Anyone know when more pre-match offers will be made?

Per this time last year, they sent out about 100 pre-matches on or around December 22. I have no idea how relevant that is to this year, but... :luck:

Is there any A&M med student on here who is or know anyone who is doing the 2 years in College Station and 2 years in Dallas?

If there is, was this option your first choice? Can you guys give me a bit of info/experience?

I understand we will rank the tracks but does anyone know how likely it is for us to get our first preference?

On my interview day they told everyone that they'll be sending out less this year than last year in order to avoid the overfilling problem they had last year. They're still letting in the same amount, but told us to be patient cause it'll be a slower process. So - here's to waiting patiently!! 🙂

Hello,

I am not doing that particular track but I know of several people that are. Last year, there were only 25 spots for that particular track. I am not entirely sure how they based their decision on how to select those 25 students. I had friends who were chosen that did not have strong ties to the Dallas area or have family that lives there and then some who did have strong ties/family in the area. You have the opportunity to write a justification for your track and submit it with your rankings. For those that were chosen for this track, I am sure they ranked it number one. Hopefully more spots will open up by the time clinical years roll around. I know this isn't an exact answer but hope it helps!

Thank you!!!

Is there anyone going to the College Station's second look on the 5th?

Does anyone know if they will be sending out any additional prematches?

Do they give scholarships for students who do well in classes like utmb does?

R-r-r-rejectedddd

😕 Wait, how did you know? I thought Texas schools don't send out rejection letter. Also, only prematch seems to be over, there is still match and rolling admission after that.

Rejection email, bud.

would that be for those that did not get an interview telling them that interviews are over and they therefore cannot possibly get in to that school?

Yup I got one too. Oh well. I probably would have declined an interview at this point even if they offered since I've been accepted to a school I would for sure rank higher than it.

Wonder what they didn't like... I felt like my A&M secondary was my best one.

Ah I said it seems to be over. I don't know about A&M but someone posted in UTSW threat that the last prematch was going to send out last Friday or into this week.

OMG my head is going to burst!

FYI to all~ 🙂

December 20, 2011

Dear Applicant,

The Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine has concluded its interview season and completed its review of applicants for the Entering Year 2012 Class. I regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you a place at our institution or on our wait-list this year. However, we encourage you to reapply to our program again for the upcoming Entering Year 2013 cycle.

Lol rejected

That really surprises me. Guess you never can be too sure in this process. Morz, I still think you will get into SA. Plus you're accepted somewhere already so you're good as gravy 🙂

No word. I'd like to think that's good news if no one else has received any....Maybe a Christmas' present tomorrow? =P
Wishful thinking...

I am all for wishful thinking! I am glued to my phone and email

Hey guys, is it worth going to the second look weekend? It sounds like just another round of tours, and I'm all toured-out.

It's been awfully quiet in here... anyone think they'll send out pre-match offers this week before new years??

Sigh, I am wondering the same thing but I am going anyways. I interviewed at Temple and so hopefully seeing CS will help me make decisions easier, not only between campuses for A&M but also between A&M and other schools. To me, it is not so much about the school campus but more about checking out the city and the lives there.

For people that are going, we don't need to wear a suit, do we?

That was my hope. But I believe that they are out until Jan 2. 🙁

Yeah I already checked- they're out till next week,so no more pre-offers unless they have an automated service right? *sigh* but am not holding my breath 😛

First of all, happy new year! I hope that 2012 sees us all adding "Dr." to our names 🙂 Second, does anyone have any thoughts on what the odds are like at this point for those of us who are still "interviewed?" I'm counting my blessings as far as not being rejected!!

I'll be there too.

Called them, business casual. I think I'll just wear my interview outfit minus the suit jacket...

I was going to call today about that but looks like someone beat me to it. Thanks for the info! See you guys there.

Does anyone remember the average Step I score from A&M? I tried to look through the given packet on the interview day but couldn't find it.

I don't have my packet on me but I believe it was 224.

Hey this is for SDN since I know a lot of y'all will be interested. Just got back from A&M second look in temple and Leila Diaz, the dean of admissions there, gave us a pretty detailed breakdown of what is going on in admissions right now. These numbers and statements were all explicitly told to us by admissions people.

This year they interviewed fewer people, only in the low 600's (forgot exact number)

So far they have given out about 230 pre-matches.

of those about 35- 40 have been declined, and there are either 193 or 194 (forgot which) spots filled as of now. That is there are 193 people holding their A&M pre-match right now.

Of these people the average GPA is mid 3.7 (3.74?? forgot exact number) and average MCAT is 30

She told us the percent of under-represented minorities but I completely forgot this stat.

They are only matching for 6 or 7 spots on feb 1st.

They expect the number of filled spots to go down after feb 1st since some people will match to other schools that they ranked higher. That being said they have no way of predicting what will happen.

If anyone else who was there remembers these numbers better please respond. These stats are obviously being "telephoned" once by me and could have a mistake somewhere

Hope this helps

I think I may be somewhat confused. Of the 194 or so still holding prematch offers, many of these will match to other schools on Feb. 1. This will automatically remove their prematch from A&M. Wouldn't they be able to match much more than the 6 or 7 on that day? What I understand from the previous post is that these extra matches would not occur until a later date. Why is that? I thought that was the point of the match day, so everyone moves up simultaneously as others are matched to higher schools. I do not understand why there would be a delay.

This was what I understood the case to be. At Bryan today Filo told us 193 (which would confirm Laxian) offers were currently being held. But yeah, it's unlikely that all of those applicants will rank them highest, or some will potentially match into schools they rank higher. The schools submit their own rank lists after we do, which then fills the class most likely.

Thanks so much for the update! It feels good to be in the loop a little 🙂

Right so I see what you are saying, but this is assuming that when one person matches to another school the computer automatically drops them from a&m and adds another person one more spot down the list. I don't think this "automatic dropping and adding" actually happens. Instead the wait list after the match assumes this function. How I understand this to work is that A&M will submit a ranked list for that day. This ranked list will include a certain point where a&m will accept (match) everyone above that point. Where this point will be is anyone's guess though...

But they probably will be pretty conservative this year and rely on the waitlist? Considering what happened last year and all. I really don't know hah and this entire post is mostly speculative.
I haven't actually ever asked an admission committee person about the mechanics of match day.

I thought they only had 173 seats available if I'm not mistaken. Maybr that's why they will only match 6 or 7

Don't think so. I was under the impression the 194 was including the 30 deferred from last year
