Okay, so I know as future doctors we're supposed to be immune to gory stuff like this... but did anyone feel even the teensiest bit queasy after seeing this? Fascinating, but very jarring for me...

Yeah, I would say it's pretty natural to feel at least a "bit queasy" after seeing that, especially if you're not conditioned to that type of stuff. Don't worry. lol

did anyone write anything in the "additional considerations" section? is this like a 5th essay? i cant' believe i STILL haven't submitted mine yet.

Verified 10 days ago...still no supplement. Should I be worried?

Nope. Everyone gets a secondary. Keep an eye on your spam folder and if you do not see one this week, I'm sure you can email/call admissions. Good luck!

Interview invites were supposed to have started going out today, or so the website says.

Yeah, I just started it yesterday. It took me a month and a half to just come up with how I wanted to answer.

I didn't want to rush it because Duke is my #1 choice and I have very slim chances.

You, on the other hand, are a baller!

Wait, what? I thought Duke was non-rolling....

Duke isn't rolling. But that has nothing to do with their interview invites.

Their website still says: "August 15: Interview Invitations Begin"

Maybe it's for the MdPhd crowd, or maybe they're behind.

Interview invite!!

I got it via email early this morning.

If we are sending a composite letter, and not individual letters, do we have to list each person that is recommending us within that letter on the secondary application or just list the composite writer/committee? 😕 On the site it says you should list a minimum of two science faculty, etc.

Yeah, I listed each person who wrote a letter that is part of the composite letter packet as well as the person who actually wrote the composite letter.

lol oops

Is there an easy way to determine whether they received our letters?

Bah, last one of my secondaries left!!!! What a tough one... I feel like these are questions you can ask 70-year-olds and they will also have to think hard, never mind a 23-year old!!

Can someone explain to me the process of getting letters of recommendation to Duke? So they screen based on the AMCAS w/o letters of rec and then if you're invited for an interview, they require the letters?

Please clarify. Thanks.

yeah, they don't want you to send in letters unless you're invited for an interview.

but my question is, you still fill out the 4+ recommender's information NOW, right? before submitting your secondary?

I doubt it since that recommender information you fill in would also go to other schools you have applied it.

??? How do other schools see what you put on the Duke secondary?

Yes, you put in the recommender information now. The website will not let you submit your application without the recommender requirements being met.

Last secondary to finish......

must write these essays!!!!

Just submitted after having it stare at me in my inbox for 1.5 months!! it was my last one too 🙂

I would say Duke is my #1 curriculum wise. And everyone is telling me to do it even though my stats are low 😳.

LET'S DO THIS!

what are the supplemental prompts?

Essay 1: What is the most significant moral or ethical dilemma that you have faced in your life (excluding instances of academic dishonesty involving another person)? Describe how you dealt with and potentially resolved it, including beliefs, resources, individuals, etc. How did this dilemma and its resolution change your life and what, if any, impact will this have on your future as a health care provider?

Essay 2: What has been your most humbling experience and how will that experience affect your interactions with your peers and patients?

Essay 3: What is the toughest feedback that you ever received? How did you handle it and what did you learn from it?

Essay 4: This is optional. If you want to write another one, pick one of the following:

OPTION #1:
What is the single most compelling aspect of your application to medical school and why?

OPTION #2:
What is the value of giving back to your community? Is it a more important attribute of a physician than of others performing other roles within a community?

OPTION #3:
What are people most likely to misunderstand about you and why?

That... is just terrible.

Interview invite! 🙂

Complete SR: 7/2/11, SS: 8/1/11, II: 8/30/11, OOS

Interview Invite!!!!! So so so excited for this one! Submitted secondary mid-July

I have a question! If we're submitting a composite letter to Duke, do we need to list the author of the composite letter, or just the authors of the letters that are used to make the composite letter? None of the three boxes available for clicking ("science faculty," "this letter is part of a composite letter," etc.) make sense for the composite letter itself, which is why I ask. There's no "this IS a composite letter" option.

Also, congrats to those with interview invites! Go knock 'em dead!

i think i ended up listing the author of my committee letter and then each person that was attached to committee letter (i.e. my science faculty recs).

Just saw on Duke's Twitter feed from yesterday...

"Interview scheduling has begun; MMI sessions begin on September 26."

Is MMI new at Duke this year?

Yes, Duke is switching to MMI for this year 🙂 Get excited, they just repainted some of the rooms that you'll be in!

2011 Duke grad here, currently applying this cycle. If anyone needs help navigating campus on interview day, or wants any information about Duke or Durham, just let me know. I'm happy to help.
