Hey Everyone! I interviewed at NYU last week (such an amazing school) but completely forgot to ask about when we might be hearing back on admissions decisions. Could anyone please elaborate? Thank you!

The website says the first round of acceptance letters are sent Dec 15.

Last year, there was 1 round of flat-out acceptances on Dec 15th, and we got a phone call that evening (that was the first time they had done that), followed by an email the next morning saying the letters were in the mail. Otherwise, there were no acceptances in the spring -- they filled out the class using the wait list. Don't know if it'll work the same way again this year.

did anyone recently hear back from the student hosting? D= i sent my email in about a week ago

i still havent heard back, and my interview is in about a week and a half. kind of worried about it

I sent an email yesterday and heard back today...I wonder if they just respond once a week?

Thanks so much for clarifying. Finger crossed for December 15th!!! 👍

In August, when I was really getting into my secondaries, my life exploded in the worst way. It's such an insane combination of terrible life things that when I went to our school's free therapy center for a session on stress relief and explained the current state of affairs in my life, the therapist looked like she was going to burst out into tears for me. I'm honestly proud of myself just for being a functional human being, nevermind a student, researcher, and med school applicant. This put a bit of a hold on finishing my secondaries, but I managed to get everything out by several weeks ago - except NYU. I left it for last because it was different than my other secondary questions and then schoolwork got in the way, and that always seemed more important simply because, well, it had a due date.
Is there any point in even submitting the secondary this late? Maybe if I explain my ridiculous, life-exploding situation?

Opinions?

Sorry to hear, but I am glad you are doing somewhat better now. Glancing at NYU seems to indicate their deadline is 12/1, so unless money is an issue, I'd say go ahead and submit. If you don't, there is a 0% chance of admission.

That sounds awful, and I'm glad things are more manageable for you now. I would still submit if I were you. A lot of people put off NYU because the secondaries are rough. I don't know whether it would be a good idea to mention your life-exploding situation in the secondary unless you're willing to talk about it in your interview. If it's going to be a "negative" on your application, maybe it's just best left ignored, even if it does help explain why it took you 2 months to turn the secondary around. I guess it really depends on the nature/extent of the situation. Good luck though!

For those that did an AM interview, what time, approximately, did it end?

Thank you very much!

If anyone here interviewing 10/25 PM session? I'm going back to JFK after and was just wondering whether anyone would like to split a cab fare? At this point, I'm not sure it's worth it to book a shared van for $23....but I would also prefer not to miss my flight.

Hi guys, did anyone interview here before or already? just to check, is it really only a 30 minute interview open file? that's fast...but I like that...

i've had the secondary for about a month and haven't turned it in yet. nothing serious going on, just working, volunteering, spending time with family, girlfriend, etc.

Interview invite!! My first! 🙂
Complete 9/2, invite on 9/27

Damn, did u have some awesome EC's?
Congrats. Manhattan is awesome, if you've never been there before.

Hey everyone, I applied for the MD/MPH dual degree program and was complete mid July. Has anyone who applied for any dual degree program gotten an interview invite?

Does anyone know how they respond to update letters?

I sent an in the area email, and they responded within the hour that it would be added to my file. My guess is that they will do the same with an update email. I don't think extra information can hurt your application. Hope this helps.

Congrats on your success this application cycle!

My interview lasted <25min but most people had a ~30 hour time slot. Yes they only last 30 minutes because often the same interviewer interviews 2 or 3 people at a time, in a row, and they schedule everyone on the half hour...

If you have a morning interview, your day will be done at 2pm, after the tour! If you have an afternoon interview, it depends on your time slot, but nobody left after 3:30pm on my interview date

any thoughts on how NYU views re-applicants?

i was wait listed here last year, and still haven't gotten an invite this year :|

I'm from NYC 🙂 I have two publications in public health and also researched in a group at their med school for two summers. Who knows.

Oh, haha, nice, so you know then. Guess you won't have to travel too far.

Pretty solid research there, that probably helped a lot.

I was wondering the same thing as well. No word yet, and I was complete late July.

Hey guys,

I just got the "your app is complete" email today, although I turned everything in mid to late September. Do you know how long after that before they give you a decision? Thanks!

I also sent an in the area email a while back and have gotten no response. I think I will call them on monday. I will be in NY by then 🙁. Worth a try tho

Hi everyone! I'm sorry if this has been asked before (I dont think so, but I just skimmed the thread over) but I had a couple of questions about transportation/airports...

Using southwest, my only options are Newark and La Guardia. I guess my first question is what airport is the easiest to travel to and from NYU? And I signed up for the morning interview, and would be done by 2pm. Is it possible to make a 5:00pm flight back to California by that time? How long would it take to get a ride to each of those airports from NYU. Ideally, I would like to use the Newark airport, just because flights are cheaper for Southwest from CA there. Would it be possible to make it to Newark by 4:00pm, or should I just stick to La Guardia?

Also, what is the best/cheapest way to get to/from the airports? Sorry, I really haven't been to the east coast, and NY public transportation is a mystery to me. Thanks for any help, though 🙂

Look into the NYCAirporter - it goes to both Newark and LaGuardia and departs from Grand Central Station, about a 5-10 minute cab ride from NYU Med

laguardia is a much better option, IMO. last time i flew into newark it took me 5 hours to get to the city by car...

I'm a bit biased since I am applying MD/PhD, but I couldn't imagine myself happier after an interview. Wonderful people and wonderful school!

If you are arriving mid day and traffic is light, a cab from LGA to NYU med is 15-20 minutes and pretty reasonable. I have paid under $20 before. (I have also paid $35+ during rush hour.)

For the bus from LGA, take the M60 bus to 125th and 2nd Avenue. Then take the M15 down to 34th and 2nd. Walk over one block to NYU. Takes about 1h 10m door to door and costs $2.25

The subway is kinda far from the university and I have had good experiences with the bus.

so when i get on the M60 bus, do i say that i will need to have a transfer so that I wont have to pay again when I get on the M15? or can i buy a ticket before i get on the bus? and are there maps available on the buses so i know which stop to get off at. i can never tell where i am on buses and when to get off in an unfamiliar city unless someone tells me to.

There are metrocard vending machines at LGA airport. Buy a card and put $4.50 on it. When you swipe to get on the bus it will charge you $2.25 When you swipe on the second bus it will say 1 XFR OK and not charge you again. Same thing for the way back.

You can buy a single ride ($2.25) metrocard but I BELIEVE these don't allow a free transfer. I haven't used one in years thought so I really can't remember.

on google maps, i also saw that i can take the M60, then Q, then 6. Cuts travel time by 20 min, not that I'm in a rush or anything. Is this an easier route and cost the same?

The walk from the 6 to NYU medical center is about 12-15 minutes minimum. If it's cold / rainy / you have a lot of bags it will be a miserable walk. It does cost the same though and if it's a nice day and you only have a backpack it's probably a better route.

You could theoretically take the M60 to the Q to the 6 to the M34 bus but this would cost $4.50 (only one free transfer allowed.) The buses are slower but I have done it with heavy suitcases as it is hardly any walking around, no stairs etc

Interview invite! Complete waaaay back in mid-July! Wow, thank you, NYU 🙂

+1! I was complete in September. This was the last secondary that I submitted because I wanted to perfect my essays. Looks like it paid off! 🙂

I heard that NYU hands out virtually all their acceptances on Dec 15. Would a Dec 13 interview be too late not to be basically a interview for a waitlist spot?

Is that right? :-/ So those of us without invites at this point are basically out?! 👎

Got the golden interview ticket today and was complete way back in July also. Top choice so I hope the whole deal about all the acceptances in December is not true.

When I logged onto their scheduling website today, there were 3 days open for next week (when I'll already be in NY). When I went back an hour later to choose a date, they were gone and the only available dates were mid-December. I hope that interviewing right before Dec 15th doesn't cut my chances! On their website it says that admissions are rolling beginning on Dec 15th, so who knows exactly what this means.

Think about this: Interview invites started around Sept. 16 and I'm pretty sure interviews started sometime in October. So, the only applicants that would be considered for the Dec 15th acceptances would be from those that interviewed in Oct. and Nov. That's only 2 of the 5 months NYU interviews (interviews are completed Jan. 31). So, while I'm sure many acceptances are given to this "select stellar" group, there's no way this will fill the entire class and especially after many of these people withdraw (which could go into spring of course).

II! Scary, considering the Dec 15 thingy...maybe it's a waitlist spot?

For NYU, I'll take a waitlist spot.

Hey guys, I just wanted to clarify the December 15th thing since it kind of scared me as well. I called this morning and talked with an admissions rep, who said that interviewing close to or after this date will not hurt your chances. They interview through January, and while the admissions process is rolling, they do not automatically put you on the wait list if you haven't heard by 12/15. Also because it is rolling, she said they continue sending out acceptances through December - so not getting an acceptance letter by 12/15 is okay.

I was complete 9/26 and received an invite 10/25 via email, will be interviewing a few days after 12/15 (which is why I called!). Very relieved after I made the phone call this morning!
