides seemed like lazy slackers. Bellevue Hospital is super sweet, though.

agreed. my experience consisted of two MS2's walking the halls aimlessly, and repeating "I'm sorry guys, I've never given this tour before." their access cards didn't work either. all i learned is that the entrance/atrium is pretty cool, and that the students "thought" it was designed by the same guy that designed the Luxor. so i guess they have slot machines and fake mummies littering the hospital as well...

do you think theyll actually notify this year on the 15th? last year i think it was on the 18th...

NYU sent out an uncharacteristically early batch of acceptances this year. A few weeks ago...

Point is, I don't think anyone knows when to expect some news. My fingers are crossed for you, though. 😉

It seems that was only for a few people--none of my friends who interviewed in the first weeks have heard anything at all

Congrats! When were you complete?

Anyone complete in mid-sept get an interview? Starting to get worried...

Is that necessarily a good thing?
😱
lol. jk but I would think that this gives your interviewer fewer things to write in the notes.

All the admissions folk who talked to us at my interview day said that the interview was just a chance for them to see if we could actually sustain pleasant conversation.

I absolutely loved my interview here. My interviewer came into the room with nothing in his hands -- no paper, no application, no nothing -- so he wasn't taking notes, but had clearly read my application as he started off the interview commenting on certain aspects of it (including how much he loved my personal statement). We also talked a lot about NYC and food, which happen to be two of my favorite things. He then ended the interview by handing me his card and saying I could email, call, or text him any questions I had. Hot. I left there feeling great.

I think there's always some variability. My interview was pretty conversational but I was asked some questions like why I'd want to go there (a real easy question for me), and a few more common questions.

has anyone received any interview invites recently?

thanks!

I'm really curious to see what my interviewer wrote down, haha, because we barely talked about my application at all. I do remember her saying that she likes her specialty (radiology) because she doesn't get too excited about patient contact and the inevitable chit-chat that comes with it. I really liked her and I think she liked me, but you never know, she might've been bored with the chit-chat

Interview Invite today for early January. I was complete in late July, so don't give up hope yet! 👍

^ Ditto, complete mid-September, slightly above average stats but not stellar. Not sure whether I've been passed over for a round or whether they're just getting to this time range. Interview dates for the first two weeks of Jan though, so should have plenty of spaces left for those still waiting. Good luck all!

NYU only interviews until the end of January...

complete July 30, 3.8/39T, have gotten invites to much higher ranked schools (yale, hopkins, columbia, etc), but no invite still from NYU. i emailed them that i'd be in the area too, but no luck. i'm confused. wonder if this is a likely rejection? anyone else in a similar situation? (and i did put a lot of thought into the NYU secondary explaining why i'm interested in the school.)

Sent an in-the-area letter... lets hope it pays off :xf:

I was in the same situation until I received an invite yesterday.. complete mid-August. I am most likely withdrawing though. I can't afford to book a third trip to NYC. 🙁 I would definitely have gone if this invitation had come a month or so sooner...

My best guess is that they want to interview applicants who seem genuinely interested in attending the school, have ties to the area or to the institution, etc. Even with your great stats, they may not have been convinced about these aspects. Have you tried writing an interest or update letter?

Good luck!

Good to know someone else was in a similiar situation. I'm going to NYC for Columbia and Cornell interviews next week though, so at this point even if NYU invites me, I won't be able to change my flight or book another flight. Oh well, their loss.

Good luck on your Columbia interview!

I interviewed this week at NYU. Does anyone know when we should find out. They told us before on the first week of march. Has anyone heard anything more concrete?

what would be the best way to send an LOI or update letter...email or snail mail. and if email, does anyone know the address?... the only contact info provided on the website is for Dean Genieser and Dean McGrath.

I got emails from: [email protected]

I have nothing to base this on, but if I were sending one, I'd do email. A lot of places are priding themselves on being "completely paperless" (not that NYU said is)

interviewed 11/17. status just changed from "interview complete - final decision pending" to just "final decision pending". wondering what this means...or if it means anything at all. gahh i just want a decision!

Hmm. Mine still says interview scheduled and I interviewed on the 15th.

Have you guys sent in update letters? I sent a (post interview) update/interest letter to the admissions email posted above but haven't received a reply that they got it or anything. Maybe I will call them later.
