This is the link to an entirely unofficial class of 2016 facebook group for accepted students. You can request to join and I will add you.

Since no current students are part of the group at this time it will be limited in its ability to help answer any questions you may have about the school but hopefully will let you meet some of your future class mates.

Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed in the group are in no way the views or opinions of the stony brook, the hospital, its staff, and/or it's students.

I know Stony Brook says they're open to updates post-interview, but does anyone know if they confirm when they receive your letter and update your file? I send them an update a while ago but they never responded. 🙁

I sent a post-interview thank you and letter of interest and received an email confirmation the same day. You can call and confirm if you want to. I'm sure the admissions office won't mind if you call, they really are wonderful!

They say to bring a passport sized photo to the interview but my printer is not super high quality, I printed on glossy paper but does anyone think it needs to be a high quality photo?

As long as you can see it's you I think you'll be fine. The photo is just to put a face to the paperwork. (at least that's what I think)

Well, most of us during applications season had professional photoshoots done. The dean said he takes every applicant's submitted picture and ranks them by sexiness. Then that factor is multiplied to your entire applicant score--giving a rough weight of about an MCAT and a half.

Or it could be for identification purposes and to jog their memory of who you are/were, especially if you're being discussed weeks after your actual interview.

I am 6 weeks post interview and called the admissions office this afternoon. They said the committee has my file but no decision has been made yet and they will let me know when it is returned to them. They said I will have a response by months end at the latest.

Just hoping I really don't have to wait that long and that the news is good!!!

ahh maybe they fell behind....

I'm a little over 6 weeks and haven't heard a peep.

well IIIII'm not getting my hopes on hearing back this week :/

but it doesn't seem like anyone on here has heard back recently, which makes me think that maybe they missed an adcom meeting or two :/

idk. we'll have to see.

I believe the same will happen to me soon. I called today, and they said I should be receiving a letter in the mail soon. I asked if IIs ever come solely through snail mail. She said no. lol

Really sorry to hear that and hope you have an acceptance somewhere else. Was this pre or post interview? If post, when did you interview?

Thank you... i hope so too. This was a pre-interview rejection

Hey everyone,
I remember on interview day they mentioned that historically a high percentage of the matriculating class at Stony held/holds acceptances to other medical schools. I was wondering you guys can shed some light on how you arrived at your decision on the thread I made here: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=900497

Thanks guys! 😀

I interviewed on February 9th and am still waiting on a decision. I called today and they said they had hoped to have all the decisions done by the end of March but that they're a bit behind and may be another week or two.

Was told the same thing today. They also said that they had to extend their interviews and are still interviewing for another week. Looks like there were more qualified candidates then they expected.

GL to everyone like us still waiting!

So maybe they are waiting until everyone is interviewed and evaluated until they send out any more decisions??? That's kinda what I am inferring from that ...

The High Priority Waitlist placements should be given out soon!!!~~

😱

Has anyone heard what we should be doing about our financial stuff? I submitted Fasfa but haven't done anything else.

I haven't heard anything, but I was getting impatient so I looked online and they put up the 2012-2013 financial aid forms so I just filled them out and sent them in about a week ago.

Good to know. Thanks.

does anyone know if Stony Brook is switching to a P/F or H/P/F system for next yr?

They're deciding between the two now. The more important point, although it's not as relevant to first years, is that there's not a curve in the preclinical years. There's no point competing.

hey, who/where did you send these financial aid forms to? You're referring to the ones on http://medicine.stonybrookmedicine.edu/som/financialaid#programs right?
this one http://medicine.stonybrookmedicine....iles/2012-13_FA_Institutional_Application.pdf
and this one http://medicine.stonybrookmedicine.edu/system/files/Credit policy statement-signature.doc
and I sent them to the address on the forms:
Stony Brook University School of Medicine
Office of Student Affairs
HSC Level 4, Room 147
Stony Brook, NY 11794

Could any current students please comment on how important or useful the stony brook revisited program and the preorientation programs are?

I'm already set on attending here, but live across the country so would prefer to attend these if they are crucial.

Thanks!

since you've already decided you can safely skip revisited. you should try your best to make it to preorientation. everyone there (except the one or two who get off a waitlist elsewhere) will be attending so it's a good chance to meet your classmates early, meet potential roommates and start looking for housing.

I didn't get invited to an interview yet and they are interviewing up to mid April I think. Is it safe to assume that I got rejected?

is it just me? or did the admissions office redirect all phone calls to voicemail today??

So did ANYONE hear back post-interview this week??? obviously I didn't lol.

This week makes 10 weeks since my interview. I haven't heard anything. I've been talking to other people that interviewed around the same time as me and they haven't heard anything either. Hopefully they get back to us this week.

+1
will be 10 weeks tomorrow.
Spoke to the office today, they said there is at least 1 more day of interviews left, but, they hope to have decisions real soon.
