Is any 2010 applicant missing a couple of prereqs? How is this affecting your application strategy? Are you verifying with schools whether this is an issue before you apply to them?

I "CLEPed" out of Gen Chem I&II (naively), so I'm taking them by Summer 2010 (prior to matriculation). A couple of schools have told me its a relative disadvantage since most applicants complete all prereqs b4 applying.

Is anyone is a similar situation? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I don't think it's that much of a disadvantage especially if a) you did well on the sciences sections of the MCAT / other chemistry classes (orgo) and b) if you marked that you're planning on taking the course in the future.

You're expected to take ~4 years to complete your degree and requirements. They're not going to penalize much for not having everything done in 3 (I certainly still had requirements that I was doing senior year - otherwise I would have just graduated early and saved the money).

would taking some pre reqs in different universities hurt me? like iv taken the necessary courses for the mcat but not calculus and bio chem, should i take them in the university im getting my bachelors from or it doesnt matter?

Huh? Most schools I've applied to just need your prereqs done by the June before you matriculate, not before you apply.

I'm taking Orgo II and Biochemistry my senior year (right now, pretty much). I have had no issues with that.

I technically don't have the math requirements for WashU, but I didn't get very far with them so it doesn't matter.

I am taking my last pre-req right now. (Advanced Inorganic in place of second semester of Gen Chem)
No school has mentioned it being an issue to me.

I'm missing pre-reqs for a few schools and completing them now. It's never been brought up in an interview.

I'm actually missing up to 3 pre-reqs, depending on school requirements. I only took 1 semester of gen chem, 1 semester of physics, and 1 semester of bio lab. So far I haven't had a problem, but at the same time I've kind of tried to make up for my lack of pre-reqs. For example, I've taken 2 semesters of biochem to make up for skipping a semester of gen chem, I'm an engineering major so that's kind of like physics, and I've done research in a couple bio labs, and am actually a bio major, but just haven't taken 2 lab classes.

I have AP credit for physics, but when I was in high school I didn't bother to take the tests for chem or bio (took the classes, but not the tests).

So far I don't think it's hurt me at all, no one's said anything about it at any of the schools I've attended so far, and I've been able to get interviews at some really great places.

I applied without taking any orgo labs and just put it as future courses to take before matriculation. 3 of 11 places I interviewed at asked about it and I just told them my schedule didn't permit me to take it in school so I decided to take it before med school. They all seemed fine with the answer and I was accepted at those places already.
