The post-interview wait is the worst part of the entire process...Yes, worse than the MCAT.

I'd have to disagree. With some, the wait can be very long but I didn't get random dreams about getting accepted or not like I got about my scores being reported in the days leading up to the MCAT release. The fact that you don't know an exact date makes it easier to just go about your day I feel like.

I got an interview invite earlier today as well, so they are still sending invites. I have to call to set up this interview, but since I had to work, I didn't get the chance, so I'll do it Monday.

I got an invite today but I am across the country and have a seat at another program, does anyone know how full this class is? I am trying to decide whether to spend the time and money to interview here.

Hey. Hope this isn't getting back to you too late. Stony Brook accepts students right up until the end. They told us that if you have been offered an interview you have a 50/50 chance of getting in whether it is by being accepted directly or accepted off of the waitlist. If you can get out cheap enough then I would say go for it. It's a good school and after a year you can qualify for instate tuition.

But do read between the lines. I took that as meaning "there aren't many outright acceptances left, but you'll have a shot from the wait list." But anyway, it should depend more on your personal situation/desire to go to Stony Brook.

You have a shot of getting in if you go, none if you don't (but maybe you have other options).

They told us they don't keep a running track of acceptance offers and that offers for acceptance are made right up until the end. If you've made it to the interview stage you have a 50/50 shot basically. Also, something like 20% of the incoming class is accepted from the waitlist.

anyone heard back post interview recently???

interviewed 2/7, and now i'm getting antsy in the pantsy lollll

they told us about 6 weeks. so that would put my decision date at 3/20.......

but this thread has been earilly quiet in regards to decisions... maybe a "batch" are coming out soon ha.

and now i guess i simply play "the waiting game" lol.

II a few days ago...was pondering whether to go or not when they called to ask about it. I withdrew this morning hopefully one of you get it!

Is there a way to check your status online?

Hey I've been lurking on this thread for a while--interviewed last week of January and still waiting to hear back. On last year's thread though, not a single person after late Feb posted that they were accepted outright, and only people who interviewed late were put on the high-priority waitlist. That would mean they already filled their class at this point, despite what they told us during interview day. 🙁

Anyone with inside info know if this is true? Or am I just being neurotic?

I don't have inside info but I totally follow your logic. Stony seems to be the most desired suny. I'm not gonna be shy in saying that that is my impression. So they are going to have a lot of people holding their acceptance.

There are two things to add though - if it really is true that last year they accepted 50% of interviewees, but 20% of the class came in from the wait list.... You know, follow the numbers. That means everyone held their acceptance til may 15 then a ton of people dropped off. Also.... I remember from the 2009 2010 thread that the message in the high priority email was "your total score was good enough for an acceptance, but.... We have too many people holding acceptances. " and then they made it all the way through the high priority list and into the regular list. Also keep in mind that if stony's goal is really not to overraccept early on, they are going to have to use the waitlist more....

if its nothing excessive (just a carry-on bag) then bring it with you and you can just leave it in the conference room where you'll be hanging out

Take into account their class size though. 20% of the waitlist is only about 20 people.

that's assuming that everyone from the waitlist that was offered a spot decided to attend stony brook

Yeah, but it give you a rough idea of how many turn down an acceptance though.

Some data from 2010:

Total enrollment: Interviewed 667
accepted 330
enrolled 124

In-State: I 500
A 237
E 95

OOState I 167
A 93
E 29

Woman I 315
A 163
E 56

Minortity I 264
A 90
E 55

Puts the acceptance rate at just over 7%. Someone above said 2010 was the year they moved into the regular waitlist though so I don't know if that would factor in here.

The data will be skewed from the average this year, most likely due to

1.) Upstate's Probation status.
You'll probably see a few more In-state people take acceptances than in prior years (even 5-10 people is a very significant number when considering waitlist acceptances).

2.) A larger number of applicants this year, while retaining a ~50% acceptance rate

----> Hopefully they'll give chances to the waitlist, but we'll be very lucky if that figure reaches 20%.

But even if they do, how large is the waitlist? I've heard figures as large as 200 applicants.

Wait, I am a bit confused.

We are hearing that 20% of the class came from the waitlist, but how much of that figure is from the high priority waitlist (The list the put "accepted" people who interviewed late)? Before they even get to the regular waitlist, don't they have to accept Everyone off the HP waitlist first?

Is there a high priority waitlist this year?

I think there was a general consensus that the list ONLY starts in April.
Which means that it's probably a reservoir for applicants they mean to accept, but just don't have the seats for.

The feeling I've been getting is that only late interviewers get on this HPWL...any current students/former SBU applicants that can affirm or deny this? Or anyone who has spoken to admissions?

Interviewed 2/14 and accepted on 2/29. I interviewed with the dean so I figured that is why the decision was so prompt. Good luck everyone, if you are interviewed you already have a 50+% shot!

all of this chit chattin has jogged my memory.

one of my friends interviewed at stony april 2010, on the last day of interviews, and received an outright acceptance.

now, for all i know, maybe he was the only person from his interview group to get an outright acceptance.

but STILL. i guess it's possible.

You must have really impressed him!

I interviewed with him 1/31 and have yet to hear.

Hey everyone,

I am accepted and am almost certain to commit to here over others. Wanted someones FB name so I can get a group going for us. Can someone email me to get one started and we can get one going for housing. I have a current friend there and they mainly do housing, lots of decent houses.

I was interviewed in October/November and received an acceptance in like 2 weeks from the date. Very fast response. There promptness pushed me to accept and commit there over others.

Love the feeling of being wanted, had far to many schools give me the opposite feeling.

anyone make a facebook group yet?
