Hofstra was hoping to have all their problems solved this weekend, and they are going to send a mass email to everyone who has received secondaries.

Included in the email, they will note whether or not they've received payment from you yet.

I just got an email that my application went through, so people should be able to submit now.

I submitted yesterday, and it got all funky with the payment...but I got a automatically generated completion email yesterday aswell. Is this what you received

No- don't. I called this morning. They said that it isn't fixed yet, but it is close.
 
I stand corrected! I assume that they're working through the backflow to return money and whatnot.

And yes, that was the email that I received. If you go to the portal, it looks different, too.
 
are there any questions for this secondary? i logged on but nothing is really there. lol

edit: it said that i had created an application, but really didn't. Had to create a new one to view questions.

I still haven't heard anything about their system yet. I hope it gets resolved soon...
 
From a mass e-mail I received from adcom on 7/12, 4:13pm

"We would like to inform you that at this time the technical difficulties we were experiencing with our database have been addressed. If you have not yet submitted your supplemental application, we encourage you to please do so at your convenience."

No one has any idea, and last year is not adequate to base assumptions from, as that was the first year and everything was later.

I'm sure that the first person to get an interview invite will post.
 
is the status supposed to appear on main screen when you login to app on hofstra site? think i should be complete but don't see anywhere where it shows details of what's been submitted, etc....
 
Has anyone gotten their refund yet? I was one of the people that paid twice with 2 credit cards.

I'm in the same boat as you. I called admissions last week about this and they said that if you're seeing the message that says you've submitted, then you must be complete, because they wouldn't have sent you the secondary in the first place if all your other application pieces were not in place. They were unclear about whether or not they would send an email specifically saying, "You're complete." He almost seemed to indicate that the receipt of secondary and payment emails were the same as being complete.

I just wish they would send a definitive complete email or give us a way to check our status!

Hmm, I'm not sure about this. I submitted the secondary, but I know I am definitely not complete because my school hasn't sent out committee letters yet...so I'm pretty sure secondary submitted does not necessarily mean complete. But I also don't see any sort of status when I log on to the applicants' portal.

Great 😕...If I was in your shoes, I'd call admissions and ask specifically about having a way to check your status then. Especially with your committee letter not being in, you'll have no way of knowing if/when they receive it.

I'll give them until Friday for my own application and if I don't receive a complete e-mail, I'll also ask if there is any way for them to give me confirmation that I am complete. The rep I've spoken to in the past has been very friendly, so I'm sure if they have the ability to check your status then they could tell you over the phone.
 
It seems some people already got their secondaries, but this post still hasn't been updated with it =(

Regarding the first question, if I went to a masters program, and graduated last year, should I just be describing what I did since I graduated from my program? Or should I list everything I have done since I completed my bachelors, and include grad school as an activity. Thanks!
 
Anyone hear anything from Hofstra? It's been a while since the earliest secondaries were completed.

Nothing yet, so don't worry yet. Go ahead and worry about other schools, but save Hofstra for later.
 
Secondary Submitted on 7/20. However, I still have not received a "complete" email as well.
 
Finally got a complete status today by checking the hofstra portal. They say please allow up to 6 weeks for review as they have received an "overwhelming" number of applicants.
 
For the first question:
"Please describe the activities or programs in which you have participated in since college graduation."

It seems a little silly! Isn't this the domain of the activities section in AMCAS? Does anybody know what they are looking for here, because it seems redundant. Thanks!

They are redundant. Just list them all, cuz that's all they're asking for. They do this all the time. In fact, b/c of this, in my USC Keck essay on how to change application process, I said schools should stop asking for information already in AMCAS application :laugh:

I think you should include everything your doing (or plan on doing) before matriculating next year

do you think being a part time student would count for that? i went to paramedic school during my junior year of undergrad, and for the first semester i drop to part time status because i wasn't sure if i could handle both. the reason it's part time is because paramedic school was a certificate program
 
Been complete for about 5 weeks now...the 6 week mark is coming up soon!

Interviews should also be going out soon. Last year I think the first batch was sent out around September 7th or so. Can't Wait!
 
Is anyone else having difficulty logging into the Hofstra site? The login is not accepting my password (my birthdate, which I did not change) and the link to the "forgot password" goes to an error page on the website. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing troubles.

Don't stress- Hurricane Irene smacked Long Island pretty hard last night, so Hofstra's internet/server was probably affected. If you still can't login on Monday, I would call them, but it's likely a hurricane related issue. They actually had a notice up earlier in the day mentioning that they were going to be taking certain things offline during the hurricane.

in new york city, irene was nothing more than a relatively heavy rainstorm

Yeah, I mean it wasn't destroying everything in sight, but it still caused a fair amount of damage and flooding. There are lots of trees, power lines and transformers that got knocked down. A friend of mine actually had his car crushed.

I think you mean "tropical storm" Irene. My parents live in the mandatory evacuation zone and decided to stay. Besides some fallen trees and minor flooding it wasn't too bad. It's not like roofs were ripped off houses and buildings were leveled.
 
The Hofstra portal has been down since Friday for mandatory updates, and if they lost power, I'm sure that has been delayed. I can only log in for email and Blackboard.
 
During the last application cycle I found the school threads to be somewhat helpful in getting an idea of schools from current students, and so if anyone has any questions for a current student I thought I would try and answer a few. I can probably be more helpful after interviews when people are more interested in the program then the payment system or application process (both of which I know nothing about). As should be obvious, my opinions are my own.

Probably doesn't matter then. I'm gonna interview in October, but I don't have school considerations. How did you know they don't off until January? Looks like more waiting ahead!

The system is seemingly down though, so I have not been able to schedule a date. Very excited!
