I had a quick question. On the application status page, I have a AMCAS submitted and a secondary received status. Are we also supposed to have an application complete status?

Also, I just set up my account management page. Is this required for the application to be complete?

Thanks for the help!

According to their website:

Complete Application File - consists of your AMCAS application, the Ohio State secondary application, valid MCAT scores, and at least two academic reference letters. We do not notify you when your application is complete nor does your application status change to "complete".

Oops, I may have started some confusion about this. I never had "application complete" as my status before the II, it just said AMCAS submitted and secondary received like yours does. I just assumed that meant my application was complete.

No worries. Thanks for the clarification

What's everybody's stats who's gotten an interview so far? OSU is my top choice and I'm still waiting on my interview invite 😡

Has anyone tried getting a student to host you while there for interviews? I e-mailed the address they gave us, but I have not received a response for a whole week. I might try e-mailing again.

Same here..I emailed them last Wednesday and haven't received a response.

Wa wa wee wa, I actually wrote 600 words exactly on the first essay 😱

Is it weird if I talk about the same topic for both essays (altruism / diversity), but in different ways?

No, but you might want to use a different experience so they learn more about the awesomeness of your past. What's weird is that your screen-name reminds me of an ISO mounting tool I used way back when. DAEMON-Tools.

I used the same experience but it was also from my military background so there are like many experiences within it to talk about...

I don't think it should be an issue if you use the same thing, but like LeoGer said, it might be advantageous to use separate things so they can learn about multiple activities of yours, especially if it can already be inferred from your diversity essay that the activity was altruistic. This was the case with mine.

For my altruism essay, I ended up writing about something that wasn't even an organized activity and wasn't mentioned on my AMCAS, but something that I thought was pretty cool and unique. Don't know if it was a great essay, but heck, I got an interview so my secondary couldn't have been all that bad overall.

I think uniqueness is a big thing. If you can make it seem like you've done something or have some experience that most others haven't, they'll like it. And the more activities you write about, the better chance you give yourself of catching their eye. Just my two cents.

I used the same experience too. It was much narrower than a military background, but it fit both categories and it's very personally important to me. Seemed to work out OK.

I'm guessing you have great numbers and that is what caught their eye. OSU is trying to become one of the big boys.

That's how I got my name! For forums where I don't want myself to become too easily identified (i.e., for admissions), I use this. I was blankly staring at my desktop trying to figure out a random username and saw the DAEMON-Tools program. I think one forum early on required a number and the date was the 14th (from staring at the toolbar), and the number has stuck along ever since.

On a more relevant note, I used a different topic after all and just submitted! OOS applicant but I was really impressed with the school when I saw a presentation from one of the adcoms a couple years ago. :xf: for an interview!

That made my day.

Hmm, it seems like our interview invites came pretty quickly relative to other schools. I wonder whether this was an auto-interview or an actual sit-down-and-read

Auto-invite? Do you mean like having a computer decide who to invite? I doubt they do anything like that, especially with so few interview spots. Interviewing requires extensive resources - both time and money. It's in their own interest to thoroughy review apps before (and after) extending interviews. Also, I think it's unlikely they would require 2 very long essays if they weren't planning to read them.

That was my personal experience from last year. I got an interview request the day after my application was complete. Their turnaround is incredibly fast.

in other news, SDN makes me incredibly nervous... OSU YUNOlove me yet?

no auto-interview, they read your file!

Didn't want to make you nervous. Just to say that they're very, very efficient. They respond fast with interviews. They make acceptance decisions on the day of the interview, and let you know a week later. Just a really smooth operation.

Any new invites recently? I'm still waiting... Have any rejections gone out?

Any update on those student hosts for interviews? I am interviewin Mon 9/12 and could really use any info on it...

Eeeaaassy, we haven't even started class up again, those kinds of things will be taken care of in a few weeks. I know it's not uncommon to not know where you're staying before a week or two in advance, but you'll get a place no problem.

Oh cool I just was about to reserve a room when I thought about it. So you would recommend holding off on that?

ya you can wait, we start 8/15th, and couple weeks after that the student hosting will be set up...hopefully (September interview is early). Were you going to reserve a hotel room like 6 weeks in advance? lol

is there a status page? Still no interview for me...

yay! interview!! I can't believe they call everyone--I think that's so incredibly nice of them to do. I missed the call, but thank GOD I changed my voicemail greeting from the joke-y one I had before. (Hello, I'm sorry I can't come to the phone right now, but I'm in a very important meeting with the President...) Just in case this information is helpful to anyone, I submitted 7/21 and got the e-mail + call today. Anyways, GOOD LUCK EVERYONE, this process is such a ROLLER COASTER, but I know we're all gonna make it through!!!

Interview invite 8/5/11. Congrats to others and good luck to waiters - I know I was unnerved watching interview invites fire around me like missiles, and it's hard not to wig out a bit. It will be ok though, it is still early, so keep calm! Easy to say and hard to do, I know :luck:

sure, np. nothing extraordinary: 35S/3.97. I think it MAY have been the secondary essays that helped me. Out of all the secondary essays I've had to write (and am still writing grrrr), I most enjoyed responding to theirs, and I think I did a decent job. But that is just speculation, of course.

LOL. nothing extraoridinary! Way to be modest

I have to agree about their secondary, especially the altruism essay. I liked the prompt and felt like it was one I enjoyed writing and gave a little more insight into myself, unlike the usual essays that have the same old prompts.

only on SDN is this nothing extraordinary 🙂

congrats!

Nice. Just speculating here as well, but it seems like they are only giving out interviews to 35+ people at this point.

Nope. I received an interview invite yesterday with a <35, <3.8, and OOS. Strong ECs, rec letters, and I feel like I did a good job with the secondary essays. Good luck to everyone!

That's good news. When were you complete?

Lol last cycle they didn't call me when I got an interview invite, they gave me an online status update and an email....

For those wondering, Bill Roth (based on his post history) is of Hispanic origin with stats 34Q, 3.68 GPA, and 3.64 BCPM.

LOL this is some private investigator action! Are you sure your pursuing the right career?

I submitted my secondary, but it doesn't indicate that on my status page. If this normal?

Hey guys I just got the e-mail saying my secondary was received... it was a little confusing though on where to check my status. It says to visit the college of medicine website to gain status information, but I don't see any links on that page that talk about status. I then got my account set up to get access to the Application Center, but when I dig down into the status of my application there, it refers me to the medstar web page.... so I go there and try "applicant log in" but no combination of aamc id/passwords I have set up with them seem to let me log in.

I have no idea why this is so confusing for me 🙂 Can someone tell me what page to go to in order to see your status?

Thanks 🙂
