What's up with Wayne's non-refundable $50 deposit, and their own special Wayne State Certiphi background check that costs $32.50? Kind of annoying, I'm not 100% going to attend here and won't have a decision made until I get financial aid back from everywhere. I hate to throw this money away just to hold my spot in the meantime.

Anyone know what the last interview date is? And what is this May 4th date everyone keeps referring to? I'm interviewing 4/18 so I am just curious.

May 4th is the last decision date. they take 1/7of the class each decision.

Not true. They review the entire wait list as well each decision date.

Just got an e-mail regarding this:

There have been a few questions regarding the Certiphi Criminal Background Check email that you received yesterday. We are not a part of the AAMC CBC program until the 2012 entering class and as such there is a different procedure.

A Criminal Background Check is required. If you have already completed a Certiphi CBC and have a copy showing only FELONY information, you may send me a copy of that document and I will make sure that the responsible office receives the form.

The CBC needs to be completed before orientation (1st week of August).

I apologize for not getting this information to you prior to the email going out.

^^ so you don't have to throw away your money anywhere... you have until August to submit it (a long way from now) and by then you will know if you're going here or somewhere else.

It isn't false either. its just partially true.

Its true that everyone from March 24th forward will get an initial decision that day. But I guess it being the final date will also mean others get rereviewed at that point. So its partly true.

I forget the date exactly, but pretty much people that haven't been really accepted are in limbo. They're not even on an official waitlist. People can still be accepted or rejected. If none of those happen then they make it to the final, official waitlist.

ONLY FELONY?? information..waht does that mean? so if you are completely crime free, you don't need to submit CBC? or are there many parts to the CBC

Perhaps a current student can answer this:

How feasible would it be to live 45-60 minutes away from the school? My parents live in one of the northern suburbs, and I'd probably live with them during the first two years to save some money.

From what I understand, attendance at lectures isn't mandatory and the lectures can be streamed online. How many times are you at the school in a typical week?

Thanks.

Others might differ in opinion, but I think it's definitely doable. The worst part for you would be the first few months during anatomy when you have to go in most every day for anatomy lab/histology lab. During physiology (December-March) you go in average once every other week... if you have your clin med class in Detroit that would be once a week in addition, but there are clin med small group options in Rochester/Beaumont Troy/etc so you technically wouldn't have to go to Detroit for clin med. Neuro/Nutrition/Genetics (March-May) has been 1-2 days/week average. A couple of my anatomy lab partners drove from Canada everyday and it took them an hour to get to school and home, but it saves them about 20,000 a year in living expenses to live at home with their parents. It also saves them a lot of time not having to cook and grocery shop and clean, and they love it. I live north as well (unfortunately not with my family) but plan to live here all four years. I don't mind commuting the few days we have to.

Hope that helps a little!

Is there an institutional app for financial aid?

Not sure if anyone posted this yet (I don't feel like reading through 11 pages to look for it lol) but if you have been accepted and are going here, be sure to join the Facebook page:

Same here. Alternate list.

Boo 🙁

My friend got off of it 2 years ago so I'm going to keep updating them.

just accepted, I am so happy, do we have to do anything right now to accept the offer or just wait, I told my mom I hope they did not send me acceptance letter mistakenly 🙂

Alternate list. They said only 1/7 of offer made anyone know if that means each round I will still be considered?

Alternate list. I'll probably pull my app now. Good luck everyone.

Were you on alternate or did you interview late?

Did anyone get rejected?

I only ask because last year I was rejected at their last decision date and this year they kept me on the alternate list.

no, I was wait list for the past two years, this year late interview and accepted today, I hope they did not make any mistake , 🙂 I am very happy

Does Wayne place all nonaccepted students on their Waitlist/Alternate List? Do they actually reject anyone postinterview? It seems like their WL may be pretty long? What's Wayne's waitlist movement like?

Officially, no. They either accept you, reject you, or waitlist you. Unofficially, they place all non-accepted students on the waitlist. If you aren't rejected on the final decision date (today), then you're on the extended waitlist until classes start (or you're pulled off).

In years past, their waitlist movement is pretty steady.

Do you know class size/numbers wise Wayne's WL movement? Thanks.

Anyone accepted off of the alternate/waitlist today?
I'm still on the waitlist.

Also, I sent my update letter last week. Does anyone know if the letters get forwarded to the committee? Who reads the subsequent update letters after the last admit date?

Yups...was rejected today... sucks in a way.. but I'll be alright though... good luck to hose accepted and those still in the running. Wayne state's a really good school and if you get a choice doing rotations at Detroit Receiving, you should take advantage of it, it's a really good place to learn the grits and grinds of medicine. You were the better person today 🙂.

Is it reasonable to ask for my rank in the waitlist or should I just wait and see?

I'd like to know this too. I actually emailed them to ask a bit more about how the waitlist works and whether those of us who were waitlisted today are on the so called "extended waitlist" or so called "unofficial waitlist"

Edit:

Looks like they already got back to me

Here's what it says:

You are on the final alternate list that will be considered as applicants withdraw. Our class is currently full although we have a number of people holding multiple acceptances and expect to begin offering from the waitlist (alternate list) after the deadline of May 16, 2011. The list is ranked although the committee does not release the rank number. You may send updates that will be reviewed as additional offers are extended.

Dawn

PS, from the bolded above it looks like it is ranked but updates are still welcome. Also looks like they don't release your ranks on it. This is the final waitlist. wooooooohooooooo!!! that whole confusion of the unofficial waitlist vs. official extended waitlist had me freaked out. Kinda glad i was in the last decision date rather then initial decision date cuz it reduces the anxiety as I at least know my waitlist position is official actual waitlist position and not a hold like list.

This makes me feel a bit better.

My stats are 35Q 3.6S 3.7OA and 60hrs of Hospice Volunteering + 3 years of research anyone have any idea where on the wait list i might be?

🙂

did everyone's email have giant green congratulations on the top?

I am still going to call them tmr to make sure I was accepted

Anyone accepted off of the alternate/waitlist today? Please share your stats.🙂
I'm still on the waitlist. 29, 3.4S, 3.6OA IS

Also, I sent my update letter last week. Does anyone know if the letters get forwarded to the committee? Who reads the subsequent update letters after the last admit date, does it even make a difference?

Update letters don't mean anything. The committee doesn't read them, at least not this late in the cycle.

ha yeah I think wayne is like the one school that doesn't care about them. I remember reading about how they don't really ask for them/they don't really encourage them.

I was also placed on the Alternate List today. So I'll join in your frustrations, lol.

ISers, are you from WSU undergrad?

Also, I know I've heard that WSU is about numbers, but does anyone know if they prefer GPA over MCAT or vice versa?
