I just got the secondary app today. Already filled it out. Don't have LORs yet (they're in process). My question is: is there a difference in whether I submit now or after LORs arrive?

I'm guessing that since I'm not complete, it might be a waste of time to submit now. Just want to make sure.

I dont see a reason to not submit it - not going to make a diff. I'd just want to get it off my plate and move onto my next one

I believe there is a difference. They might look at how long it took you to submit the application which is rather simple. Everything to ur advantage counts it might come down to u and someone else and they pick you just cuz u submitted ur stuff in timely manner

Unless they say 'turn this in within 1 month' - i dont think its a big deal. And since I dont remember Penn State saying that, i wouldnt worry about it. Some other schools are explicit about it and I would agree for those schools it would make a diff

Got an interview invite today! scheduled for Sept 13th
oos female, complete 8/11

My status still says that it hasn't been determined whether or not my file is complete. I submitted the secondary on August 5th. Does anyone else have that status that submitted early?

I submitted on the fourth of August! 🙁

What other dates were available?

you call and schedule the interview so there is no online calendar where you can see available dates. but they tell you that they have interviews on mondays, wednesdays, and fridays, beginning on Sept 8. You can either do it from 8:30-2:15pm or 10:30-4:15pm. they basically just suggest the earliest date that they have available when you call.

I think it's hilarious that some of us have not even been marked as complete, even though we submitted at the earliest time, and others are already scheduled for interviews!

I don't find it funny at all 😕

got an interview for sept. 10th!

submit secondary - 8/4
app complete - 8/11

I have exact same stats and IS residency and submitted first day. Not a peep either. This really is random haha.

anyone get complete lately?
I submitted august 6th and still no word!
Congrats to those who got interviews!:luck:

Went ahead and paid... will not be complete soon tho. Primary was submitted early august, have not been verified yet, letters are in process soooooo...

I submitted on 8/15 and got the complete email on 8/17, so the turnaround was pretty quick for me. Maybe because I'm in state?

complete today, submitted my app 8/10
in state

Penn State was the SLOWEST school I applied to last year. When I went there for an interview, the lady at the front desk told me (since she was new) that everything was done by paper and took an average of 6 weeks for files to be reviewed.

Btw, they are also notorious for selecting terrible faculty members for interviewing. They also over-interview compared to most schools according to Dean Itswan

Also, Penn State medical is not located on main campus...it is actually 2 hours away in a farm town with all the chocolate factories. Just in case you didn't know that, I wouldn't want you to be disappointed like I was.

Yay. Penn State Interview for 9/15. I am excited, but slightly overwhelmed because I have interviews on the 9/13, 9/14 and 9/17 at other schools and that is a lot of traveling about and interviewing jam packed into a short amount of time. But so it goes.

I submitted first week of August and still not complete. My letters have been in since July. 🙁 Anyone else in the same boat or should I contact them?

I'm also in the same boat---4th of August or so. Are you OOS? I'm OOS, so I just thought they'd look at me last.

I am OOS. But I have seen other OOSers on here who've submitted after me and are complete/invited for an interview.

goodness, i submitted my secondary over a month ago and it still hasn't been completed yet. is this typical for penn state?

I believe if you're OOS, they're taking their time with our application. I submitted on the fourth of August and haven't been touched yet. I don't remember the application being open prior to early August, are you sure you submitted it over one month ago?

lol, for some reason i thought we were closer to the end of august...i got my application at the beginning of august too. i submitted it a few days after i received it. my bad 😳 i guess we just have to wait

interview invite 8/23, interview 9/8!

the office staff was incredibly helpful, helping make sure that i would be finished in time for my scheduled transportation

I submitted my secondary as soon as it was available, and was complete a few days later. I've been complete for a few weeks now, and I'm OOS. I would definitely call and make sure they've received everything. Good luck!

I called a couple days ago because I submitted several weeks ago and haven't been listen as complete. I talked to a very nice lady who told me that applications aren't listed as complete until they're reviewed. Basically she told me that she had everything of mine on file, but that for some reason they weren't updating status` until they're reviewed. So hopefully my next update will be an inteview invite :luck:

Thx for the update. Yeah she is really nice, I remember I had to call them awhile back and she answered.

Weird. I've been complete for a while now, does that mean then that my file has been reviewed and passed over?

Agreed that Penn State is really slow and it seems like it takes them forever. They eventually do get around to everyone though

I have never heard what you said about faculty members for interviewing; my faculty members at Penn State were great and I have only heard really positive things from other interviewees. Very laid back interviews. I think maybe you are thinking of MCW because there is no Dean Itswan at PSU that I remember (but there is an Istwan running the show at MCW, and as a side note, if you are in fact talking about MCW, I would actually agree with you regarding faculty members for interview; not too impressed with mine and heard some of the others were kind of harsh).

Also agree about the location. Wouldn't want to live there forever, but I also think it's a place you could really learn to appreciate as a med student. It's actually quite picturesque

I'm interviewing 9/8 as well! 10:30 slot. See you there haha

Has anyone that submitted early August and is OOS been verified yet? I just wanted to get an idea of whether people who are OOS and submitted around my date (the fourth of August) have been completed already.

My suspicion is that people who are "low priority" on their list--OOS and medium stats, will be marked complete/reviewed later in the cycle...so we're on the back -burner.

I'm international (so I guess that's OOS) I submitted on August 23 and I got a compete e-mail today. It says "Be assured that the Admissions Committee reviews all completed applications in the random and rolling order they were received." But I have no idea how they're processing the secondaries.

I am OOS with pretty modest stats and submitted around August 4th and still have not been determined whether I'm complete or not, so I am going to agree with your interpretation of being "low priority".

Haha I think by the first word complete, you meant you submitted. 😛 Okay cool, since we're in the same boat of not being Marked "complete" then I won't fret..I wanted to call just now, out of the sake of making sure..but I'll wait until others are marked complete...either that, or I'll call in about a week after it's fully been over a month.

Oops, yes I meant submitted, I'm going to edit the original. It's kind of frustrating, because I thought the purpose of submitting early for those with modest stats was to have the opportunity to be considered while there were still seats available.

To see if they mark you complete based on "priority", has anyone been marked complete early and just waited without receiving an interview aka more than a month or 6 wks. It might be too early to have people like that.

So I just succumbed to the pressure of calling..partly because I'm at research and bored, and they told me that they will email us when our application is sent over to the committee. It's normal to be in my boat.
