Congrats to everyone with acceptances! I am on the "priority" alternate list and am wondering a bit about housing. I understand that the building attached to the school fills up very quickly. Are there other locations where groups of first year students tend to live? Thanks!!!

Hey good luck! I'm still waiting to hear back from my interview.

There are actually a lot of off campus housing options for students besides the apartment building attached to the school. There are some really nice townhouses that are right across the street from the apartments. They're nice but the weird thing is the ghetto is also across the street from the townhouses. Also, there is another apartment building called University Centre which I believe is also meant to house Rutgers, NJIT, and of course UMDNJ students as well. It's a bit farther away from campus but definitely within walking distance. If you would prefer to not live in Newark there are apartment buildings near the PATH station in Jersey City. The PATH ride, light rail ride, and walking to school takes about 40-50 minutes from Jersey City though so I would only do that as a last resort. Good luck!

Just got waitlisted. Guess I won't make it in because there's a "priority waitlist" right?

I got waitlisted too 🙁. I don't think I'm on the priority waitlist either. Sigh.. Guess it's back to square one then.

What does the "priority waitlist" email say differently than the regular? I thought endlessj say they announced one waitlist this year...

That's what I thought too. My e-mail didn't say anything about a priority waitlist or a waitlist but just an "alternate list."

just a general question, but if i've been accepted to NJMS but am on the waitlist at another school, should i accept at NJMS for now? then if i get off the waitlist at the other school, do i just lose my deposit? or how exactly does this process work...thanks!

Absolutely this. Don't ever be without a seat once you get an acceptance. Take this acceptance and lose the deposit if you get off the wait list after May 15th.

In other words - you are now going to NJMS, get everything done for them and then switch to the new school if necessary.

Will be giving up my interview - Hope it goes to someone who really needs it. Good luck to those waiting!

They are still doing the priority waitlist this year. I received a letter with this notice:

The Admissions Committee has reviewed your application but unfortunately cannot offer you an acceptance at this time. You have been placed on our “priority” alternate list. This means that you will be among the first group of students reviewed by the admissions committee should seats become available in the entering class.

So does that mean the people (like me) on the regular waitlist are screwed?

Interesting. I interviewed 2/16 as well and I have not heard anything yet.

Hi everyone,

I was checking out their site this morning because I hadn't heard anything from them at all, expect a "thank you" email after I sent an update letter in the end of January.

I saw this:
All completed applications remain under active consideration for an interview until the beginning of March. By mid-March, all applicants receive either an invitation to interview or a letter of regret.

I didn't get an email or letter about rejection/interview. Could it be possible I just missed it in the mail? Should I call? It'd just be awkward and miserable hearing a rejection through the phone...

+1

I just wanted to email out to those of you who are feverishly checking Student Doctor forums everyday while they wait to hear- I was on the priority waitlist 2 years ago for NJMS (which was my first choice since I am an NJ resident), and I was eventually accepted in JULY! The waitlist DOES move, so don't completely give up hope. Also, for anyone wondering or debating, I am VERY happy with my decision to come to NJMS (finishing up second year now) and I am glad that I chose to come here over my other options!!!

+2. trying to completely close my cycle. I can assume schools are done, but it would have been nice to hear SOMETHING for my application fee... 😡

I called them, they said they're closing the interview season and will be mailing out letters of regret.

I got an email later in the day.

Looks like I'm re-applying..

did they say it was totally over, or that it was ending?
I know its late but I am waiting to hear anything also . ..

I called admissions yesterday and I was told that there has not been any movement on any waitlist as of yet and wont be until June

Does anyone know how much movement usually occurs on NJMS priority waitlist? I wish we knew what our rank was

As a current surgical resident at NJMS, and class of 2010, I can give you some insight into housing, sorta. Mine was the first year of housing, and I actually lived there all 4 years. Overpriced, not quite worth it, but very, very convenient.

Other popular living areas are society hill, which is a bunch of town houses that are directly in the area of the medical school. Wide variety in size and what people are renting them for, but a decent place walking distance.

Some live in Hoboken. A bit of a travel (15-20 minutes sans traffic) but it does have a bit more elegance living there than Newark... not my cup of tea, but a very viable option. Other towns in the area include Montclair, Bloomfield, Belleville (where I currently live), Clifton, Jersey City, West Orange. All have good and bad spots, and all have people living in it.

There was one year (class of 2011 or 2012, can't remember which) where not a single person came off the waiting list. Other years, its double digits... I did work study in the admissions office and remember having to mail out plenty of letters. So, what i am trying to say is that there is a chance!

Does anybody know if the proposed merger happens, how would NJMS be affected?thanks!

If I don't get into medical school, I'll see some of you cool kids in MGM c:

A limited amount of kids in the Medical Scholars Master's program are allowed to enroll, yes.

No idea, i wrote them an email but no response....i think they are automatically supposed to mail you back your deposit according to AAMC traffic rules...i'll probs give them a call.

The HP Alternate letter indicated there would be no movement till June, but that won't stop me from checking this thread on a daily basis! Good luck everyone!

Is there a HP Alternate besides the Priority Alternate? I was told by the admissions staff there isnt any HP

WOW that scared me a bit. Seeing as I'm on the Priority Alternate List, what little hope I had was thrashed when I saw HIGH PRIORITY. Phew. Just a false alarm. Any news from my Priority Alternate list friends?

:luck::luck::luck:
