Another alternate list question if anyone knows.....are those that are on the alternate list now at MSU-CHM,do they stay on the alternate list till the start of the academic year in September? Or does the admissions send out denials to alternates as time passes leaving only a select few for candidacy?

Anyone who can answer or comment please do, help is much appreciated!!

from my understanding the answer is yes and yes....

I wonder if spots have opened up but people are just not posting about it. 😕

This lack of information is truly debilitating, isn't it? I've got no fingernails left from all the anxious biting, but I'm refusing to become any more neurotic....I'm gettin' on my bike and goin' for a ride! I'm going to enjoy what little control over my existence that I currently have.

From calling the office of admissions, they told me that the alternate list possibly will not move till after the 31st of May. I am not sure why the 31st as opposed to why not starting the 15th?

They also informed me that there has been no movement yet, so no one on the alternate has gotten in nor denied I believe. Hope this information puts your mind at ease till at least after the 31st of May.

Goodluck to us allll!!!

The 29th / 31st of May is when Canadian students have to make a final decision regarding medical schools admission. Usually this happens around the 15th of May.
As policy, it is possible many American medical schools that take in a considerable number of Canadian students are waiting.

Wise insight, canadanon. Dartmouth's waitlist hasn't moved at all either. The class is "reportedly full" and has had no movement, which is highly unusually considering years 08-11 all saw considerable movement on the 16th. Canadians make up a substantial portion of their admits and so both school are likely waiting for the end of May.

Thanks for the info!!

Its just funny to think that I have completed my AMCAS app for 2013 already and I have still yet to be completely finished with this years app cycle!!!!

In the alternate list club.

After speaking with Nikki, she said movement would begin after May 31. But also confirmed what has been posted earlier...that the class was "full". To me, I don't see how any movement can occur if the class is full.

Trends wise, if the past years had seen movement in May, it begs the question as to whether or not something in the adcom's policy changed this year in terms of their acceptance policies and how many they admit over the cycle (or how many students they admit).

Anyway, first time poster here. Kinda hard to stay optimistic, but I'm trying my best. So it's nice to read people's posts to remind me that I'm not alone going through this agony. If I could make it happen, we'd all get accepted off the WL. Best of luck to everyone!

Today is the 31st and no news!! Hopefully well hear something starting tomorrow.

Just got the rejection email. Good luck to the rest of you !!

Oh no.., sorry to hear that. 🙁 On the brightside, its better that you know now. Last year I was waitlisted for 6 months only to be rejected in the end (at another school).

Also received rejection email, this morning. Interviewed April 12. Good luck to those still waiting!

Just received notice of my rejection via email. I hope that it increases the odds of you alternate hopefuls who haven't received placement at another or school, or if MSUCHM is your dream school.

I received my rejection email this morning unfortunately 🙁 Now I really have to scramble and figure out a plan B. Looks like I'll have to schedule another MCAT because I feel like it was what really weighed me down altogether. It's my fault for not scheduling it earlier, but I didn't want to unless I really needed to. Now I got dragged along 4 excruciating months on the alternate list to be rejected. This really sucks. I'm starting to wonder how many spots are actually open. Looks like they gave out more acceptances than the previous years and perhaps most of those accepted had MSU as their top choice....Best of luck to everyone.

Just withdrew today. I had a GR placement. Good luck to everyone applying, I have lived in GR for 20+ years and it is an awesome place to be. If you go there make sure you hit up Little Mexico, Beltline Bar, Taco Boy, and Founders... I will miss the mexican food and beer most of all.

The admissions office will meet with you to go over your application if you have not submitted a new application.

Last year I was waitlisted at Wayne through August...and ultimately rejected (22 schools, 1 interview, 22 rejections...). It really sucks now, but DEFINITELY call the admissions office to talk with them. Wayne State's office went over my app. for over an hour with me, and they are the reason my app. was successful the second time around. The MSU offce is super nice, and I'm sure they will help you out a great deal! Make sure you make the next year a constructive one, I did a lot of volunteering at Helen DeVos and it definitely helped give me something interesting/relevant to talk about in my interview.

From watching the FB group it looks like there has been some wl movement. I guess those people either are not on sdn or are not posting about it. Good luck to those still waiting!

Just withdrew my acceptance. IS, EL placement. Good luck everyone still waiting.
