I'm planning on flying home right after the interview, however, the latest flight out is 550pm and I'm scared I might miss my check in time. Can anyone comment on the travel time to National airport from GU? I know google maps estimates about 17 minutes but I'm scared of the traffic. Thanks in advance

If you're worried about time, forget the Metro and take a cab. $15 and 20 minutes or so. Be aware that this is rush hour, though, and DC traffic is horrible. Still, it'll take you less time by far than the shuttle and Metro.

Thanks for all your help everyone. Greatly appreciated. 🙂

rejected 🙁
stats in profile link

there are other schools out there, but it still stings lol

Rejected 3.92/39. Will make an MDapps profile if/when I get an acceptance.

Thanks 🙂 Ironically I got the e-mail on the morning of an interview at another school

Talk about bittersweet hahahaha.

I drowsily woke up, saw the rejection, and went back to sleep lol. There's my emotion . I had an interview 2 days before, so maybe that's why I found it easier going straight back to sleep...or maybe it was that horror movie I staid up watching.....

Hello guys. Is anyone having trouble accessing their status page? I've been trying to access it for a few days now and after I put my PIN and password it seems like it's trying to upload but then it just goes back to the same page where it asks my pin and password. I've tried it in google chrome and internet explorer and nothing. I've also checked that cookies are enabled etc, etc. so I guess I'll have to email technical support. Has anyone had the same problem, and if so, how did you fix it? Thanks!!

How is Georgetown with late applicants? I am hoping to get my PRIMARY application in either tuesday or wednesday, and my stats are:

Canadian, cGPA: 3.76, sGPA: 3.69, mcat 31Q (12PS, 8VR, 11BS) but a 10 point jump from my last one (21Q, 8/5/8). Also got a 3.9 gpa overall in my last year.

I have lots of evidence of leadership, and some solid EC's but no publications and just 1 research position.

What do you guys think my shot is here applying this late? I am also really interested in the MD/MBA program.

Hello,

Imo, there is the disadvantage since you still need time for verification and the verbal weakness. But you did show a huge improvement and the combined score is not bad. I'd say go for it but only if you really want to attend the school. Make sure you come up with a secondary essay that will rock admin's socks off. Just my 2cents...

For people wondering what their chances are, Georgetown is very selective towards people who fit the school's philosophy far more than with numbers. I had good numbers (3.92, 34), but I don't think that had nearly as much to do with my interview invite as did my personal statement and secondary essay. There are a lot of Jesuit values which fit my person philosophy on life, and this was reflected in my essays. They are looking for people who will espouse things like caring for the undeserved and disenfranchised, and will be doctors who do so in practice, not future dermatologists/plastic surgeons who are looking for an easy life/tons of money.

Did anyone request to stay with a current medical student for the night before their interview? I sent them an email request a few weeks ago and still haven't heard back. My interview is a week from tomorrow so I kinda need to know if I should book a hotel room.

Is anyone else interviewing here on Thursday this week?

I'd book a hotel room right now, because most hotels have a 24 hour full refund policy. 🙂

Hang tight. The coordinators got back to me the weekend before my interview. It feels last minute but nbd. Apparently there were some exams late last week so that could explain it too.

Got an interview invite at George Washington for December 1st ... is it too early to send an "in the area" email to Georgetown? I'll be traveling a pretty long way, so I'd like to have interviews around the same time if possible.

Interview invite!! 😀😀

Complete: Aug 11
Invite: Oct 12

I wonder what the adcoms liked about my file -- my GPA is just average, and ywlke posted a rejection further up the thread with a 3.92/39.

The funny thing is, I never even mentioned cura personalis in my essay. I just explained why certain aspects of their school appealed to me how they will allow me to carry on with my previous work/volunteering.

Only 4 international students matriculated at GU last year, so we'll see what happens at the interview. :xf:

Interview Invite as well!!
Complete: Aug 10
Invite: Oct 12, 11AM PST

Good luck, ModerateMouse. It's clear you've made the cut (stats-wise), now they want to get to know who you are "off paper." Just be yourself. Clearly, they think you fit their school profile well enough for an interview. Best of luck.

II as well!
Complete on August 11.
Today must be the Aug 10th/11th review day even though I know people with later complete dates have gotten offers haha.

congratz to all!

No, it's not. And Gtown was pretty receptive for me (got an invite less than a week after I sent the email).

It's worth a shot, and if they like your app, then there's a good chance it could work out for you.

Yahoo! Interview Invite! The first one not in my home state!
Submitted:7/18
Complete:8/12
Invitation: 10/12
Anyone sign up for the November 18th interview date?

Weeee! interview invite 10/12! Interview scheduled for 11/16! Anyone who has already interviewed: have any advice?

lol? Gtown doctors don't care about $$$ and are ethical saints? HA! Try working with a few Gtown graduate physicians in D.C./Nova and let me know if your opinion changes.

P.S. lots of derms, Orthos switching to plastics/cosmetic surgery procedures.

No doubt, I'm sure that if you get an amazing board score, seeing all of the doors open in front of you, may change your mind, especially after all of the hard work put in. It also won't hurt the school if they can show that their students match into competitive residencies, I just mean that it seemed to me that they took the Jesuit tradition seriously in their selection of those they interview, moreso than SLU where I didn't feel much at all of it. Students seemed to be selected far more on their personal statements, essays, and extra curriculars over raw numbers.

Also, FCB is awesome. I was in Barcelona when they won the European cup (it was our first day, and we were living right on La Rambla where everyone converged). What a way to be introduced to the city.

Any feedback from people who have already interviewed?

got my interview invite on wednesday around mid-day! 🙂 i'll be there nov 10. anyone have any prep advice?

Seems like I still have a while to go....was complete 8/29 🙁

Looking at last year's thread, post-interview decisions weren't released until 11/1. More waiting...

still need to submit my secondary but having troubles signing into my account. Anybody had or have the same problem? solution? already reset my password, still cant sign in.

thinking of applying here too. im hoping you guys get interviews too! 🙂

That's unfair. Yes we put out lots of Orthos and surgeons. (Not that many people went into derm). Lots of people who are interested in those things come to Georgetown because we have a good track record getting people into those residencies. That does not mean that we are bad people or that we only care about money. They make a real effort to help us decide on our own what we want to do, be that super specialty or primary care. In fact, I would say that they try harder to get us to go into primary care. They WANT us to work with underpriviledged patients. They have us do a service learning project, and we rotate through all the hospitals in the area, including SE DC.

Cura personalis really is the most important thing at this school. That doesn't mean we are saints, and that doesn't mean we don't care about money. We want to get paid too. What cura personalis really means is that we care about patients. We listen to them, and care about them as a whole person. So, if you are an orthopedic surgeon, you would do the surgery that would allow your patient to continue doing their favorite activity and work with them on the best way for them to individually rehab.

For those of you who got interview invites, congrats! I love this school, and I think people here truly like it here. We love medicine and we love to work with our patients!

Hey everyone! I'm still relatively new to this site, but I was just wondering if anyone had any statistics about how many applicants actually complete the Secondary Application for Georgetown Medicine.

I noticed that the Guide to Application says all students are given the Secondary, but I really feel like I read somewhere a long time ago that nowhere near 11,000 some students actually complete the secondary. If I remember correctly, it might've been around 6,000 students or so that actually complete Georgetown's secondary application. If anyone knows for sure or can post a link to where it might say that, would you mind sharing?

That would certainly give me a peace of mind knowing that there's technically a smaller applicant pool of several people end up not submitting secondaries!

Thanks!

man i loved this school. hoping for some love next week!

Based on last year, I think we have at least a couple weeks to wait. I think the first acceptances were the beginning of November.:xf:

I haven't heard anything since late July. I think they forgot about me or lost my application.

When I had my interview on Sept 12, Ms Sullivan said that they meet every other Thursday and review 80 applicants. She said that the first group of 80 should hear around Oct 15th. She told us that our group was the first batch in the second group of 80 and that we could expect to hear back around the end of Oct. So maybe they are doing things a little differently than last year.

That is the best news I've heard all weekend.

i'm staying with a friend in DC pretty far away from georgetown. what will make the most sense for me in terms of getting there?

the website says to get off at foggy bottom and then take a cab. is it pretty easy to catch a cab near foggy bottom? i'm new to dc. does this seem like a feasible route to take?

Any idea when decisions will be made? Interviewed August 31st.

C'mon, Georgetown!

My interview here was very interesting. LOVED the curriculum, location, clinical rotations, etc. Did anyone else get slammed with ethical questions?

When I went I got off the metro at Rosslyn and then took the free GUTS shuttle. It worked pretty well for me.

I thought the interviews were closed? Usually the ethical ones come up in open interviews?
