To my knowledge, this happens when there is a large discrepancy between the write-ups from your first two interviews. I'm sure there are other reasons a third interview could be requested, but this is my understanding.

Also, can't wait to meet some of you guys at second look! Hopefully you will get to meet me... I am especially good-looking, humble, modest, and pro-DO. Did I mention modest?

I second everything you just said. everything.

lol

I interviewed at GR, and I'm starting my second look in EL

I have a feeling it will be much better 🙂

I'm a little surprised that students came off arrogant, cause the students I met were all great. But at the same time I'm not THAT surprised students came off arrogant, cause this is medical school and (for the most part) we're used to be the smarter/smartest people in our class. And an arrogant personality sometimes comes with the territory when you're better at something, just like people who are good at sports.

Anyway, IF msu chm does have that reputation, we'll make sure our class turns that around 🙂

Yes!

I am heading up to Michigan, hope I get a big win! 3rd interview, can't wait, I hope I don't irritate and ruin my chances to matriculate. MSU I don't care, that you are called the college of human medicine, instead of MSU medical school. In fact, being different is cool! Driving to this interview is quite a haul but it's worth it if Dean Maurer gives me a call and asks me to move there next fall! See y'all!!

Congrats to all the accepted applicants that will be joining us here at MSU CHM tomorrow for 2nd look day. The day is packed with talks and tours of both GR and EL ending with a reception at the Breslin Center here in East Lansing (I'm from EL). I will see some of you on the tour...I will have a green shirt on 😉 I want to personally extend a congrats on making it through the process and wish you the best as you make your final decisions on where to attend medical school. I hope to see many of you here at CHM if you feel that we are the fit for you...clearly we thought you were the fit for us!

To those on the alternate/wait-list...keep your head held high because the roller coaster ride isn't over until the last final second of this cycle. I saw some dates as I scanned through the thread since I haven't been on in a while and wanted to correct it. The golden date that alternate list students wait for is May 15th. That is when those accepted finalize their options and schools find out how many more students are needed to fill the class. The admissions committee and office will at that point go through the alternate list and extend acceptances...could be a christmas in May/June/July for some. I hope this helps clarify some of the confusion posted on here.

Again, Congrats (and Good Luck to Avarysdad) to those that I will see tomorrow...you've definitely earned it. A glimpse at the East Lansing campus for those that haven't seen it...

awesome video, we all love the phys guy!

So...2nd look was great. CHM went from the bottom of my list to the top of it. See y'all in August!!

Had a great time at second look day, but had to leave after the student panel in East Lansing because I was sick. Can anyone catch me up on what I missed? What was the reception at the Breslin Center like? How about the anatomy lab in Fee Hall? I was bummed to leave early. Any info is appreciated.

Wow. And you didn't even meet me!

K but seriously, if any of you guys have questions about CHM in general or life in GR in particular, please feel free to holler at me. If you PM me I will give you my email address or friend you on Facebook.

I can't believe we only have 2 weeks left in our spring semester! One online problem set, one pathology lab, and three final exams stand between us and another week of break. It's crazy how fast this year has flown by. I watched the sun set from the third floor of secchia tonight. I'm thankful to be in medical school every single day and I seriously love CHM... you guys will too!

Crossing my fingers for you 🙂

Thanks! Hopefully I hear back as quickly as you did. I thought the interview went well. My interviewer was a super, awesome, brilliantly cool guy ( who hopefully just read that prior to submitting my score 🙂 ) so tomorrow could be a really, really good day!

Congratulations! Now aren't you glad you took that 3rd interview?? 🙂

This is pretty awesome! Can not wait to get this started. See you all in the fall!

I just deferred my entrance 'till 2013 in order to pursue other interests first 🙂 Now there will be another spot for someone for this year! 🙂 God bless everyone on this thread! 🙂

Congrats to those accepted!

Has anyone that interviewed on 3/29 heard back yet? I interviewed that day, but haven't heard anything or had an update on my online status. Fingers still crossed tho!

Yes (Interviewed 3/29 - Accepted 4/24)

My interviewers were very nice and understanding. The school matched us (similar background, perhaps?) so we had a great connection, but time flied by so fast during my interviews. The students who lunched with us were great as well.

I think MSU is expert at admission selection 🙂. 85% to pass is a tough P/F system.

Actually, 75% is what is required to pass. 85% is just what they tell us to strive for. 🙂

Don't get discouraged if people from your interview day find out before you. Several applicants from my day were notified (acceptance, rejection, and waitlist) weeks before me. I didn't get the call until 10 (agonizing) weeks after interviewing. I'm sure there is a method to the committee's madness, but it's impervious to our speculation. Just try to stay positive and keep moving forward. Best of luck.

Withdrawing my acceptance today. Hope that comes as good news to those waitlisted!

So I'd love to live with another med student, but my boyfriend would also likely be moving in...so if you're ok with that arrangement and looking for GR housing, lemme know.

I withdrew my acceptance today. I really loved the school and wish I could've attended. As for those attending, congratulations. MSU is a great choice (especially if you're in state). I really loved everything about it. Best of luck, everyone!

Always 75% all through first two years. I just realized I misread your post. Not sure about other P/F schools but I would assume 65 and 75% is normal.

Does anyone know if there's a class of 2016 Facebook page yet?

Can anyone (current students or others) explain MSU's clerkships and costs?

http://www.finaid.msu.edu/read/budchm.pdf

I am confused by the timing outlined on this breakdown. Is CHM's M3 longer than other medical schools? In other words, can someone explain those TWO summers sessions that are flanking the regular Fall/Spring?

Although it's well-known that costs are excessive for out-of-state, this seems excessively highly (~143,000 all-cost total just for M3?)?

M3 starts at the end of June, and from an accounting perspective ends with the beginning of Fall M4. That would account for the two "summer" sessions. Once you get to M3, you don't get the traditional "summer" break, school becomes a full time job. There is no "regular Fall/Spring", because you're in the hospital full time, year round. What you see on that chart is just an accounting representation, and what's most important is the overall cost of all 4 years.

If your question was more geared towards "how many required clerkships are there and what are their timelines, because it seems like there are more at MSU than other schools", then this will probably help you answer this more:

http://chm.msu.edu/current/documents/2012-13BIIIClerkshipCalendarFinal5-3.12.pdf

The dates may be different amongst schools, but I'd be incredibly surprised if the content was not very similar. M3 is one of the most standardized parts of all of medical school.

I was wondering if anyone on the alternate list has heard anything back? Denials or acceptances? Any signs that is moving what so ever would be much appreciated!!

Alternate list anxiety has set in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm surprised no one has posted about alternate list movement yet.
